Book Laser Beam Coupling Via Optical Phase Conjugation in BaTiO3

Download or read book Laser Beam Coupling Via Optical Phase Conjugation in BaTiO3 written by Karen A. Wink and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nonlinear crystal barium titanate was used to couple mutually incoherent argon-ion laser beams using a co-pumped four-wave mixing mechanism which transfers photons from each beam into the phase-conjugate outputs of the others. The four-wave mixing geometry which was used has been described in the literature as the mutually incoherent beam coupler. The beams, all incident on the same crystal a face, form coupling loops as they internally reflect into each other at the opposite crystal corner. Coupling between two and three beams was investigated. Coupling between two beams resulted in phase-conjugate returns which were both self-pumped and co-pumped. Reflectivities of 9% to 42% were obtained for all angles of incidence greater than 50 degrees. (The angle between beams was less than 7 degrees). Keywords: Phase conjugation, Barium titanate, Four-wave mixing, Laser beams, Coupling, Theses. (jes).

Book Beam Couplings in BaTiO3 and Phase Conjugation Effects in Transmission and Reflections in BaTiO3

Download or read book Beam Couplings in BaTiO3 and Phase Conjugation Effects in Transmission and Reflections in BaTiO3 written by Putcha Venkatesvarlu and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is because of the mutual fanning of A1 and A2 which leads to their Bragg diffeaction into the reverse directions of each other to D2 and D1 respectively. Results obtained recently on the effect of phase conjugation using He-Ne laser in the above crystal are discussed. For instance, specular reflection A1R1 and a subsequent back reflection A1R2 of the laser beam A1 decrease in intensity as the self-pumped phase conjugation develops. On the other hand, parts of the self-pumped phase conjugated beams go out of the crystal as additional transmitted beams A1T1 and A1T2. [Authors' abstract].

Book Optical Phase Conjugation

Download or read book Optical Phase Conjugation written by Robert A. Fisher and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book appears at a time of intense activity in optical phase conjugation. We chose not to await the maturation of the field, but instead to provide this material in time to be useful in its development. We have tried very hard to elucidate and interrelate the various nonlinear phenomena which can be used for optical phase conjugation.

Book Laser Optics of Condensed Matter

Download or read book Laser Optics of Condensed Matter written by J. Birman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Third Binational USA-USSR Symposium titled "Laser Optics of Con densed Matter" was held in Leningrad 1 June - 5 June 1987. This volume con tains the full text of 64 papers presented at (or prepared for) the Symposium in both plenary and poster sessions. This Symposium reestablished the very productive series of "Light Scattering" Binational Symposia which were initi ated in Moscow in 1975. Unfortunately there was an eight-year hiatus follow ing the Second Symposium in New York (1979). This interval, caused by serious chilling of the climate of USA-USSR collaboration, deprived the active scien tists on both sides of the opportunity to meet and interact in the active format of a conference. During this eight year interval there has been very rapid and intense development of scientific activity in the general area of laser optics phe nomena. The development of ultrafast laser sources has permitted rapid advances in time resolved spectroscopy and ultrafast processes; the field of optical bistability and strong nonlinearity became a hot topic; and intense work is now underway to clarify ideas of photon localization. These new dev elopments complement many advances in the study of low dimensional systems such as surfaces, new work on phase transitions, and novel studies of elemen tary excitations such as polariton-excitons in localized environments such as quantum wells and heterojunctions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years one has witnessed in physics a substantial increase in interest in carrying out fundamental studies in the nonlinear optics of condensed matter. At the Danish universities, this increase has been especially pronounced at the Institute of Physics at the University of Aalborg, where the main activities are centered around fundamental research within the domains of nonlinear quantum optics, nonlinear optics of metals and superconductors, and nonlinear surface optics. In recognition of this it was decided to arrange the first international summer school on nonlinear optics in Denmark at the Institute of Physics at the University of Aalborg. This book is based on the lectures and contributed papers presented at this international summer school, which was held in the period 31 July-4 Au gust 1989. About 60 experienced and younger scientists from 12 different countries participated. Twenty-eight lectures were given by 14 distinguished scientists from the United States, Italy, France, Germany, Scotland, England, and Denmark. In addition to the lectures given by the invited speakers, 11 contributed papers were presented. The programme of the summer school em phasized a treatment of basic physical properties of the nonlinear interaction of light and condensed matter and both theoretical and experimental aspects were covered. Furthermore, general principles as well as topics of current interest in the research literature were discussed.

Book The Physics and Applications of Photorefractive Materials

Download or read book The Physics and Applications of Photorefractive Materials written by L. Solymar and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 1996-08-15 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photorefractive materials combine photoconductive and electro-optic properties: light affects their electrical conductivity; their optical properties (refractive index, etc.) are affected by applied electric fields. The aim of this book is to cover the vast range of phenomena occurring in Photorefractive Materials. For Physicists it is part of the fashionable subject of Nonlinear Optics. Engineers tend to place it as part of optoelectronics promising a variety of new devices. This book summarizes the results of 28 years of research in a manner that would appeal both to the beginner (a graduate student who has just entered the field) and to the expert (who might have done research on some aspect of the subject for a decade or more). It is in three parts. Part I serves as an introduction with emphasis on physical principles and simple mathematical models. Part II is a comprehensive account of all the major advances. Its main merit is the organization of the material accompanied by a detailed list of references. Part III is concerned with the enormous range of potential applications.
