Thorsteinsson and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1980 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Boothia Uplift is a major structural feature that extends north from Boothia Peninsula to the northwestern extremity of Devon Island. On Somerset Island and Boothia Peninsula it consists of Precambrian crystalline rocks and Proterozoic sediments that are flanked by Cambrian to Lower Devonian platform-type sedimentary rocks. This report deals with strata of Late Silurian to Early Devonian age, the time of the principal crustal movements that produced the Uplift." --
Download or read book The History and Sedimentology of Ancient Reef Systems written by George D. Stanley Jr. and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Preface: The chapters of this book contain contributions from an international group of specialists. They address some important themes in both modern and ancient reef systems. Some chapters contain `snapshots' of reefs of particular intervals, while others touch on relevant themes of both modern and ancient reefs - themes that weave their way through reefs of all ages. This book opens and sets the stage with an introduction to both modern and ancient reefs and reef ecosystems. This chapter is also intended as a basic introduction for students, general geologists, and professionals or others who may be unfamiliar with reefs and reef ecosystems. The chapter addresses the living coral reef ecosystem, stressing among other relevant factors, the importance of ecological and physical interactions between the organisms and their environment. The chapter also addresses mass extinction and provides a general overview of the history of reefs.
Download or read book Regional Stratigraphy of North America written by W.J. Frazier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 735 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An early reviewer of this book stated that he had difficulty assessing its marketability because it "falls between the cracks" of geological literature. We have designed this book to meet a need of modem geology: namely, a single source providing both detailed and synoptic stratigraphy of the various regions of North America, through geological time. Shortly after beginning work on such a book, we realized why it had not yet been written: it required six years of effort, assimilation of an incredible amount of information, and two years' additional work to cut the volume down to publishable size. Further, by the time the final chapter was written, the fIrst few were already out of date. Nevertheless, the book lies in front of you. It is intended to serve several purposes. As a textbook, it will serve the following courses: • Regional stratigraphy • Sedimentary tectonics • Regional tectonics • Advanced historical geology • Survey-level paleontology Obviously, not all portions of the book are relevant to all of the above courses. We assume the reader will retain this book after the particular course is done, and will use it as a reference book. Hopefully, others will obtain the book solely for reference purposes. We believe it will be especially useful for the working geologist or academic geologist seeking generalized and some moderately detailed information about a region or geological time interval which is unfamiliar.

Download or read book Seismic and Sequence Stratigraphy and Integrated Stratigraphy written by Gemma Aiello and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-12-06 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains six chapters dealing with the investigation of seismic and sequence stratigraphy and integrated stratigraphy, including the stratigraphic unconformities, in different geological settings and using several techniques and methods, including the seismostratigraphic and the sequence stratigraphic analysis, the field geological survey, the well log stratigraphic interpretation, and the lithologic and paleobotanical data. Book chapters are separated into two main sections: (i) seismic and sequence stratigraphy and (ii) integrated stratigraphy. There are three chapters in the first section, including the application of sequence and seismic stratigraphy to the fine-grained shales, to the fluvial facies and depositional environments, and to the Late Miocene geological structures offshore of Taiwan. In the second section, there are three chapters dealing with the integrated stratigraphic investigation of Jurassic deposits of the southern Siberian platform, with the stratigraphic unconformities, reviewing the related geological concepts and studying examples from Middle-Upper Paleozoic successions; and, finally, with the integrated stratigraphy of the Cenozoic deposits of the Andean foreland basin (northwestern Argentina).

Download or read book Reservoir Characterization written by Larry Lake and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reservoir Characterization is a collection of papers presented at the Reservoir Characterization Technical Conference, held at the Westin Hotel-Galleria in Dallas on April 29-May 1, 1985. Conference held April 29-May 1, 1985, at the Westin Hotel—Galleria in Dallas. The conference was sponsored by the National Institute for Petroleum and Energy Research, Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Reservoir characterization is a process for quantitatively assigning reservoir properties, recognizing geologic information and uncertainties in spatial variability. This book contains 19 chapters, and begins with the geological characterization of sandstone reservoir, followed by the geological prediction of shale distribution within the Prudhoe Bay field. The subsequent chapters are devoted to determination of reservoir properties, such as porosity, mineral occurrence, and permeability variation estimation. The discussion then shifts to the utility of a Bayesian-type formalism to delineate qualitative ""soft"" information and expert interpretation of reservoir description data. This topic is followed by papers concerning reservoir simulation, parameter assignment, and method of calculation of wetting phase relative permeability. This text also deals with the role of discontinuous vertical flow barriers in reservoir engineering. The last chapters focus on the effect of reservoir heterogeneity on oil reservoir. Petroleum engineers, scientists, and researchers will find this book of great value.

Download or read book Biostratigraphy and Conodont Faunas of Upper Ordovician Through Middle Devonian Rocks Eastern Arctic Archipelago written by Teruya Uyeno and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1990 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The lower and middle Paleozoic strata of the eastern Arctic Archipelago change rapidly laterally from thin, shallow-water platform deposits to thicker, deeper water basinal deposits. The difficulty in correlating such strata has been overcome in part through well controlled conodont zonation, and by supplementary dating using palynomorphs and megafaunas. Such precise dating and correlation are essential for success in the search for petroleum and other mineral deposits. The study will also help refine calibration of the geological time scale in other parts of the world." --
