This book was released on 2017-07-21 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Layman's Faith, Doctrines, and Liturgy We are well aware that no system, long established and interwoven by habit and education into the fabric of opinion, and strengthened by pecuniary interests, can be suddenly altered. Our object, therefore, is not to put down what exists, but to induce inquiry and stimulate thought. In free England we may dissent from what is established, follow our own convictions, and discuss any question, and it is in this way we hope for some success. We are con vinced that in proportion to the acquisition of truth, and the practice of it, as respects religion, will be individual freedom and happiness. We have long been convinced that the only safe guide Christians have in religious matters is the Gospels, and that when our faith in the Divinity of Christ is firm, we can see in the words of our Lord the very truth of God, our understanding being en lightened by the Holy Spirit. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Layman's Religion He may supplement the spiritual dynamic of the preacher most effectively with his practical training and business experience. Too often the layman leaves all of the spiritual activities of the Church to the preacher. Is it not time to go back to first principles and to recognize the layman as a spiritual unit for whose express benefit the Church is organized? For the layman too is an individual and sustains an independent relation to the universe. He is a part of the great scheme of God; he looks out with infinite interest at the life he is living; he yearns for the spiritual consolations, if there be any, which religion has to offer. The layman, if he be intelligent, must have a philosophy of life, and if he be serious, a religion in which he anchors his faith. These chapters are not intended as complete discussions of the various topics, but as cross-sections of the reactions of a layman to religious problems. The widening interest of our thoughtful and sincere laymen in religious activities should be heartily welcomed by all who desire to see the Church grow in scope and influence. To assist in interpreting this modern lay movement in our churches, and to encourage it so far as possible, is the purpose of this book. Book A Layman s Faith

    Book Details:
  • Author : Peter Slot
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2013-01
  • ISBN : 9781781487976
  • Pages : 278 pages

Download or read book A Layman s Faith written by Peter Slot and published by . This book was released on 2013-01 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author is a retired Circuit Judge. He was born in 1932, was confirmed in 1950 and has been a communicant member of the Church of England since then. He began, as a layman, officiating at services in his Parish Church, St Michael's Betchworth in rural Surrey, in 1982 and has done so, and preached there and elsewhere, since that year. As a lawyer, he is used to asking questions, both of himself and of others - and, in his sermons, he often asks the difficult ones and tries to find answers for them. His listeners' most frequent comment after the service has been that he has truly given them something to think about, though he has often been warmly thanked and asked for copies of what he has said. Some of those, who have heard him regularly, have recently asked him to publish some of his sermons, so that they can read them again - and this book, which is written for them and for his grandchildren, is the result of that request. It was only when he had assembled the material for the book and read through it, that he realised that, in speaking as he had, he had truly set out what he believes to be the Christian Faith as it has been revealed to him.. This is why the book is called A Layman's Faith. It is his hope that those, who read the material in this book, will be encouraged and strengthened in their faith and the better enabled to answer, in their own hearts, the difficult questions about conduct and belief which our present times ask of us all.

Book Truth Or Tradition

  • Author : Bob Raymond

  • Release : 2017-01-12
  • ISBN : 9781512771213
  • Pages : 130 pages

Download or read book Truth Or Tradition written by Bob Raymond and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2017-01-12 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores and presents a fresh perspective on many often misunderstood doctrines of the Christian faith. This book answers many questions: Does God change his mind? Are all my prayers really answered? Is God sovereign, or do I have free will? Did God choose me, or did I choose Him? Is this the best world God could create? Having served as Bob Raymond?s pastor for the last few years, I have had an opportunity to spend time with him discussing the Word of God. I have found him to be a man that doesn?t just accept what he?s always been taught, but with a passion, he dives deep to discover truth for himself. Because of that, he blasts apart much of our traditional thinking, causing us to spend time contemplating our own preconceived notions. I invite you to read this work with an open Bible, an open notebook, and an open mind. You will be blessed! ?Dr. Randal E. Helms Senior Pastor Forestbrook Baptist Church
