Book Cabin in the Woods or How A Kid From Brooklyn Wound Up with 20 Acres of Deer Poop

Download or read book Cabin in the Woods or How A Kid From Brooklyn Wound Up with 20 Acres of Deer Poop written by Alexandra Sloan and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-06-14 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever get into a series of situations with which you had no prior experience but still had to deal with it on a daily basis? Consider handling occurrences so alien that nothing in your background or the places you had lived could prepare you. That was Alexandra's problem. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York; then married and living in Los Angeles, were scarcely adequate preparation for the challenge she now faced. Life in the first colony on Mars? No, it was far more daunting--building a home and living in rural Northern California. The adventures of building a house, raising a child, having an absentee husband, dealing with the indigenous wildlife, and having three dogs and a parrot misnamed Angel (more like Spawn of Satan) made life an interesting and comedic ride.

Book excerpt: “Lizard Tales, People and Events in the Life of a Naturalist” consists of stories that I told in my ecology, evolution, ornithology, herpetology, natural history, and general biology classes or around campfires, and includes many that have never been told to anyone until now. The book is autobiographical and geographic: Chicago, Hollywood, San Diego, UCLA, Cal. Tech., New York, Arizona and also Australia, Mexico, and Central America. Book excerpt: When Auntie Ned spontaneously combusts, she leaves behind a pair of smoking orthopedic shoes and a house that she wills to her best friend's daughters. Amy and Gwendolyn are sisters--closer than close--who move into Ned's bungalow and inherit her legacies: a closet full of housedresses, a freezer full of meat, and the passionate flames of unrequited desire. Amy's appetites--for meat, for sex, for getting her way--are ferocious, while Gwendolyn longs for a more normal existence but can't refuse her big sister anything at all. Not the intrusion of Dr. Minor, Professor of Pyrophenomena, who has come to investigate Auntie Ned's death. And not the presence in their bed of Roosevelt, a troubled carpenter whose steamy entanglement with the sisters will either save them all or create a situation that's bound to combust. ...a good Hollywood thriller... as well done as an exercise in flash defrosting. Spontaneous microwaves rather than thaws... - Kirkus Reviews

Book Widow Basquiat

Download or read book Widow Basquiat written by Jennifer Clement and published by Crown. This book was released on 2014-11-04 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The beautifully written, deeply affecting story of Jean-Michel Basquiat's partner, her past, and their life together An NPR Best Book of the Year Selection New York City in the 1980s was a mesmerizing, wild place. A hotbed for hip hop, underground culture, and unmatched creative energy, it spawned some of the most significant art of the 20th century. It was where Jean-Michel Basquiat became an avant-garde street artist and painter, swiftly achieving worldwide fame. During the years before his death at the age of 27, he shared his life with his lover and muse, Suzanne Mallouk. A runaway from an unhappy home in Canada, Suzanne first met Jean-Michel in a bar on the Lower East Side in 1980. Thus began a tumultuous and passionate relationship that deeply influenced one of the most exceptional artists of our time. In emotionally resonant prose, award-winning author Jennifer Clement tells the story of the passion that swept Suzanne and Jean-Michel into a short-lived, unforgettable affair. A poetic interpretation like no other, Widow Basquiat is an expression of the unrelenting power of addiction, obsession and love.
