Book Le Corbusier Pierre Jeanneret

Download or read book Le Corbusier Pierre Jeanneret written by Jean-Pierre Duport and published by Birkhaüser. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book describes the story of Clarté, Le Corbusier's first apartment building, continuing the narrative into the 21st century. The steel skeleton building completed in Geneva in 1930/1932 is a prototype of the Moderne style and a precursor of the Unité d'Habitation. The building was neglected for many decades and not listed as a historic building until the 1990s. In 2007 the external envelope was repaired as the first step, followed by refurbishment of the interior, in which building preservation requirements were taken into account in an exemplary manner. The building log book by the architects and structural engineers is illustrated with numerous new and historic drawings and photographs, and has been supplemented with an account of the building's history. The renovated building is presented in large photographs.

Book excerpt: The villa known as Maison Blanche is one of Le Corbusier's early masterworks. He created this complete work of architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design art for his parents. At first glance it may seem to stand in the classicist tradition, but its details already divulge the beginnings of Le Corbusier's personal architectural language. After standing empty for years, the building was purchased by a specially formed association, which established an interdisciplinary commission to oversee its restoration by the architect Pierre Minder. As the house was freed from later changes and additions and the garden returned to its original condition, the young Le Corbusier's intellectual workshop gradually came into view. The practicability of these measures was carefully determined with a feasibility study conducted on the basis of reports and archival studies. Together with the discoveries made during construction, new color photographs, and the precise reconstruction plans, this material now serves as the basis for this magnificent monograph.

Book Towards a Public Space

Download or read book Towards a Public Space written by Marta Sequeira and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-22 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: **Selected in the top eight short-list for the Thought and Criticism category of the FAD Awards 2019** Le Corbusier is well-known for his architectural accomplishments, which have been extensively discussed in literature. Towards a Public Space instead offers a unique analysis of Le Corbusier’s contributions to urban planning. The public spaces in Le Corbusier’s plans are usually considered to break with the past and to have nothing whatsoever in common with the public spaces created before modernism. This view is fostered by both the innovative character of his proposals and by the proliferation in his manifestos of watchwords that mask any evocation of the past, like l’esprit nouveau ("new spirit") and l’architecture de demain ("architecture of tomorrow"). However, if we manage to rid ourselves of certain preconceived ideas, which underpin a somewhat less-than-objective idea of modernity, we find that Le Corbusier's public spaces not only didn't break with the historical past in any abrupt way but actually testified to the continuity of human creation over time. Aimed at academics and students in architecture, architectural history and urban planning, this book fills a gap in the systematic analysis of Le Corbusier’s city scale plans and, specifically, Corbusian public spaces following the Second World War.
