This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study has been carried out in Eastern Dry Zone of Karnataka which is one of the major agricultural production zone facing sever labour shortage and have scope for mechanization. The primary data for the study has been collected from the 30 CHS providers and 150 farmers. The study focused on characteristic features, farm machinery inventory available with different custom hire service (CHS) providers, economic feasibility, investment pattern, benefits in use of different CHS providers and problems faced by the farmers as well as the CHS providers in the study region. The results indicated that the government subsidized Non Governmental organization (NGO) operated CHSCs are following stringent norms in providing farm machinery services and payments towards services compared to other CHS providers in the study region. The NGO operated CHSC in Chikkaballapur had invested highest compared to other CHS providers. Irrespective of the CHS providers and region, the investment made on tillage equipments was the highest. However, the government subsidized CHSCs own maximum number farm machinery inventory compared to other CHS providers irrespective of the region. The feasible factors highlighted that all the government subsidized CHS providers are economically feasible and NGO operated CHSC in Tumkur is capable of generating higher returns. In addition, it was found that the farmers have realized 10 to 20 per cent higher returns from using custom hire services from government subsidized CHSC than other CHS providers. The non-availability of skilled labour, spare parts of farm machinery and repair and maintenance and local workshops were the major constraints faced by the CHS providers. While non-availability of machinery services in time, quality of farm operation and payment options were the major constraints faced by the farmers.
Download or read book Rural Non farm Growth written by M. Prasada Rao and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book Seeks To Test Distress Diversification Against Growth Linkages To Explain The Propensity Of Rural People To Be Involved In Rural Non-Farm Employment As A Primary Income Source. This Is Done Through (A) District Level And (B) Household Level Regressions Of The Total Proportion Of Rural Non-Farm Employment (Rnfe) And Rnfe Share By Sub-Sectors In Andhra Pradesh (Ap), India. Ap Has India S Highest, And Rising, Age/Gender-Specific And Overall Work-Force Participation Rates, Especially Female And Child. These Rates Coexist With A Rising Percentage Of Rural Workers In Agriculture (In Contrast To All-India) And With A Smaller Share Of Rnfe In The Rural Workforce Relative To All-India. These Facts Appear To Be Linked To Ap S Unemployment (Higher, Rising Faster, Than Elsewhere). The Central Hypothesis Is: There Are Two Sorts Of Rnfe, Traditional And Modern. A High Traditional Rnfe Share (And Its Growth) Is Associated With Distress Diversification. A High Modern Rnfe Share (And Its Growth) Is Associated With Rural Growth Linkages From Agriculture . Using District Level Data, The Analysis Reveals That Variations In Irrigation, Farm Size, Literacy, Urbanisation, Commercialisation, Infrastructure And Poverty Are Significantly Associated With Variations In Rnfe. Household Level Primary Data Collected For 2 Villages In 1993-94, Also Reveals That A Range Of Demographic And Economic Variables Are Associated With Inter-Household Variations In Rnfe, Some Of Which Coincide With Those Identified In The Inter-District Analysis. They Include: Farm Size, Education, Farm Output, Caste, Migration In, Seasonality, Skills, Poverty, Household Head S Age, And Family Size. Case Studies Of Individual Households Reveal That Rnfe Often Faces Financial Problems For Working Capital, Insufficient Earnings, And Inability To Cope With Technological Changes. The Data Analysis Supports The Hypothesis That Growth Linkages Are The Main Explanation For High Shares In, And The Growth Of, Modern Rnfe, And Distress Diversification For Traditional Rnfe. It Also Demonstrates A Strong, Significant Association Between Traditional Rnfe And Low Literacy And Modern Rnfe And High Literacy. Government Self-Employment Schemes As Well As The Development Of Agricultural Infrastructure, E.G. Irrigation, And Improvements In Rural Educational Standards Are Therefore Policies Likely To Accelerate The Growth Of Rnfe Shares.

Download or read book Maximization of farm net income A way of economic optimum crop planning in Karnataka written by Hamsa K.R. and published by Prem Jose. This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study aimed at designing economic crop planning consistent with natural and economic endowments, achieving resource use efficiency for Central Dry Zone (CDZ) of Karnataka. Field data were collected from 45 sample farmers each under Rainfed and Borewell irrigated conditions of CDZ of Karnataka. The extent of efficiency in resource use and allocation is reflected in the costs incurred and net returns realized by valuing inputs at market prices, economic prices and natural resource valuation. The cost of cultivation of crops indicated that, the net returns for borewell irrigated paddy were ₹ 34091/ha, ₹ 17278/ha, ₹ -26120/ha at market prices, economic prices and natural resource values, respectively. Thus, due to subsidies offered, the distortion of prices is to the tune of ₹ 16813/ha, while the distortion due to inclusion of GHGs (₹ 1899/ha) and inclusion of groundwater cost (₹ 41500/ha) is 43399/ha. The resource use efficiency of crops was estimated using Cobb- Douglas production function and results indicated that the ratio of MVP to MFC was differed from unity, in most of the crops, indicating scope for reallocation of expenditure among various resources from over used to under used resources. Economic Optimal Crop Plan for Sustainability in the region developed using linear programming technique indicated that, 40900 ha is to be allocated under borewell irrigated and 103673 ha for rainfed situation according to Economic pricing criteria. Total optimum area allocated would be 144574 ha which maximizes net returns at ₹ 73 crores for Tumakuru District in the CDZ of Karnataka.
