Book Landskrona Foto View Chile From History to Stories A tentative Tale of Photography in Chile

Download or read book Landskrona Foto View Chile From History to Stories A tentative Tale of Photography in Chile written by and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each summer, Landskrona Foto presents another country?s photographic history in an exhibition which has become an annual tradition. This year, it?s the turn of a Latin American country, with the choice falling on Chile. Sweden and Chile have a lot in common. Both countries are geographically elongated and located on the edge of their respective continents. Ever since the coup which led to a military dictatorship in 1973, connections between the two countries on a human level have been strong. There are still around 50,000 people of Chilean descent living in Sweden. Cultural and scientific ties between the two countries are strong.0At the same time, there are of course major differences ? socially, culturally and politically ? as demonstrated by Chile?s photographic tradition. This exhibition has been compiled by curator Christian Caujolle in collaboration with Rodrigo Gomez Rovira, artistic director of the international festival of photography in Valparaiso. It includes the work of internationally renowned photographer Sergio Larrain, as well as six other photographers.00Exhibition: Landskrona Museum, Sweden (28.06.-28.10.2018).

Download or read book Landskrona Foto View written by Hasse Persson and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In summer 2017, and a little way into the autumn, as part of Landskrona Foto View, Landskrona will be showing parts of the Finnish photo miracle. Landskrona Foto View was launched in 2014 and each year is devoted to investigating and exhibiting photographs from the photo treasury of a selected country. After Turkey, the Czech Republic and Ireland, it is now photographs from our neighbouring country in the east that will be shown. Landskrona?s choice of Finland coincides with the celebration of the country as an independent nation; a hundred years have passed since 1917 when Finland declared its independence after the October Revolution in Russia. In the last 25 years Finland has established itself as one of the most interesting places for photography, a flow of original and talented photographers have emerged from the land of a thousand lakes to take their place on the world?s photographic stage.00Exhibition: Landskrona Foto View, Landskrona, Sweden (29.06.-17.09.2017).

Book excerpt: John Alinder, son of a farmer, was born in 1878 in the village of Savasta, Altuna parish, in Uppland, a province in eastern central Sweden. Alinder remained in the village all his life. He chose not to take over his parents' farm and instead became a self-taught photographer and jack of all trades. He was a music lover, holder of the Swedish agency for the British record label and gramophone brand His Master's Voice. For a time he ran a country shop from his home, and he even operated an illicit bar for a while. From the 1910s to the 1930s he portrayed the local people, the landscape around them and their way of life. He often photographed them in their homes and gardens, using the technology of the time, glass plates. These he developed in a small darkroom he had built and then made the prints in the sunlight The Alinder collection was 'discovered' in the 1980s when a curator found over 8,000 glass plates stacked away in a library basement. Children placed on chairs, people perched i

Book Good Pictures

Download or read book Good Pictures written by Kim Beil and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2020-06-23 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A picture-rich field guide to American photography, from daguerreotype to digital. We are all photographers now, with camera phones in hand and social media accounts at the ready. And we know which pictures we like. But what makes a "good picture"? And how could anyone think those old styles were actually good? Soft-focus yearbook photos from the '80s are now hopelessly—and happily—outdated, as are the low-angle portraits fashionable in the 1940s or the blank stares of the 1840s. From portraits to products, landscapes to food pics, Good Pictures proves that the history of photography is a history of changing styles. In a series of short, engaging essays, Kim Beil uncovers the origins of fifty photographic trends and investigates their original appeal, their decline, and sometimes their reuse by later generations of photographers. Drawing on a wealth of visual material, from vintage how-to manuals to magazine articles for working photographers, this full-color book illustrates the evolution of trends with hundreds of pictures made by amateurs, artists, and commercial photographers alike. Whether for selfies or sepia tones, the rules for good pictures are always shifting, reflecting new ways of thinking about ourselves and our place in the visual world.

Book Stefen Chow and Huiyi Lin the Poverty Line

Download or read book Stefen Chow and Huiyi Lin the Poverty Line written by Huiyi Lin and published by . This book was released on 2021-05-27 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How the poor eat: an ambitious visual anthropology of diet and poverty in 36 case studies across the world To demonstrate what it means to live at the poverty line, Beijing-based artist duo Stefen Chow and Huiyi Lin visited 36 countries and territories on six continents--from Germany and China to New York and London--examining poverty with regard to food. From local markets, they bought vegetables, fruits, cereal products, proteins and snacks, basing the amount of food they could afford per day on the respective poverty-line definition set by each government. The duo photographed the resulting food, placed on a page of a local newspaper bought that day, calibrating lighting and shooting distance to ensure uniformity and comparability. In addition, the duo selected nine foods available in most of the economies observed to illustrate the globalization of production and the variations in prices and consumption. With this brilliantly conceived project, Chow and Lin render the problem of poverty visible and comprehensible to all.
