Book Transport Phenomena for Chemical Reactor Design

Download or read book Transport Phenomena for Chemical Reactor Design written by Laurence A. Belfiore and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-07-04 with total page 910 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laurence Belfiore’s unique treatment meshes two mainstreamsubject areas in chemical engineering: transport phenomena andchemical reactor design. Expressly intended as an extension ofBird, Stewart, and Lightfoot’s classic Transport Phenomena, and Froment and Bischoff’s Chemical Reactor Analysis andDesign, Second Edition, Belfiore’s unprecedented textexplores the synthesis of these two disciplines in a manner theupper undergraduate or graduate reader can readily grasp. Transport Phenomena for Chemical Reactor Designapproaches the design of chemical reactors from microscopic heatand mass transfer principles. It includes simultaneousconsideration of kinetics and heat transfer, both critical to theperformance of real chemical reactors. Complementary topics intransport phenomena and thermodynamics that provide support forchemical reactor analysis are covered, including: Fluid dynamics in the creeping and potential flow regimesaround solid spheres and gas bubbles The corresponding mass transfer problems that employ velocityprofiles, derived in the book’s fluid dynamics chapter, tocalculate interphase heat and mass transfer coefficients Heat capacities of ideal gases via statistical thermodynamicsto calculate Prandtl numbers Thermodynamic stability criteria for homogeneous mixtures thatreveal that binary molecular diffusion coefficients must bepositive In addition to its comprehensive treatment, the text alsocontains 484 problems and ninety-six detailed solutions to assistin the exploration of the subject. Graduate and advancedundergraduate chemical engineering students, professors, andresearchers will appreciate the vision, innovation, and practicalapplication of Laurence Belfiore’s Transport Phenomenafor Chemical Reactor Design.

Book Experimental analysis of fast reactions in gas liquid flows

Download or read book Experimental analysis of fast reactions in gas liquid flows written by Jens Timmermann and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2018-10-28 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gases have to be specifically mixed with a continuous liquid phase to perform a reaction with high yield and selectivity. The time scales of mixing are determined by the transport processes in the boundary layer close to the phase boundary and by bubble swarm turbulence. For clarification of the local mass transfer in bubbly flows, an experimental setup is developed and successfully used to investigate single rectilinear (spherical), helical (ellipsoid) and irregular rising bubbles with and without chemical reaction. Therefore, the time resolved scanning laser induced fluorescence technique is further developed and applied for the first time to bubbly flows to allow new insights in the mass transfer processes.

Book Dynamics of Water Surface Flows and Waves

Download or read book Dynamics of Water Surface Flows and Waves written by Yasunori Watanabe and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-11-11 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamics of Water Surface Flows and Waves provides theoretical descriptions of the whole life of water surface waves through their birth, propagation, evolution and finally breaking. While initial capillary waves are created via instability at air-water interfaces, potential wave theories adequately describe interactions of waves with current, bathymetry and structure. In the final breaking stage, potential fluid motions in the waves rapidly evolve into vortical turbulent flows that disturb the surfaces, resulting in entrainment of air-bubbles and ejection of sea spray in bursting bubbles floating on the surface. All theories and analytical methods required to understand the series of wave processes, over diverse areas of subjects, including turbulence, diffusion, vortex and capillary dynamics, shallow water approach, and stability analysis, as well as the conventional potential wave theory, are comprehensively covered in this book. All of the mathematical formulas are consistently developed from theorems and linked with physics, which provides theoretical understanding and further interest in wave dynamics. This is an ideal graduate-level textbook or reference for engineers and researchers in the fields of fluid and wave mechanics, coastal and ocean engineering.

Book Transport at the Air Sea Interface

Download or read book Transport at the Air Sea Interface written by Christoph S. Garbe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-06-30 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One key uncertainty in predictions of future climate is caused by the lack of knowledge of transport processes in the air-water interface; this poses the main transfer resistance between oceans and atmosphere. This book reviews recent progress in the domains of experimental process studies as well as computer stimulation. It represents an early approach of merging insights gained in both fields and broadens our understanding of air-water gas and heat exchange.

Book Gas Transfer at Water Surfaces

Download or read book Gas Transfer at Water Surfaces written by W. Brutsaert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1983-12-31 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transfer across the surface of environmental waters is of interest as an important phase in the geophysical and natural biochemical cycles of numer ous substances; indeed it governs the transition, one way or the other, be tween the dissolved state in the water and the gaseous state in the atmo sphere. Especially with increasing population and industrialization, gas transfer at water surfaces has become a critical factor in the understanding of the various pathways of wastes in the environment and of their engineering management. This interfacial mass transfer is, by its very nature, highly complex. The air and the water are usually in turbulent motion, and the interface be tween them is irregular, and disturbed by waves, sometimes accompanied by breaking, spray and bubble formation. Thus the transfer involves a wide variety of physical phenomena occurring over a wide range of scales. As a consequence, scientists and engineers from diverse disciplines and problem areas, have approached the problem, often with greatly differing analytical and experimental techniques and methodologies.
