Book Modernizing Irrigation Management

Download or read book Modernizing Irrigation Management written by Daniel Renault and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2007 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication describes the MASSCOTE methodology, illustrated by several applications in Asia. MASSCOTE is a comprehensive methodology for analysing the modernization of canal operation. The aim is to enable experts to work together with users in determining improved processes for cost-effective service-oriented management. It is based on previous tools and approaches widely used in Asia by FAO in its modernization training programme (rapid appraisal procedures and benchmarking). From diagnosis through the formulation of operational units and the planning of a service (based on the vision agreed upon with the users), MASSCOTE entails a systematic, ten-step, mapping exercise. The accompanying CD-ROMs contain the full document in English, excerpts in French, a draft version in Arabic and Chinese, training presentations and material, and a number of documents and references on irrigation system operation and management [System requirements: PC with Intel Pentium(r) processor and Microsoft(r)Windows 95/98/200/Me/NT/XP; 256 MB of RAM; 50 MB of available hard-disk space; SuperVGA monitor; 256 colours at 1024x768; Adobe Acrobat(r) Reader (not included on CD-ROM)]

Book Transfer of Irrigation Management Services

Download or read book Transfer of Irrigation Management Services written by Douglas L. Vermillion and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 1999 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Irrigation management transfer (IMT) means the relocation of responsibility and authority for irrigation management from government agencies to non-governmental organizations, such as water user's associations. It is a widespread process that is taking place in more than 40 countries. These guidelines have been written to assist policy-makers, planners, technical experts, farmers' representatives and others involved in IMT programmes to design and implement an effective comprehensive and sustainable reform.

Book Performance Analysis of On demand Pressurized Irrigation Systems

Download or read book Performance Analysis of On demand Pressurized Irrigation Systems written by Nicola Lamaddalena and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the strong competition that is arising for water resources the modernisation of irrigation systems is becoming a critical issue. One of the alternatives to modernisation is the use of pressurised systems to replace part of the existing networks. This publication analyses the performance of pressurised irrigation systems operating on demand, and provides revised criteria for the design of such irrigation networks. For this purpose, new approaches and a computer program have been developed. The program has been tested in several field situations in the Mediterranean Basin and has demonstrated its usefulness not only by quickly identifying weak points in irrigation networks but also by identifying the power requirements of pumping stations needed to satisfy varying demand situations.

Book Control of Water Pollution from Agriculture

Download or read book Control of Water Pollution from Agriculture written by E. D. Ongley and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 1996 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agricultural operations can contribute to water quality deterioration through the release of several materials into water: sediments, pesticides, animal manures, fertilizers and other sources of inorganic and organic matter. This ''guidelines'' document on control and management of agricultural water pollution has the objectives of delineating the nature and consequences of agricultural impacts on water quality, and of providing a framework for practical measures to be undertaken by relevant professionals and decision-makers to control water pollution.

Book Materials for Subsurface Land Drainage Systems

Download or read book Materials for Subsurface Land Drainage Systems written by L. C. P. M. Stuyt and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reliable subsurface drainage systems for groundwater table and salinity control are needed to maintain or enhance the productivity of irrigated lands and to contribute to the rural development of lowlands in the humid tropic. This publication presents guidelines to assess the need for envelopes and for the selection of appropriate materials (i.e. pipes and envelopes) for the proper and lasting performance of subsurface drainage systems. In addition, it also contains guidelines for adequate installation and maintenance of drainage materials as well as the required specifications and standards of such materials, which may be used in tender documents for implementation of subsurface drainage works. Practical guidelines for the implementation of laboratory and field investigations to evaluate the performance of drainage materials have also been included.--Publisher's description.
