Book excerpt: This special edition of the Lectures on Faith from Zion’s Camp Books is formatted for convenience on an eReader, with more than 100 internal links to scriptures and citations. We hope it will give you a great reading experience! The Lectures on Faith were originally prepared as materials for the School of the Prophets in Kirtland, Ohio in 1834 and were included in the Doctrine and Covenants from 1835 to 1921. Although the Lectures on Faith have never been accepted as revelation by the body of the church (and so were removed from the Doctrine and Covenants in 1921), they contain important doctrinal insights that can help anyone seeking to learn more about faith and come closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. President Joseph Fielding Smith noted, “I suppose that the rising generation knows little about the Lectures on Faith. . . . In my own judgment, these Lectures are of great value and should be studied. . . . I consider them to be of extreme value in the study of the gospel of Jesus Christ.” (Joseph Fielding Smith, Seek Ye Earnestly. Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 1970.) Elder Bruce R. McConkie of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has stated the lectures contain “some of the best lesson material ever prepared on the Godhead; on the character, perfections, and attributes of God; on faith, miracles, and sacrifice. They can be studied with great profit by all gospel scholars.” (Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine. Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1966.)

Book Lectures in Systematic Theology

Download or read book Lectures in Systematic Theology written by Greg Nichols and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-12 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "So the Lord said to Moses, "I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name." And he said, "Please, show me Your glory."" (Exodus 33:17-18) Moses hungered to see God's glory. He pleaded: "Show me, I pray you, your glory." This should be our prayer as we study the doctrine of God. Reverent hunger to see God's glory should motivate us. We must hunger to see the glory of his existence, knowledge, nature, names, and decree. We must hunger to know God and thirst after the knowledge of God. Further, the Lord promised to give Moses the desire of his heart: "I will make all my good-ness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of Jehovah before you." God also fulfilled this promise. When we come to God with reverent hunger, he will fill our hearts with the knowledge of himself. He will not disappoint us. He will surely show us his glory, and satisfy us with the display of his Name. ...We should not approach the doctrine of God with a critical spirit, or as a philosophical quest with a hunger for speculation. If any course in systematic theology should evoke spiritual hunger, this one should. The doctrine of God should never be dull, or dry, or speculative, or philosophical. It should pulse with spiritual life and hunger. Let's approach this subject with Moses' disposition. (Excerpt from the book)

Book A Theology of Biblical Counseling

Download or read book A Theology of Biblical Counseling written by Heath Lambert and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2016-04-05 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the beginning of the biblical counseling movement in 1970, biblical counselors have argued that counseling is a ministry of the Word, just like preaching or missions. As a ministry, counseling must be defined according to sound biblical theology rather than secular principles of psychology. For over four decades, biblical theology has been at the core of the biblical counseling movement. Leaders in biblical counseling have emphasized a commitment to teaching doctrine in their counseling courses out of the conviction that good theology leads to good counseling…and bad theology leads to bad counseling. A Theology of Biblical Counseling is a landmark new book that covers the history of the biblical counseling movement, the core convictions that underlie sound counseling, and practical wisdom for counseling today. Dr. Heath Lambert shows how biblical counseling is rooted in the Scriptures while illustrating the real challenges counselors face today through true stories from the counseling room. A substantive textbook written in accessible language, it is an ideal resource for use in training biblical counselors at colleges, seminaries, and training institutes. In each chapter, doctrine comes to life in real ministry to real people, dramatically demonstrating how theology intersects with the lives of actual counselees.

Book Lectures in Old Testament Theology

Download or read book Lectures in Old Testament Theology written by Dennis F. Kinlaw and published by Francis Asbury Press. This book was released on 2011-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Is there such a thing as an Old Testament theology? Or does the Old Testament simply reflect a number of competing theologies?"" In these lectures, first delivered in 1993, Dennis F. Kinlaw shows that there is indeed a single theology that rings through the pages of the Old Testament. That theology is centered in the unchanging nature of the transcendent Yahweh. Kinlaw does not slight the diversities of the text, but uses those diversities to underline the amazing consistency to be found in the treatment of Yahweh and in the understanding of the world arising from that perspective. "Although it has been seventeen years since these lectures were first given, Kinlaw's penetrating grasp of, and love for, the text and its message makes the content as fresh as tomorrow. Anyone looking for a broad introduction to Old Testament theology will benefit from reading this book, but so will those who desire nothing more than to have their love for Yahweh rekindled."
