Book Community Noise Exposure Resulting from Aircraft Operations Technical Review

Download or read book Community Noise Exposure Resulting from Aircraft Operations Technical Review written by and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is one of a series describing the research program undertaken by the Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory to develop procedures for predicting the community noise exposure resulting from aircraft operations. It reviews current methods for predicting noise exposure around an airport, the results of various social surveys around airports, and psychoacoustic studies of aircraft noise signals, as well as effects of aircraft performance, flight path dispersion, non-standard weather effects, and other factors affecting the accuracy and variability in predicting aircraft noise exposure on the ground. These reviews and analyses are used to recommend a revised procedure for predicting noise around air bases.

Book Community Noise Exposure Resulting from Aircraft Operations Acquisition and Analysis of Aircraft Noise and Performance Data

Download or read book Community Noise Exposure Resulting from Aircraft Operations Acquisition and Analysis of Aircraft Noise and Performance Data written by Dwight E. Bishop and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is one of a series describing the research program undertaken by the Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory to develop procedures for predicting community noise exposure resulting from aircraft operations. This report outlines the acoustic measurement test conditions, the acoustic data reduction and interpretation procedures, and the type of aircraft performance information needed to obtain a noise data file for predicting the noise produced by aircraft operations. The procedures result in the descriptions of the noise of an aircraft in terms of the effective perceived noise level, the sound exposure level and several other noise measures. Level flight measurements and static engine noise tests are described, and are applicable to conventional fixed wing aircraft and helicopters.

Book The Effects of Noise on Man

Download or read book The Effects of Noise on Man written by Karl D. Kryter and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Effects of Noise on Man covers the techniques for the evaluation of environmental noise in terms of its effects on human. The book provides the fundamental definitions of sound, its measurement, and concepts of the basic functioning, and the attributes of the auditory system. The text also presents along with their experimental basis, procedures for estimating from physical measures of noise its effects on man's auditory system and speech communications. The last part of the book is devoted to man's nonauditory system responses and includes information about the effects of noise on work performance, sleep, feelings of pain, vision, and blood circulation.

Book A New Field laboratory Methodology for Assessing Human Response to Noise

Download or read book A New Field laboratory Methodology for Assessing Human Response to Noise written by Paul N. Borsky and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gross measures of community annoyance with intrusive noises have been made in a number of real environment surveys which indicate that aircraft noise may have to be reduced 30-40 EPNdb before it will generally be considered acceptable. Interview studies, however, cannot provide the precise information which is needed by noise abatement engineers of the variable human response to different types and degrees of noise exposure. A new methodological field-survey approach has been developed to provide such information. The integrated attitudes and experiences of a random sample of subjects in the real environment are obtained by a prior field survey. Then these subjects record their more precise responses to controlled noise exposures in a new realistic laboratory. The laboratory is a sound chamber furnished as a typical living room (18 ft x 14 ft) and subjects watch a color TV program while they judge simulated aircraft flyovers that occur at controlled levels and intervals. Methodological experiments indicate that subjects in the laboratory have the sensation that the airplanes are actually moving overhead across the ceiling of the chamber. It was also determined that annoyance judgments in the laboratory stabilize after three flyovers are heard prior to a judgment of annoyance.
