Download or read book Small Dojo Big Profits written by Mike Massie and published by . This book was released on 2013-07-15 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over a decade, Small Dojo Big Profits has guided martial arts instructors through the risky yet highly rewarding process of starting and running a highly successful and profitable martial art school. Eschewing the conventional wisdom that says you must have a huge school with 300 or more students to be financially successful, the author instead shows you how to take on less risk while working smarter and not harder by running a lean, mean, efficient martial arts studio operation. Author Mike Massie has started three successful martial arts studios from scratch, and has the distinction of opening his first studio with no start-up capital, zero credit, and in a town where he was a complete stranger. Yet, he was able to go from teaching in part-time locations to running his own full-time studio in under a year, and he achieved this while staying in profit from month one. The process he followed is the same one this book is based upon, and this updated version of Small Dojo Big Profits also draws on the author's experience in starting and growing two more successful studios during the recent mortgage crisis and economic recession. A common sense martial arts school start-up and business operations manual, this completely updated version of the classic martial arts business guide is perfect for anyone who wants to maintain their integrity while building a successful martial art school. If you're looking for the best source of complete information for starting, launching, growing, and running a martial art school from scratch, this is it.
Download or read book Five Years One Kata written by Bill Burgar and published by Martial Arts Pub Limited. This book was released on 2003 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This remarkable book gives the reader a unique insight into an amazing five-year study of a single kata (Gojushiho). It shows the depth that is waiting to be discovered by the close study of kata, covering an incredible range of subjects including: * imagery * the psychology of confrontation * the common acts of physical violence * vital points and how to exploit them * the methodology for the break-down and understanding of kata * the applications of the kata * the principles of karate and how to apply them * the applications (in detail) for each of the movements of Gojushiho * the major variations of each application * objective measurements regarding their practicality * how to link the applications together The author also explains how to undertake your own study using a single kata of your choice, and how to build a training regime based on the kata. If you have ever wondered what kata is really all about then this book is for you. When karate was a secret art, practiced in the back yards of Okinawa by a few dedicated masters and their disciples, it was usual to train in a single kata for many years. A master of karate would know just one, two or possibly three kata. Through the deep study of those few kata the master karateka would possess a complete self-defence system, he would be well versed in the underlying principles of karate and he would have a memory aid which would map out his complete training regime. Over the last century the practice of a single kata has disappeared from karate practice. The deep understanding of a few kata has been replaced by the superficial understanding of many. This book shows you in great detail how to recover that understanding and how to put kata back at the heart of karate. What leaders in the field have to say about the book: "Without question this book adds to the body of knowledge in the study of karate" - Rick Clark

This book was released on 2023-10-01 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Instructor Supplemental - GŌJŪ-RYŪ KARATEDŌ 剛柔流空手道 Desk Reference 参考書: Tō-te Dō Gaisetsu 唐手道概說 (Ryūkyū Kenpō Karatedō Enkaku Gaiyō 琉球拳法唐手道沿革概要) Karatedō History Overview by Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順 稿 - A Modern Translation Tō-te Dō Gaisetsu 唐手道概説 - by Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順 稿 Ryūkyū Kenpō Karatedō Enkaku Gaiyō 琉球拳法唐手道沿革概要 GŌJŪ-RYŪ KARATEDŌ 剛柔流空手道 Desk Reference 参考書 We are fortunate to have resources that allow us to investigate historic manuscripts while assisting various agencies to catalog their documents. We examine these historic manuscripts to hear stories lost or untold. The 1934 edition of “Tō-te Dō Gaisetsu 唐手道概説” by Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順 稿, known also as “Ryūkyū Kenpō Karatedō Enkaku Gaiyō 琉球拳法唐手道沿革概要” is rare considering the majority of the recipients lost their personal belongings during and after the 2nd World War. The document contains a valuable glimpse into the thoughts and writings of Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順 prior to the battle for Okinawa. The variations from the 1934 edition to the 1936 edition are minor however readers should note that the style (Gōjū-Ryū Karate-dō 剛柔流空手道) was still in one of many well-planned stages of development and under closer examination such becomes clear with both the minor revision in history and the technical syllabus as indicated by Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順. Due to the age and deterioration of the original artifact, we turned to the supplementary published modern print versions of his (Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順) publication to verify the Kanji inscribed from the publications by: · 1976 - Nagamine Shoshin 長嶺将真, 史実と伝統を守る沖縄の空手道 (Okinawan Karate-Dō that Preserves Historical Facts and Traditions). (The life and drama of the man Meitoku). In addition, the term Tō-te 唐手 (Tō-de) has been modernized to “Karate” as agreed upon by members of the Dai Nippon Butokukai Okinawa Chapter 大日本武徳会 沖縄県支部審議員Okinawa division, then chaired by Miyagi Chōjun宮城長順. Readers should understand that the term “Tō-te 唐手 (Tō-de)” was merely a popular vernacular of the era and was not intended to sugguest that Okinawa martial arts had originated in China. This was also collaborated by Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順 in the October 1936 “Karatedō Zaidan-kai 空手道座談会 (Karate symposium),” and further supported by Okinawa prefectural researchers. China based martial arts were however excellent resources for training and research due to the country’s vast population and border proximity which encompassed a multitude of various styles from which to draw inspiration. And finally, the text and context of this manuscript by Miyagi Chōjun 宮城長順 is dated. In other words, people (in Okinawa and Japan) simply do not speak in the manner as written in the essay any longer. In our modern times, much of the terminology then used is now depreciated or, the rhythm of speech is considered ancient. For this reason, we have included italicized text for the clarification of framework.

The narrative follows “Big” John through his 22-year career as a Los Angeles police officer, where he taught recruits arrest and control procedures as well as survival tactics, then his 15-year career as MMA’s premier official in the chain-linked cage. Following a one-year hiatus as a color commentator and on-camera analyst for MMA and boxing events, he returned to MMA refereeing in 2008. In his own words, "Big" John relates his insider’s perspective from the midst of many of the sport’s greatest moments—from Tito Ortiz–Ken Shamrock I at UFC 40 in 2002 to Randy Couture–Tim Sylvia at UFC 68 in March of 2007—along with his account of the birth of the sport in America, its evolution, and MMA’s ongoing struggles for acceptance.

This is pure romantic fantasy and an absolutely entertaining novel from start to finish." —Romantic Times (4½ stars Top Pick!) With no skills besides scoring the perfect stilettos, maxing out her credit card, and partying till dawn, Marisol Winston is about to get a lesson in the real world—and in love... After years of perfecting her party-girl image, Marisol wants to open an L.A.-based deluxe boutique. Unfortunately her father refuses to foot the bill until she agrees to do a stint in shopaholic rehab. Surely she can survive a few weeks without Dior, right? But part of Marisol's anti-retail remedy entails getting a real job as a nanny/housekeeper in Podunkville, Arizona. Suddenly she’s knee-deep in PB&Js and dirty laundry, surprised to find herself just a teensy bit smitten with her three sticky-fingered charges—and their deliciously distracting Dad (even if he does wear discount denim). Quarterback Cash Connelly has one last shot at being re-signed to the pros, which means he needs a nanny who runs a tight ship. Marisol seems to know way more about Tiffany’s than T-ball, and she has more miniskirted sex appeal than is strictly necessary for laundering jockey shorts. But his kids seem positively smitten. Well, who wouldn't love a woman who serves up ice cream for breakfast? Now if only Cash can find a way to stick to his strict hands-off-the-nanny policy... "Once again, Plumley shows her fine flair for comedy as Marisol learns that there is life beyond Rodeo Drive, and the Connelly triplets discover that they can’t scare away every nanny.
