Download or read book How to Draw Cool Stuff written by CATHERINE V. HOLMES and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-29 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "How to Draw Cool Stuff: Basics, Shading, Texture, Pattern and Optical Illusions" is the second book in the How to Draw Cool Stuff series. Inside you will find simple illustrations that cover the necessities of drawing cool stuff. Specific exercises are provided that offer step-by-step guidelines for drawing a variety of subjects. Each lesson starts with an easy-to-draw shape that will become the basic structure of the drawing. From there, each step adds elements to that structure, allowing the artist to build on their creation and make a more detailed image. Starting with the basic forms, the artist is provided a guide to help see objects in terms of simplified shapes. Instructions for shading to add depth, contrast, character and movement to a drawing are then covered. The varieties of texture and pattern that can be included in an artwork offer another layer of interest and depth to a design. These elements are necessary to indicate the way something looks like it feels in a work (texture) or creating the repetition of shapes, lines or colors (patterns). Illustrated optical illusions involve images that are sensed and perceived to be different from what they really are, showing examples of how the mind and the eyes can play tricks on each other. All you need is a piece of paper, a pencil and an eraser and you are ready to draw cool stuff. Once the drawing is complete, it can be colored, shaded or designed in any way you like to make it original. Following these exercises is a great way to practice your craft and begin seeing things in terms of simple shapes within a complex object.

Book Art from Your Core

    Book Details:
  • Author : Kate Kretz
  • Publisher : Intellect Books
  • Release : 2024-02-08
  • ISBN : 1789386632
  • Pages : 357 pages

Download or read book Art from Your Core written by Kate Kretz and published by Intellect Books. This book was released on 2024-02-08 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book guides artists through the discovery and development of the art that they alone were born to create. Through real-life examples and exercises, we tear down the cultural, educational, and psychological obstacles to finding authentic visual voice, stripping away years of assumptions, external and self-imposed limiting parameters. We learn how to listen to the Universe and get out of the way when work wants to come through us. We construct a core foundation, unique to each artist, one that will grow along with them in their artistic practice. Artists will discover their own singular visual vocabulary by mining their personal history, psyche, and world view to reveal new creative directions, and learn how to intensify and develop their core ideas to make them more resonant and complex. We explore methodologies to tap into the subconscious, cultivate breakthroughs, create environments to maximize the gestation of ideas, instill bravery, and do meaningful research to produce deeply layered works of art. While designed for college students, professional artists will also find it allows them to get to that illusive “next level” in their work; the one that calls to them, haunts them in their dreams, yet remains unarticulated in their practice. In addition to helping undergraduate and graduate students who are looking to identify, articulate, and hone their vocabulary, it can serve as a tool for more established artists to step up or refresh their practice. It is the kind of book that artists will keep on the studio shelf, to pick up time and time again, as their responses to the exercises will change throughout the course of their career. There are extensive lists, exercises, and questionnaires, anecdotes of art-historically significant artists and detailed descriptions of the methodologies they employ to tap into the subconscious, various types of research on creative breakthroughs (and how to apply it to your own process), helpful suggestions to create an environment / lifestyle to maximize the gestation of ideas, and how to do meaningful research to produce deeply layered works of art. While the tone of the book is often earnest and spiritual (in an “art is religion” kind of way), Kretz is aiming for a straightforward, accessible, kind-but-no-nonsense tenor, with some humor, and nurturing “tough love” when needed, to say some of the things that artists need to hear, but few people have the guts to tell them.

Book Master of Disaster

Download or read book Master of Disaster written by Lois T. Hauck and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-04-22 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ed Pusick was a quiet and eccentric man, a bachelor all his life, whose passion was his artwork. After his time in the Navy when an accident disabled his legs for the rest of his life, Ed became a source of many inventive designs as a professional but apparently never took the trouble to seek patents, recognition, nor much gratitude for his work. Ed later drew sketches as an illustrator for an architectural firm in Grand Rapids, where he met a co-worker who encouraged him to begin drawings of Great Lakes shipwrecks. Eds shipwreck art became prolific. He created a series of drawings of the most famous vessels of the Great Lakes shipwreck coasts. Many of these have been published over the years in the Shipwreck Journal, featured on the History Channel, displayed in museums, and used to illustrate history books and other publications. Many of these drawings from Pusick, known as the Master of Disaster, were produced as limited edition prints. Lois Hauck, Eds caregiver during the last years of his life explains, Ed frequently said he would take his secret of drawing angry waves to his grave. And he did. This narrative describes the stories and works that were passed on to Lois.
