De ce fait, un jour ou l’autre, tous les pays d’Europe se trouveront en état de libre commerce. Doit-on, du côté occidental, s’attendre à une invasion de produits agricoles à bas prix qui viendraient déferler sur nos marchés et ruiner nos agriculteurs ? Ou, au contraire, peut-on espérer trouver des débouchés fructueux dans des pays où le niveau de vie ne peut que s’accroître ? C’est à ce genre de questions que cet ouvrage tente de répondre en se gardant d’un excès d’optimisme, autant que d’un surcroît de pessimisme. Il s’efforce de proposer des solutions adaptées à la nouvelle situation de l’Europe et cherche à prévoir ce que pourrait être l’avenir de notre continent. Une telle interrogation correspond aux préoccupations actuelles et a pour but d’alimenter le débat sur des questions dont il est inutile de souligner l’urgence.

Dans cet ouvrage, les auteurs analysent et cartographient une ruralité dont la polymorphie ne cesse de s'accuser. Cette entreprise est nécessaire, à un moment où se met en place une nouvelle politique de développement rural au niveau européen.

Focusing on the period from 1926 to 1936, Piotr Wandycz seeks to explain how and why these three nations, with so much at risk, neglected to act in concert. Wandycz is the author of a well-known study on the series of alliances constructed by France, Poland, and Czechoslovakia in the years following the Treaty of Versailles. In this current volume he picks up the story after the Locarno Pact (1925) and follows the progressive disintegration of the alliance system until the time of Hitler's remilitarization of the Rhineland. Through an examination of the political, military, and economic relations among France, Poland, and Czechoslovakia, the author provides valuable insights into an era that contained the seeds of the future war and the collapse of the historic European system.
