Book Modeling and Computation of Boundary Layer Flows

Download or read book Modeling and Computation of Boundary Layer Flows written by Tuncer Cebeci and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-09-02 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of the book, Modeling and Computation of Boundary-Layer Flows^ extends the topic to include compressible flows. This implies the inclusion of the energy equation and non-constant fluid properties in the continuity and momentum equations. The necessary additions are included in new chapters, leaving the first nine chapters to serve as an introduction to incompressible flows and, therefore, as a platform for the extension. This part of the book can be used for a one semester course as described below. Improvements to the incompressible flows portion of the book include the removal of listings of computer programs and their description, and their incor poration in two CD-ROMs. A listing of the topics incorporated in the CD-ROM is provided before the index. In Chapter 7 there is a more extended discussion of initial conditions for three-dimensional flows, application of the characteristic box to a model problem and discussion of flow separation in three-dimensional laminar flows. There are also changes to Chapter 8, which now includes new sections on Tollmien-Schlichting and cross-flow instabilities and on the predic tion of transition with parabolised stability equations, and Chapter 9 provides a description of the rational behind interactive boundary-layer procedures.

Book The Solution of the Laminar boundary layer Equation for the Flat Plate for Velocity and Temperature Fields for Variable Physical Properties and for the Diffusion Field at High Concentration

Download or read book The Solution of the Laminar boundary layer Equation for the Flat Plate for Velocity and Temperature Fields for Variable Physical Properties and for the Diffusion Field at High Concentration written by H. Shuh and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In connection with Pohlhausen's solution for the temperature field on the flat plate, a series of formulas were indicated by means of which the velocity and temperature field for variable physical characteristics can be computed by an integral equation and an iteration method based on it. With it, the following cases were solved: On the assumption that the viscosity simply varies with the temperature while the other fluid properties remain constant, the velocity and temperature field on the heated and cooled plate, respectively, was computed at the Prandtl numbers 12.5 and 100 (viscous fluids). A closer study of these two cases resulted in general relations: The calculations for a gas of Pr number 0.7 (air) were conducted on the assumption that all fluid properties vary with the temperature, and the velocities are low enough for the heat of friction to be discounted. The result was a thickening of the boundary layers, but no appreciable modification in shearing stress or heat-transfer coefficient.

Book On the Three dimensional Instability of Laminar Boundary Layers on Concave Walls

Download or read book On the Three dimensional Instability of Laminar Boundary Layers on Concave Walls written by Henry Görtler and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study is made of the stability of laminar boundary-layer profiles on slightly curved walls relative to small disturbances that result from vortices whose axes are parallel to the principal direction of flow. The result is an eigenvalue problem by which, for a given undisturbed flow at a prescribed wall, the amplification or decay is computed for each Reynolds number and each vortex thickness. For neutral disturbances (zero amplification) a critical Reynolds number is determined for each vortex distribution. The numerical calculation produces amplified disturbances on concave walls only.

Book Inverse Solutions for Laminar Boundary layer Flows with Separation and Reattachment

Download or read book Inverse Solutions for Laminar Boundary layer Flows with Separation and Reattachment written by James Edward Carter and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical solutions of the laminar, incompressible boundary-layer equations are presented for flows involving separation and reattachment. Regular solutions are obtained with an inverse approach in which either the displacement thickness or the skin friction is specified; the pressure is deduced from the solution. A vorticity--stream-function formulation of the boundary-layer equations is used to eliminate the unknown pressure. Solutions of the resulting finite-difference equations, in which the flow direction is taken into account, are obtained by several global iteration schemes which are stable and have unconditional diagonal dominance. Results are compared with Klineberg and Steger's separated boundary-layer calculations, and with Briley's solution of the Navier-Stokes equations for a separated region. In addition, an approximate technique is presented in which the streamwise convection of vorticity is set equal to zero in the reversed flow region; such a technique results in a quick forward-marching procedure for separated flows.

Book Axisymmetric Laminar Boundary Layers with Very Large Transverse Curvature

Download or read book Axisymmetric Laminar Boundary Layers with Very Large Transverse Curvature written by Jay M. Solomon and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The compressible axisymmetric laminar boundary layer is considered for very large values of the transverse curvature parameter (roughly proportional to the ratio of the Mangler value of the boundary layer displacement thickness to the local cross-sectional radius of the body). Asymptotic expansions are constructed using the method of inner-outer expansions and verified by comparison with exact numerical similarity solutions. Both finite and hypersonic Mach number inviscid flow conditions are considered. The principal results are asymptotic formulas for skin friction, heat transfer, and boundary layer displacement thickness. Existing expansions, obtained by Wei, are found to be incorrect. The viscous pressure interaction near the vertex of a pointed axisymmetric body is treated within the framework of boundary layer theory and a tangent-cone approximation. (Author).
