Download or read book Handbook of Police Administration written by James Ruiz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2007-09-19 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As figureheads of the most visible segment of criminal justice, today’s police administrators are forced to tackle challenges never faced by their predecessors. Heightened local and global threats, advanced technologies, and increased demands for procedural transparency require new levels of flexibility, innovative thinking, and the ability to foster and maintain relationships within the community. It is more crucial than ever to recruit and retain capable leaders to guide law enforcement agencies at this pivotal time in history. Covering areas such as leadership in policing, use of force, and understanding how the law shapes police practice, Handbook of Police Administration examines the key topics that must be considered by law enforcement professionals. Recognizing that police leaders need the skills and traits of a politician, accountant, attorney, field lieutenant, and futurist, the authors cover a variety of contemporary issues surrounding police administration and management. Divided into five thematic sections, it considers the legal aspects of overseeing a public sector organization, as well as how research, technology, and training can assist modern police leaders in performing their duties more effectively and efficiently. The book covers problematic issues such as officers accepting gratuities, undercover work, and the time criteria required for promotional consideration. It concludes with a chapter comparing administrative issues in Australia with many of the subjects previously addressed with regard to U.S. protocol. Using a range of perspective, differing viewpoints, and controversial issues, Handbook of Police Administration provides a springboard to stimulate discussion at the cutting-edge of debate in the dynamic field of policing.
Download or read book Use of Force Investigations written by Kevin R. Davis and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jottings is a collection of poems written over a period of twenty years. Most of the poems in this collection are contextual. Written in different genres of poetry, while some of the poems appear as general statements but having a bearing on nature. Others are responses of the poet to social/economic/political issues and those related to women. The poems reflect the mood and views of the poet. While poems like "A Symbol of Beauty," "Horizon," "Loss" appear simple, they have an underlying meaning, the philosophy of life. In poems like "Disgusting" and "To a Brave Son," the poet points an accusing finger at the powers that be for the sorry state of affairs. "Love" brings out the true meaning of the word while describing the different stages in the life of a person. The life of a girl child form the theme of "Who Am I." The hapless condition of young women and children, especially girls, are brought to fore in "To Ponnus and Malalas" and "Sadist Minds." "Down Memory Lane" goes back in time. There are also satirical poems that take potshots at and ridicule the superstitious and the believers like "Light That Darkens," "In Fool's Paradise," "Onam," and "In Your Name." Again, while "Bapu" is on Mahatma Gandhi and his ideals, it ridicules all those who earned fame in his name. While "Motherland's Boys" talks of the deterioration of India-Pakistan relations, "How Many More Children Will You Kill" chides Israelis and Palestinians for deaths of innocent children. "An Unknown Past" looks at an old person struggling in vain to open the locked doors of her memory. There are also poems that talk of a personal loss and some that snub individuals that make haughty statements. All the illustrations in the book are by cartoonist and animator Mr. Swathi Jaikumar.

Download or read book Mastering Self written by Donald G. Hanna and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2019-12-05 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mastering self is commitment to a cause with conviction of conscience that transcends self. Mortal self is created by the person—distinct from immortal soul created by God. Self is courted by culture and politics with a propensity to ignore the lessons of history and practical philosophy by replacing timeless virtues with personal values. Consequently, mastering self has cultural, political, historical, philosophical, and theological implications. Our culture is consumed by idols, materialism, technology gadgets, and entertainment whereby the mindset of most persons is entitlement to benefits provided by government or employer. Most of us live like kings with income and wealth compared to the rest of the world. Check globalrichlist.com to remove any doubt. But what about the immortal soul? Most in our culture ignore this question. Mastering self doesn’t ignore it. Mastering self involves an understanding that doesn’t exist naturally in the human condition. It is cultivated by lifelong learning. This book is for serious thinkers who want to clarify their worldview and become what they should be. It consists of timeless truths and virtues for reference or contemplative study. Understanding them strengthens personal relations. Embracing them increases personal influence. Practicing them benefits anyone responsible for other people. Believing them promotes interpersonal skills. Living them cultivates character. This book consists of 177 one-page essays—white papers that provide insight regarding basic issues in life: written for concise, clear construct and context and organized for coherence and continuity. These papers result from a deep conviction that God counsels and confides in those who fear Him (Ps. 25:14). They are the product of my reading, teaching, writing, and pondering to keep my heart with all diligence regarding issues in life (Prov. 4:23): contemplation of soul in solitude. Some are politically incorrect, viz., those regarding the culture and the federal government with its debt: written by an old curmudgeon, gadfly, and stager with old-school insight and stubborn ideas about stubborn facts about stubborn problems. Stager is an appropriate appellation—experienced through many battles, some literal, during 32 years of law enforcement: 24 as police chief managing police affairs in an urban area with a large university.

Download or read book Blue Mafia written by Tim Tolka and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-04-27 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blue Mafia shows that small towns have even more severe police misconduct than many major metro areas by recounting the causes and consequences of two federal investigations of local police misconduct. Steubenville was the second city in the U.S. to sign a consent decree with the Justice Department, but nobody really knows why. Little do local residents know, the county narcotics squad was committing crimes similar to the LAPD's Rampart Scandal and the county prosecutor was setting up, robbing, and framing innocent locals and drug dealers alike. Warren had the fourth oldest Justice Department investigation in the country until the Trump administration unilaterally lifted the consent decree in April 2017. However, similar to Baltimore, the Warren police had a pattern or practice of illegal strip searches and cavity searches, excessive force, and a failure to investigate and discipline misconduct by officers. Blue Mafia recounts the struggle of two small communities with troubled police departments, focusing on the consequences of systemic police misconduct for women and people of color. Blue Mafia gives the most detailed account to date of police reform by consent decree, which can serve as a blueprint for citizens interested in investigating police misconduct and promoting police reform.

Book excerpt: Motorcyclists face legal challenges that non-motorcyclists don’t even consider. Unfortunately, many motorcyclists are ignorant of those challenges as well—until they find themselves in legal trouble. In addition to all the physical hazards of the road, motorcyclists must negotiate a seemingly endless array of legal hazards, from the myriad licensing requirements and restrictions that vary from state to state to the issue of anti-motorcycle bias among law enforcement officials. While motorcycle magazines frequently publish articles addressing various aspects of the legal issues with which a rider must contend, there has never been a one-stop source that contains all of this information until now. There are legal issues triggered by the simple act of a CAC opening a file. As the case progresses, the legal issues often expand exponentially. Ultimately, decisions made that affect the health, welfare and future of a child will be decided in a courtroom or other legal processes leading up to the courtroom. This is the fourth edition of the "Legal Eagles of Children's Advocacy Centers" series written by Andrew Agatston to CACs as part of his national Legal Eagle List Serv. It follows his 2012 book "The Legal Eagles 2010 book, The Legal Eagles Guide for Childrens Advocacy Centers: Soaring Confidently in the Courtroom, and his 2009 book, The Legal Eagles Guide for Childrens Advocacy Center: A Lawyers Guide to Soaring in the Courtroom.
