Book Les glises d initiative africaine

Download or read book Les glises d initiative africaine written by Hannes Wiher and published by Langham Publishing. This book was released on 2019-12-31 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Essays on Philosophy and Religious Studies

Download or read book Essays on Philosophy and Religious Studies written by LIT Verlag and published by LIT Verlag. This book was released on 2022-11-21 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analecta Bruxellensia has been since 1996 the annual review of the Protestant Faculties of Theology and Religious Studies (FUTP (French) and FPTR (Dutch)) in Brussels. Analecta 21 is a varied number. Three themes are developed covering exegetical, historical, sociological, theological and philosophical fields. The first explores hermeneutics related to the understanding and assimilation of the biblical text; the second addresses the weight of ideology in the construction of narratives invoked in the representation of the Other; the third pursues this theme of encounter and otherness in various historical perspectives. From a queer exegesis of the narrative of Acts 8 to the question of the extent of Christ's salvation in the hypothesis of inhabited worlds in science fiction literature, the eclecticism of these academic contributions, as well as their relevance to contemporary debates, promise the reader multiple changes of scenery and genuinely new thinking. This issue also includes a previously unpublished contribution by Paul Ricœur, a restitution of a three-speaker conference given in January 2000 on the theme of justice between ethics and law.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For six decades, North American Mennonites have walked alongside African Independent Churches (AICs) as they have navigated their faith journey between the ancient traditions of the ancestors and the newer claims of Christ upon their lives. The story of these relationships is a fascinating pilgrimage in partnership, offering hope for a mutuality that slips the knots of colonialism and testifies to the unifying power of the Holy Spirit. Beginning with a historical overview by missiologist Wilbert R. Shenk, this volume contains the reflections of over fifty AIC and Mennonite colleagues concerning the significance and impact of this long-standing partnership. Their stories illustrate the disparate threads of a sixty-year experiment in shared endeavor, while offering insight into the history of the church and missions in Africa. This book is a powerful account of mutual learning, forgiveness, and growth. It is an excellent resource for lovers of story, students of post-colonialism and indigenous Christianity, and all those concerned with building relationships across cultural and racial divides.

Book In Search of Foundations for African Catholicism

Download or read book In Search of Foundations for African Catholicism written by Mika Vähäkangas and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-05-18 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study deals with the interaction between neo-Thomism and African traditional thinking in Charles Nyamiti's theological methodology. The approach of the study is groundbreaking as it is the first monograph published on the theological method of any African theologian. The question about the position and relevance of Western philosophical-theological systems in a non-Western context also has a wider relevance concerning contextual theologies in general. Nyamiti's theology is a germane and a fruitful choice for the study of this issue because of his programmatic attempt to build a coherent African Roman Catholic theological system. His theology is also well-known for its strong African flavor in elaborating theological questions within the framework of orthodox Roman Catholic doctrine.

Book glises et sant dans le Tiers Monde Hier et aujourd hui

Download or read book glises et sant dans le Tiers Monde Hier et aujourd hui written by Jean Pirotte and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-05-18 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fifteen papers presented here examine three centuries of close, if sometimes ambiguous, links between Christian mission and medicine. The authors, who include theologians, historians, sociologists, physicians and representatives of major international health-care organisations, address themselves to such questions as: How is one to assess the results of past missionary health-care effort? How are modern-day Christian organisations to cope with the burden of institutions set up in the past? What links should the Churches maintain with official medical organisations? What position should the Churches take on the 'faith v. healing' debate begun by certain religious groups? And how is one to lay the groundwork of a theology of health and healing? The complexity of the issues outlined here can - alas - provide no easy answers.

Book Religion as a Political Resource

Download or read book Religion as a Political Resource written by Miriam Schader and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-02 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Miriam Schader shows that migrants can use religion as a resource for political involvement in their (new) country of residence – but under certain circumstances only. The author analyses the role religious networks and symbols play for the politicization and participation of Muslim and Christian migrants from sub-Saharan Africa in Berlin and Paris. Against the widely held belief that Islam is a ’political religion’ in itself, this study demonstrates that Christian migrants draw on their religion for political action more easily than their Muslim counterparts. It also highlights that it is not religion in general which helps migrants get politically active, but particular forms of religious organisations and particular theological elements.

Book Religion Crossing Boundaries

Download or read book Religion Crossing Boundaries written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2010-08-18 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Across the past twenty years major change has taken place in the structure of global society with respect to the nature of migration. The predominant pattern since at least the eighteenth century had been for peoples to move to and settle in Western countries permanently, with relatively little substantive interchange with their former homelands, hence adopting the modes of articulation characteristic of their new societies (a process expressed with respect to the USA, for example, as "Americanization"). This pattern has now changed, and there is considerable interaction between homeland and migrant peoples. One of the places this has become especially important is in religious exchanges. While some negative effects of this process may grab headlines, there have also been extensive positive interactions, not least among African peoples, especially with respect to pentecostal and allied religious movements. The chapters in this book illustrate the variety of these exchanges. Contributors include: Wale Adebanwi, Edlyne Anugwom, J. Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, Marleen de Witte, Laura Grillo, Susan M. Kilonzo, Samuel Krinsky, Géraldine Mossière, Philomena Njeri Mwaura, Joel Noret, Ebenezer Obadare, Damaris S. Parsitau, Mei-Mei Sanford, Linda van de Kamp, and Rijk van Dijk.
