Book Hypnotic Approaches in Cancer and Palliative Care

Download or read book Hypnotic Approaches in Cancer and Palliative Care written by Sylvain Néron and published by PUQ. This book was released on 2014-02-14T00:00:00-05:00 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This patient-centered and case-based eBook is intended for health care professionals who use—or may decide to use—clinical hypnosis in their professional work with cancer patients. With a personalized and flexible navigation system stimulating learning, it provides direct access to patients’ experiences and to the comments and analyses of two specialists. Each case features an original full session video recording and a full transcript of the session of real patients experiencing hypnosis focused on self-regulation improvements, pain relief, palliation of symptoms, and hope enhancement in the face of advanced or terminal cancer illness. The reader is invited to use these recordings to examine and inform his/her own practice and is encouraged to do such examination in an active and alert learning state. He/she will find several ways of incorporating hypnotic modalities at several points of the illness trajectory and in different contexts of the treatment continuum. For example, hypnosis will be observed in settings such as busy oncology clinics and at bedside, as well as in the preparation and execution of medical and diagnostic procedures. Hypnotherapy addressing existential and spiritual issues will also be presented. This innovative eBook, by putting emphasis on clinical relevance, interactions, and skill acquisition through demonstration, provides a unique opportunity to identify hypnotic phenomena and to understand the necessary modifications of classical hypnotic strategies clinically relevant to illness progression and hospice care.

Download or read book Thinking in Public written by Celucien L. Joseph and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-04-25 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thinking in Public provides a probing and provocative meditation on the intellectual life and legacy of Jacques Roumain. As a work of intellectual history, the book investigates the intersections of religious ideas, secular humanism, and development within the framework of Roumain's public intellectualism and cultural criticism embodied in his prolific writings. The book provides a reconceptualization of Roumain's intellectual itineraries against the backdrop of two public spheres: a national public sphere (Haiti) and a transnational public sphere (the global world). Second, it remaps and reframes Roumain's intellectual circuits and his critical engagements within a wide range of intellectual traditions, cultural and political movements, and philosophical and religious systems. Third, the book argues that Roumain's perspective on religion, social development, and his critiques of religion in general and of institutionalized Christianity in particular were substantially influenced by a Marxist philosophy of history and secular humanist approach to faith and human progress. Finally, the book advances the idea that Roumain's concept of development is linked to the theories of democratic socialism, relational anthropology, distributive justice, and communitarianism. Ultimately, this work demonstrates that Roumain believed that only through effective human solidarity and collaboration can serious social transformation and real human emancipation take place.

Book The Medieval Chronicle V

Download or read book The Medieval Chronicle V written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are several reasons why the chronicle is particularly suited as the topic of a yearbook. In the first place there is its ubiquity: all over Europe and throughout the Middle Ages chronicles were written, both in Latin and in the vernacular, and not only in Europe but also in the countries neighbouring on it, like those of the Arabic world. Secondly, all chronicles raise such questions as by whom, for whom, or for what purpose were they written, how do they reconstruct the past, what determined the choice of verse or prose, or what kind of literary influences are discernable in them. Finally, many chronicles have been beautifully illuminated, and the relation between text and image leads to a wholly different set of questions. The yearbook The Medieval Chronicle aims to provide a representative survey of the on-going research in the field of chronicle studies, illustrated by examples from specific chronicles from a wide variety of countries, periods and cultural backgrounds. The Medieval Chronicle is published in cooperation with the Medieval Chronicle Society.

Book Reframing remembrance

    Book Details:
  • Author : Lisa Harper Campbell
  • Publisher : Manchester University Press
  • Release : 2021-11-09
  • ISBN : 1526154072
  • Pages : 114 pages

Download or read book Reframing remembrance written by Lisa Harper Campbell and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2021-11-09 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reframing remembrance examines films about the Nazi Occupation of France, charting how this period has been commemorated and how it has affected the articulation of French national identity. The book proposes that 1995 marked the beginning of a new approach to commemoration, reflected by socio-political acts, such as Jacques Chirac’s July 1995 Vél’ d’Hiv speech, and artistic acts, most notably films set during the Occupation. This is an approach that embraces critical engagement with history and its retelling. With relevance to countries beyond France and events far removed from the Second World War, Reframing remembrance highlights the need for ongoing, honest remembrance and self-reflection as cultural representations of history continue to shape contemporary views about nations’ identities and their global responsibilities.
