But no mention was ever made in that work of the Lihyan (Arabic transliteration for "The People of Lehi") civilization and the remarkable possibilities found in its Arabian ruins. In addition to the Hilton's original research, they have discovered volumes of new evidence and new possibilities. The findings in this book may just be the sign saying, "I, Lehi, was here." It is possible that Lehi and Nephi were actually great missionaries; that they converted thousands as hinted at in D&C 33:8-10. This new evidence suggests that Arabian converts of Nephi and Levi grew in number and influence and prospered (as all civilizations of The Book of Mormon were promised) over a period of 1000 years until they actually ruled Arabia for an additional 300 years. This work may be the most remarkable evidence currently available that Levi and Nephi actually existed and may be the only research to date to actually pinpoint Book of Mormon locations with any degree of accuracy. It is astounding that the city Nephi referred to as Nahum actually exists today as a city of ancient origins. Here within our very grasp may be the first physical and historical evidence that Lehi and Nephi, lived, breathed, struggled and taught the gospel as marvelous and influential prophets of The Book of Mormon.

Book excerpt: Part I of this book gives an abridgment of the record of the prophet Lehi, which was the first book engraved upon the gold plates of the Book of Mormon. The original Book of Lehi, which was translated by Joseph Smith in 1828, was stolen and became lost from the Book of Mormon. Since that time they have simply been referred to as the lost 116 manuscript pages. This plain abridgment of the record of Lehi answers several questions about the origin of the Book of Mormon. For instance, it explains the connection with Egypt, revealing that Lehi was a Jew, or rather an Israelite, from the land of Egypt. It reveals that Labans plates of brass were actually Lehis plates of brass that were made by his people in the land of Egypt. As well, it reveals that the land of their inheritance is simply their house and farm, which was near Hebron in the land of Judea. Since this is from the personal account of the record of Lehi, he describes the nature and function of the Liahona, the making and composition of the metal plates, and their building the ship of Nephi at Bountiful. Lehi further explains something about the characters of their language which were inscribed upon the metal plates. The characters had been developed by his forefathers who were Israelites living in the land of Egypt, which were unique to them, and they cannot be proved to the world. Part II of this book describes a simple and realistic model for the unknown geography of the Book of Mormon. After all these years the actual geographic setting for the locations found in the Book of Mormon has not been understood. If the account in the book is true, then there is a real geography to be found, as well. The author believes that he has discovered a simple and realistic answer to the question of the Book of Mormon geography. The author has a testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, and believes that those were real lands, and cities, and events that were so faithfully recorded therein. He wishes to make those places and events more realistic to people when they read and study the Book of Mormon.

Talmage wrote his book with the intention that it be used as a teaching tool within the LDS Church's Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association and the Young Women's Mutual Improvement Association. The book is "in many ways quite derivative" of B. H. Roberts's 1893 Outlines of Ecclesiastical History. Both writers borrowed heavily from the writings of Protestant scholars who argued that Roman Catholicism had apostatized from true Christianity. Talmage's book has been described as "the most recognizable and noted work on the topic" of Latter-day Saint views of the Great Apostasy.

Book excerpt: The African Bible is the record of the Abyssinian prophets who came to Africa from Jerusalem in around 600 BC. The Sabeans (Nephites) and the Agazians (Lamanites) will become the ancestors of the African people. The prophecies of the African Bible have been entirely fulfilled upon Africans, Jews and Gentiles. The Agazians or black Africans were prophesied to dwindle in unbelief as was apparent in the history of the continent. Also, black Africans were prophesied to be scourged, slaved and scattered by the Gentiles, and that was the experience of Africans. The African Bible, the Book of Mormon, was prophesied to be hidden from the African people, until God's own time, and will first be discovered by the Gentiles. Hence, the prophet Joseph Smith translated them into English from the Sabean script and the Mormon Church had them for almost two centuries without knowing the authentic owners of the records. The records were then to be revealed to the African people by one of their descendants, and that is what I am doing now. I have convincingly proven the Book of Mormon to be the record of the African ancestors and is therefore an African Bible. Hence, Africans are the remnants of the house of Israel and descendants of Manasseh.
