Download or read book Insurgency in India s Northeast written by Jugdep S. Chima and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-09-01 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Insurgency in India’s Northeast provides a systematic analysis of every major secessionist group and insurgency in the region within a unified and original explanatory framework, focusing primarily on the postcolonial period. This book presents a parsimonious analytic narrative involving a rich sequential account of the historical evolution of Mizo, Naga, Meitei, and "ethnic Assamese" identities from precolonial to colonial to postcolonial times. Avoiding essentialist or primordialist arguments, the chapters in the book demonstrate how ethnic/(sub)national identities are dynamic and malleable phenomenon, not immutable natural givens. In particular, it argues that the postcolonial Indian state has attempted to integrate these ethnic/sub-state national groups into the Indian Union through a combination of democratic accommodation/consociationalism and hegemonic/violent control, strategically designed to encapsulate their evolving (sub) national identities into the overarching state-sponsored Indian nationality. Through this book, readers will gain a rich understanding of the dynamics of ethnicity/ nationality and the nation/state-building process in postcolonial India. It will be of interest to researchers in the fields of Asian studies, ethnicity, nationalism, separatism, security studies, border studies, and international relations.

Download or read book THE THREE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF POLITICS written by Guna M. Okram and published by Kindle Direct Publishing. This book was released on 2019-10-26 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each behavioural science discipline focuses on distinct aspects of behaviour resulting in partial, conflicting, and incompatible models across the behavioural sciences. Interdisciplinary approaches seem to confuse rather than simplify the problem. Thus, we need to explore the integrating principles, which incorporate the primary area of interest from several behavioural science disciplines to resolve the crisis, achieve the explanatory goal and increase theoretical predictability. Power is pivotal in society and is key to understanding the inner dynamics of history and evolutionary behaviour. The concept of power is perhaps the most fundamental in the field of political science. I define; politics is the natural act of giving response to an external stimulus. The response is in the form of power; it is the stimulus to other individuals making a behavioural chain reaction. I generalized three interrelated principles of politics. Those principles describe how politics works, while simultaneously unifying the vertically and horizontally fragmented behavioural sciences from the power perspective, which is compatible with the evolutionary process.

Download or read book The Eastern Gate written by Sudeep Chakravarti and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-01-06 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traders, Pushers, Soldiers, Spies. A pivot for India’s Act-East policy. The gateway to a future of immense possibilities from hydrocarbons to regional trade over land and water that could create a new Silk Route. A bulwark against China. A cradle of climate change dynamics and migration. ‘Northeast’ India, the appellation with which India’s far-east is known, is all this and more. Alongside hope and aspiration, it is also home to immense ethnic and communal tension, and a decades-old Naga conflict and the high-profile peace process that involves four gateway states—Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam—and several million people. It’s among the most militarized zones in the world. It’s a playground of corruption and engineered violence. Only real peace, and calm in both Myanmar and Bangladesh, will unlock this Eastern gate. A keen observer and frequent chronicler of the region, Sudeep Chakravarti has for several years offered exclusive insights into the Machiavellian—Chanakyan—world of the Naga and other conflicts and various attempts to resolve these. He now melds the skills of a journalist, analyst, historian and ethnographer to offer inside stories and a ringside view to the tortuous, no-holds-barred attempts at resolving conflict. Employing a ‘dispatches’ style of storytelling, and interviews with rebel leaders, politicians, bureaucrats, policymakers, security specialists and operatives, gunrunners, ‘narcos’, peace negotiators and community leaders, Chakravarti’s narrative provides a definitive guide to the transition from war to peace, even as he keeps a firm gaze on the future. The Eastern Gate is a tour de force that captures this story of our times.

Download or read book The Northeast Question written by Pradip Phanjoubam and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-14 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the idea, psychology and political geography of Northeast India as forged by two interrelated but autonomous meta-narratives. First, the politics of conflict inherent in, and therefore predetermined by physical geography, and second, the larger geopolitics that was unfolding during the colonial period. Unravelling the history behind the turmoil engulfing Northeast India, the study contends that certain geographies — most pertinently fertile river valleys and surrounding mountains which feed the rivers — are integral to nature and any effort to disrupt this cohesion will result in conflict. It comprehensively traces the geopolitics of the region since colonial era — in particular the Great Game; the politics that went into the making of the McMahon Line, the Radcliffe Line and the Pemberton Line; the region’s relations with its international neighbours (China, Bhutan, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Nepal); as well as the issue of many formerly non-state-bearing populations awakening to the reality of the modern state. Lucid and analytical, this book will be of great interest to scholars and researchers of Northeast India, modern Indian history, international relations, defence and strategic studies, and political science.
