Book Psychoanalysis and Projective Methods in Personality Assessment

Download or read book Psychoanalysis and Projective Methods in Personality Assessment written by Benoît Verdon and published by Hogrefe Publishing GmbH. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book synthesizes the work of leading thinkers of the French School of psychoanalytical projective methods in personality assessment. The French School is a direct successor to Rorschach's and Murray's original approaches using the Rorschach Test and the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT). Underlying this method is the idea of the coexistence of conscious and unconscious processes, of opposite instinctual pairs, and of agents that are ruled by conflicts (Freud). Transitional activity is seen as part of an intermediate space, a mediator space, and bearer of messages between the subject and the clinician (Winnicott). This book brings to life the important contributions of the French School, firstly exploring its theories and methods and then its clinical applications. Detailed case studies from different stages of life examine the psychopathology of everyday life with its severe and disabling states of suffering. Contemporary advances in research and clinical work are presented, and the groundbreaking early work of Nina Rausch de Traubenberg, Vica Shentoub, and Rosine Debray are also critically reread and discussed. Clinical tools adapted for clinicians and researchers in the appendices include a useful schema to facilitate the interpretation of the Rorschach and TAT together, a list of latent solicitations for the TAT, and the current version of the TAT Scoring Grid. This book is essential reading for clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, researchers, and students interested in applying psychoanalytical theory to projective methods.

Book excerpt: Law and Mental Health: International Perspectives, Volume 3 considers the jurisprudence and models of legislation concerning public mental health that suit the particular requirements of different cultural and geographical regions. This book is composed of five chapters and begins with the major accomplishment both for Dutch legal psychiatry and for the English language audience, followed by a survey of the civil dimensions of the forensic system. The next chapter tackles the primary variables in assessing terrorism, including the social, political, religious, and economic factors, which, coupled with highly complex variables of psychological predisposition, can give some guarded inroads with respect to the limits of the knowledge in predicting and reacting to terrorist incidents. These topics are followed by discussions on the techniques for assessment designed for the differentiated legal questions in criminal, civil, and juvenile and family law. A chapter focuses on the measured assessments of the parameters of the professional knowledge about the nature of dangerous behavior based on clinical and research investigation. The final chapter contains a precise summary of the research that is to be done on a spectrum of techniques for assessing malingering. Mental health workers, forensic experts, and policy makers will find this book invaluable.

Book Suicidal behavior and depression among perinatal women Research Prevention Intervention and Treatment

Download or read book Suicidal behavior and depression among perinatal women Research Prevention Intervention and Treatment written by Yari Gvion and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-10-01 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suicide is a multifaceted phenomenon, with numerous contributing and facilitating factors and variables. Despite motherhood serving as a potential protective factor against suicidal tendencies, a notable prevalence of suicidality persists among pregnant and postpartum women, making suicide a leading cause of death among women with postpartum depression (PDD). Furthermore, numerous women experience emotional challenges during pregnancy, which often persist into the postpartum phase, thus making them also susceptible to depression and suicidality. This Research Topic is dedicated to studies exploring various approaches to suicidal behavior, depression as well as of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI)among pregnant and postpartum women. The purpose of this Research Topic is to elucidate comprehensive analyses of extant knowledge and empirical data about models, theories, and specific dimensions and variables that may help us increase the understanding of suicidal phenomena among perinatal women (pregnant and postpartum). The specific goal is to identify characteristics that may be used to develop prevention and intervention methods among this at-risk population.
