Book Land Rover Discovery

Since 1989, the Discovery has gone through several iterations, but its essential qualities have remained unchanged. Book Range Rover Specification Guide

Download or read book Range Rover Specification Guide written by James Taylor and published by The Crowood Press. This book was released on 2024-06-14 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to give guidance on the original, ex-factory specifications of the first-generation Range Rovers built between 1970 and 1996. Sometimes known as Range Rover Classics (although the only ones properly so called were built after autumn 1994), these models laid the foundations for the following generations of Land Rover's world-acclaimed Range Rover. Many of these early Range Rovers fell on hard times as they passed on to third, fourth and subsequent owners. Many were butchered beyond recognition when converted into off-road playthings. But now, more than a quarter of a century since the last examples were built, it is no surprise that enthusiasts have begun to restore examples to their original condition. This has created a demand for accurate information about what that original condition actually was. James Taylor has trawled painstakingly through original documents and examined original vehicles to put together all the known facts in one place. This guide will be essential reading for everyone with an interest in restoring or running one of these iconic models that became the foundation of today's Land Rover marque.

Book Torn Trousers A True Story of Courage and Adventure How A Couple Sacrificed Everything To Escape to Paradise

Download or read book Torn Trousers A True Story of Courage and Adventure How A Couple Sacrificed Everything To Escape to Paradise written by Andrew St Pierre White and published by 4xOverland. This book was released on 2015-02-20 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What could possibly go wrong in paradise? Tired of mortgage payments, thirty-something Andrew and Gwynn sold nearly everything they owned but their Siamese cat and escaped their humdrum nine-to-five existence for life in paradise—a tiny island in one of the remotest spots on Earth: the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Woefully inexperienced, they took control of a luxury game lodge that catered to the likes of French aristocrats, Hollywood directors, Mafia lawyers, and the captain of the England cricket team. Not forgetting the hippos who liked to crash cocktail hour. Trouble soon followed as the reality of running a hotel on an island accessible only by boat or plane burst upon them. Andrew and Gwynn learned it's one thing for guests to wake up with gentle giraffes outside their windows, but it's quite another to keep them safe from poisonous snakes, temperamental elephants, and a hyena with a taste for plastic. All that was child's play compared to figuring out how to feed their guests when a 'quick run' to the grocery store required a plane, a bush pilot, and moderate risk to life, limb, and property. By turns funny, touching, and suspenseful, Torn Trousers is a real modern fairytale about getting exactly what you wished for…and then having to live with it. Scroll up and buy to escape to Africa today!

Download or read book Jue 477 written by Martin Port and published by Porter Press. This book was released on 2020-09 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revealed to the world in 1948, the Land-Rover not only revived the Rover Company's fortunes in an austerity-riddled post-war period, but galvanized its future, thanks to the model's almost immediate success. With the manufacture of an initial 48 'pre-production' examples coming to a close, the first official production models were assembled - starting with chassis 860001. As original factory records prove, this pivotal vehicle was destined for His Royal Highness King George VI, but the decision was made to postpone the presentation and instead, 'number one' was retained by the factory until 1950, when it was registered JUE 477 before leaving Rover Company ownership. After decades left out in the cold and exposed to the elements, 860001 had certainly seen better days, but thanks to the determination of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, founder and Chairman of INEOS, the future of JUE 477 was secured in 2017. Over the next two years, a dedicated team of experts, led by chief restorer, Julian Shoolheifer set about restoring the vehicle while retaining as much of its original DNA as was physically, and safely, possible and making sure that this remarkable vehicle's history and past life was still worn with pride.

Download or read book First Overland written by Tim Slessor and published by Andrews UK Limited. This book was released on 2016-03-07 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why Not? After all, no-one had ever done it before. It would be one of the longest of all overland journeys – half way round the world, from the English Channel to Singapore. They knew that several expeditions had already tried it. Some had got as far as the desrts of Persia; a few had even reached the plains of India. But no one had managed to go on from there: over the jungle clad mountains of Assam and across northern Burma to Thailand and Malaya. Over the last 3,000 miles it seemed there were ‘just too many rivers and too few roads'. But no-one really knew … In fact, their problems began much earlier than that. As mere undergraduates, they had no money, no cars, nothing. But with a cool audacity, which was to become characteristic, they set to work – wheedling and cajoling. First, they coaxed the BBC to come up with some film for a possible TV series. They then gently persuaded the manufacturers to lend them two factory-fresh Land Rovers. A publisher was even sweet-talked into giving them an advance on a book. By the time they were ready to go, their sponsors (more than 80 of them) ranged from whiskey distillers to the makers of collapsible buckets. In late 1955, they set off. Seven months and 12,000 miles later, two very weary Land Rovers, escorted by police outriders, rolled into Singapore – to flash bulbs and champagne. Now, fifty years on, their book, ‘First Overland', is republished – with a foreword by Sir David Attenborough. After all, it was he who gave them that film.

Book They Found Our Engineer

Download or read book They Found Our Engineer written by Michael Bishop and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The British Land Rover 4x4 has grown from 1948 to become one of the world's leading automotive brands. Exactly how it all came together back in the late 1940's and early 50's has been the topic of interest and debate for many years. This was until two Australian enthusiasts, Michael Bishop and Alex Massey quite literally stumbled across senior member of the original Land Rover development team, Arthur Goddard living in Brisbane, Australia in 2009. The discovery led to many of the myths and tales surrounding the early vehicles to be heard as it happened from Arthur's point of view. Then to a trip by Arthur to visit his old work place in Solihull and to the vehicle that he helped bring to life back in 1948. The book contains both a technical and human side to this incredible story as well as a great reunion between Arthur and his old colleague Spen King who went onto design the Range Rover in the 1960's. This is truly a unique story from the time of post War World two Britain to modern day Australia and how the iconic 4x4 grew up so quickly in the 1950's to become the world leader that it is today.
