Book Lala Salama and Other Savasana Readings

Download or read book Lala Salama and Other Savasana Readings written by Colleen Torianne and published by . This book was released on 2017-07-18 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Lala Salama" means sweet dreams in Swahili. "Lala Salama and other Savasana Readings" is a collection of dream stories for yogis. We practiceyoga deeply, mindfully and mark the end of our sessions in a special place we call savasana. Experienced yogis often value this pose above all others, but while savasana might look as easy as the nap-time of our kindergarten years, it can be quite challenging for many of us. There's no magic off-switch for minds and bodies accustomed to ever and always achieving. When I first started practicing yoga I had neither time nor patience for savasana. As I practiced a bit more savasana became a riddle: the more I wasdetermined to get it the less I got it. Active imagination, not determination, helped me channel a busy brain to begin to allow, accept and be. I used time in savasana to let my mind wander. As I traveled in space and time, I imagined alternate realities and a certain indefinable, yet calming sense of my place in the universe began to emerge. I have always been a day dreamer and adoodler so I began putting on paper words and images inspired by my personal savasana experiences. These pages are full of the kind of hope, wonder and even naivet we may have been encouraged to give up long ago but need to nourish the child within for a healthy sense of grounding, wisdom and power.Dream with the mind and breath and body, dream big, dream in color, dreamon and off the mat. The world doesn't need more of us doing the same things in the same ways; the world needs more of us imagining new ways of doing new things. The world needs more dreamers. Namaste.

Book The Women I Think About at Night

Download or read book The Women I Think About at Night written by Mia Kankimäki and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-12-07 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this “thought-provoking blend of history, biography, women’s studies, and travelogue” (Library Journal) Mia Kankimäki recounts her enchanting travels in Japan, Kenya, and Italy while retracing the steps of ten remarkable female pioneers from history. What can a forty-something childless woman do? Bored with her life and feeling stuck, Mia Kankimäki leaves her job, sells her apartment, and decides to travel the world, following the paths of the female explorers and artists from history who have long inspired her. She flies to Tanzania and then to Kenya to see where Karen Blixen—of Out of Africa fame—lived in the 1920s. In Japan, Mia attempts to cure her depression while researching Yayoi Kusama, the contemporary artist who has voluntarily lived in a psychiatric hospital for decades. In Italy, Mia spends her days looking for the works of forgotten Renaissance women painters of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, and finally finds her heroines in the portraits of Sofonisba Anguissola, Lavinia Fontana, and Atremisia Gentileschi. If these women could make it in the world hundreds of years ago, why can’t Mia? The Women I Think About at Night is “an astute, entertaining…[and] insightful” (Publishers Weekly) exploration of the lost women adventurers of history who defied expectations in order to see—and change—the world.

Not only does this publication voice the solutions offered by 31 authors from the African continent and beyond, but it presents in a unique and highly accessible fashion the collective voice of the conference participants. True to the spirit of ubuntu - an individual is only a person through other people (their communities) - this publication is a reflection of the essence of an overarching sub-Saharan philosophy; the contents represents a conference where papers were not presented, but where conference participants engaged to discuss solutions for the musical arts on the African continent. While the individual voice has been given its rightful place, the collective voice represents an emergent song composed by the scholarly community in oral fashion.
