Download or read book The Labor Force in Economic Development written by John Dana Durand and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-03-08 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores growth and structural change in the labor force that accompany economic development. It reports on labor force characteristics in one hundred countries around the world, a project of the Population Studies Center at the University of Pennsylvania. Based on a world-wide compilation of labor force and population statistics of censuses taken during 1946-1966, it presents previously inaccessible data on sex and age patterns of participation in economic activities, the size of the labor force in proportion to population, and changes in these areas associated with economic development. Patterns related to the level and speed of development, the structure of employment, urbanization, and age structure of population are defined. Conclusions are offered with regard to changing participation by women, young people, and the elderly. Originally published in 1976. Download or read book Feminism and Gender Research in Japan written by Diane Elson and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-10-20 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a large gap between Japan’s ranking on indicators of economic development and on indicators of gender equality. This book helps us to understand why. The chapters in this volume illuminate important dimensions of gender inequality in Japan – in relation to class, and in comparison to other countries. The book considers the relation of gender inequality to neoliberal policies, and the implications of gender inequality for social reproduction. It demonstrates the ways in which leading Japanese scholars are debating and analysing these issues, in dialogue with feminist economists from Mexico and UK. The chapters in this book were originally published in The Japanese Political Economy.
