Book Savoir Faire Savoir Vivre

Download or read book Savoir Faire Savoir Vivre written by Christopher McCreery and published by Dundurn. This book was released on 2014-12-19 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Commemorating the Rideau Club’s 150th anniversary, this richly illustrated book celebrates the history of Ottawa’s premier private club since its founding in 1865. Co-founded by Sir John A. Macdonald and Sir George-Étienne Cartier, the history of Ottawa’s premier private club — the Rideau Club — is intertwined in so many ways with the development of Canada over the past 150 years. Commissioned for the Club’s sesquicentennial, this work by Canadian historian Christopher McCreery weaves together the story of the club’s evolution since 1865 with vignettes of how certain members made and continue to make it a very special place. Richly illustrated, this bilingual book provides a highly accessible account of the Club’s enduring place in the nation’s capital. From the early days of Ottawa as a rough lumber town to its present status as a centre of technological innovation, the pioneering spirit of the Club’s membership is exemplified by the prominent role its members have played in Canada’s national and international policy making, and in the arts, science, business, and commerce.

Book Secrets d un p re insaisissable

Download or read book Secrets d un p re insaisissable written by Caroll Lesage and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2023-07-05 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Churchill in North America 1929

Download or read book Churchill in North America 1929 written by Bradley P. Tolppanen and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-05-08 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Churchill took a three-month vacation to North America in the summer and fall of 1929, a little known event in his long career. In the company of his son Randolph, his brother Jack and his nephew Johnny, he toured Canada and the United States. Notable are Churchill's meetings with political, business, newspaper and entertainment figures (President Hoover, Prime Minister Mackenzie King, Bernard Baruch, William Randolph Hearst, Marion Davies and Charlie Chaplin) as well as his visits to such landmarks as the Grand Canyon, Lake Louise, Niagara Falls and Yosemite. The Churchills also visited a lumber camp, slaughterhouse and steel factory, went fishing on the Pacific Ocean and inspected the battlefields in Quebec and Virginia. They evaded Prohibition and gambled on the stock market (about to crash). It was on this trip that Churchill gained an understanding of the two countries firsthand and deepened his feelings for Canada and the United States.
