Book Leaving Unemployment for Self Employment

Download or read book Leaving Unemployment for Self Employment written by Frank Reize and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents an analysis of the transition from unemployment to self-employment and its subsidisation with the so-called "bridging allowance" in Germany. On the basis of econometric models, the determinants and the success of self-employment among former unemployed are estimated at the individual as well as at the firm level. By comparing different groups of the formerly unemployed, it becomes evident that self-employment is one successful route out of unemployment, as self-employment proves to be more stable than paid-employment. Therefore, the bridging allowance reaches its aim of regaining stable employment for the unemployed. However, this programme fails to create additional employment in the newly founded firms.

Book Unemployment to Self Employment and Beyond

Download or read book Unemployment to Self Employment and Beyond written by Umasuthan Kaloo PhD and published by Partridge Publishing Singapore. This book was released on 2016-09-14 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is aimed at individuals who are either denied jobs of their choice or find that working for others is not for them. One option open to all of them is self-employment. This becomes workable only if the dormant entrepreneurism present in all nonentrepreneurs can be jolted out of its slumber to set them on a path leading to the ranks of entrepreneurs. This is the path of the reluctant entrepreneur. The path will be strewn with obstacles, and success is decided by whether the travelers make the right choices during each of the three major stages of their journey. The three major stages are start, growth, and exit. The first and most important success factor is to start right. The second success factor is to continuously adjust to a changing market. The third key success factor is to decide how the travelers wish to exitwhether to cash out and retire rich or to leave a legacy to be remembered by. This book presents the many options available for each major stage and discusses the key factors to focus on for success. A number of carefully selected case studies are included to show why some travelers are successful.

Book Leaving Unemployment for Self Employment a Discrete Duration Analysis of Determinants and Stability of Self Employment Among Former Unemployed

Download or read book Leaving Unemployment for Self Employment a Discrete Duration Analysis of Determinants and Stability of Self Employment Among Former Unemployed written by Frank Reize and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper investigates the determinants and the success of self-employment among former unemployed. Self-employment has become an important re-employment opportunity during the last decade due to increasing subsidies. The econometric analysis is carried out using discrete hazard rate models on 14 waves of the German Socio- Economic Panel, covering the period from 1983 to 1996. I do not find any effects of unemployment duration on the transition from unemployment to selfemployment. Moreover, unemployed people entering self-employment have higher skills than the average of the unemployed population and self-employment seems to be more stable than paid-employment would have been because people face a lower risk of becoming unemployed again.

Book Jump starting Self employment

Download or read book Jump starting Self employment written by Rita Almeida and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2007 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One important concern of governments in developing countries is how to phase out large safety net programs. The authors evaluate the short-run effects of one possible exit strategy-programs that promote self-employment-in Argentina. They provide evidence that a small fraction of beneficiaries were attracted by this program. Overall, potential participants to self-employment are more likely to be female household heads and more educated beneficiaries relative to the average Jefes beneficiaries. Using nonexperimental methods, the authors show that participation in the program does affect the labor supply of participants, by reducing the probability of having an outside job, especially for males, and increasing the total number of hours worked. But the intervention fails to produce on average income gains to participating individuals and households in the short run. The fact that a small subset of former welfare beneficiaries are attracted to the program, coupled with the fact that only a subset of participants (younger and more educated beneficiaries, and with previous self-employment experience) benefited from participation has important implications for this intervention to represent a viable exit strategy from welfare.
