Book The Vicomte of Bragelonne Ten Years Later

Download or read book The Vicomte of Bragelonne Ten Years Later written by Alexandre Dumas and published by Lindhardt og Ringhof. This book was released on 2021-07-05 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Four Musketeers return; middle-aged and battle-weary, but always ready for a new adventure. The setting is France in the 1660s. There’s a new king on the throne, and D’Artagnan is not impressed. After 35 years of service, he resigns his position in the Musketeers. But the fates soon draw D’Artagnan back into the fold. Alongside his old comrades, Athos, Aramis and Porthos, he’ll play a crucial role in King Louis XIV’s transition from weak-willed adolescent to a man worthy of the title The Sun King. "The Vicomte of Bragelonne" is the first volume of Dumas’ "Ten Years Later". It continues "The Three Musketeers" saga in style, full of all the romance and swordplay you’ve come to expect. Alexandre Dumas (1802 - 1870) was a hugely popular 19th century French writer. Born of mixed French and Haitian heritage, Dumas first rose to prominence in Paris as a playwright, but later gained international fame with his historical fiction. Often co-authored with other writers, these stories wove together swashbuckling adventure, romance, and real events from France’s past. Among the best known are "The Three Musketeers", and its sequels "Twenty Years After", and "Le Vicomte de Bragelonne: Ten Years Later". Set across four decades, this trilogy follows the rise of the dashing D’Artagnan—from hot-headed soldier to trusted captain under Louis XIV. Dumas’ other novels include "The Count of Monte Cristo" and "The Black Tulip". His works have been adapted into more than 200 movies, including The Man in the Iron Mask starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Download or read book Between Two Kings written by Lawrence Ellsworth and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-07-06 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For years d’Artagnan shared his adventures with his three comrades—Athos, Porthos, and Aramis—but now, in Between Two Kings, the First Musketeer returns to the forefront. This is truly d’Artagnan’s novel, bringing to a dramatic climax the story that began when he first arrived in Paris thirty years earlier in The Three Musketeers. This brand-new translation of Between Two Kings immediately picks up the story and themes of Blood Royal, where d’Artagnan tries to thwart destiny by saving England’s Charles I; now, he will be instrumental in the restoration of his son, Charles II, the first of the two kings of the title. Disappointed in the irresolution of young Louis XIV, d’Artagnan takes a leave of absence from the King’s Musketeers and ventures to England with a bold plan to hoist Charles II onto his throne, a swashbuckling escapade in which he is unwittingly assisted by his old comrade Athos. D’Artagnan returns triumphant to France, where he is recalled to service by the second king, Louis XIV, who is now finally ready to take full advantage of the extraordinary talents of his officer of musketeers. This newly translated volume by Lawrence Ellsworth is the first volume of Alexandre Dumas’s mega-novel Le Vicomte de Bragelonne, the epic finale to the Musketeers Cycle, which will end with the justly-famous The Man in the Iron Mask. This marks the first significant new English translation of this series of novels in over a century.
