Yo mismo, como individuo, he iniciado y continúo en un proceso de aprendizaje que me ha llevado a comprender mejor la inmensa complejidad que es la violencia de género, sus efectos en las víctimas, y cómo desde mi profesión es imprescindible la formación y la sensibilización en este tema, transversal a la práctica de la psicología.El mayor impacto de la violencia de género sobre la salud es en la salud mental de sus víctimas. Se estima que tres de cada cinco mujeres expuestas presentan patologías psíquicas, y el tratamiento psiquiátrico es cinco veces más frecuentes en mujeres maltratadas que en la población general. El estrés postraumático, los trastornos depresivos o de ansiedad son los principales trastornos que presentan las víctimas de violencia de género.Por tanto, el hecho de no contar con una permanente formación en este ámbito perjudica, primeramente, a las víctimas, por supuesto. Publicaciones como la que tiene entre sus manos vienen a cubrir esta importante necesidad y son recursos imprescindibles para crecer como profesionales, y de este modo prestar una mejor atención desde nuestra práctica.La violencia de género es protagonista a menudo de los espacios informativos, tanto por los lamentables sucesos que nos conmueven, como por los distintos responsables públicos implicados en articular los mecanismos para prevenir este grave problema social, acompañar a las personas afectadas, proteger a sus víctimas y reparar los daños provocados por la situación. Siempre que escucho esos discursos, o yo mismo cuando debo reflexionar sobre este ámbito desde la psicología, la amada profesión que tengo el orgullo de representar, detrás de las estadísticas, las cifras y los datos, vienen a mi memoria los rostros concretos. Las historias de cada una de las mujeres que han relatado el inmenso sufrimiento que han padecido. La dificultad del proceso de salir de ello, los enormes fallos que todavía se encuentran en la respuesta institucional que debería protegerlas.Y la ausencia de la prevención. Porque es imprescindible trabajar en el afrontamiento de la violencia de género, por supuesto, y dar la mejor respuesta profesional posible, pero no podemos permitirnos llegar tarde a más mujeres, a más niños, niñas y adolescentes que tienen derecho a vivir una vida libre de violencia. No pueden formar parte de la cotidianeidad de nuestro paisaje hechos como una mujer asesinada por su pareja o expareja, como parece que está pasando, y que solo aquellos crímenes especialmente violentos o truculentos vuelvan a sacudirnos como sociedad.Para que estos crímenes y, en general, la violencia machista, sean un asunto del pasado, debemos insistir en la prevención, en la educación de las generaciones más jóvenes. Niños y niñas en los que los valores de la igualdad, el respeto, la libertad, formen parte de su educación y consigamos romper con los estereotipos de género y los roles atribuidos que perpetúan la desigualdad entre hombres y mujeres y que forman parte de nuestra socialización. Un papel en el que la psicología es esencial y que, como ciencia experta en la conducta humana, tiene mucho que aportar.En la Macroencuesta de Violencia contra la Mujer de 2019, que elabora la Delegación del Gobierno contra la Violencia de Género publicada en 2020, vemos que la violencia contra las mujeres continúa en unas cifras altísimas y que, por lo tanto, debe ser una prioridad en las políticas públicas.Esta encuesta arrojaba un dato escalofriante: el 57,3% de las mujeres mayores de16 años que viven en España, más de la mitad, han sufrido algún tipo de violencia por ser mujeres: desde una mirada lasciva, hasta acoso, una agresión sexual o violencia en la pareja. Un 21,5% de las mujeres mayores de 16 años dicen que han sufrido violencia física a lo largo de su vida. Un 13,7% refiere haber sufrido algún tipo de violencia sexual. Y un 6,5% dice que la ha sufrido fuera de la pareja: son más de un millón trescientas mil mujeres, y más de la mitad, antes de los 15 años, por tanto, cuando son niñas. Hay más de 450.000 mujeres en España que han sufrido una violación a día de hoy. Y no podemos olvidar que el hecho de sufrir una violación multiplica por seis el riesgo de tener pensamientos suicidas.Esta es la prevalencia revelada, pero desde la Delegación del Gobierno reconocen que muchas mujeres se quedan fuera, por ejemplo, aquellas más traumatizadas que no son capaces de verbalizarlo. Además, esta Macroencuesta nos da el sobrecogedor dato de que 1.678.959 niños, niñas y adolescentes hoy están viviendo en hogares en los que hay violencia psicológica, física o sexual. Y un 90% de las mujeres víctimas de violencia afirma que sus hijos e hijas menores han presenciado episodios de violencia y, de hecho, la mitad recibieron también violencia por parte del mismo agresor. Por lo tanto, no es un riesgo únicamente para las mujeres, sino que también lo es para sus hijos e hijas menores.Debemos, por tanto, situar la relevancia que tiene la violencia de género como problema social. Tiene que estar garantizado el acompañamiento y la protección a estas mujeres, por supuesto, la atención psicológica. Y poner en marcha los mecanismos para erradicar, en la definición que implica eliminar de raíz, la violencia contra las mujeres a través del trabajo preventivo y educativo. Y ojalá, de este modo, podamos celebrar la superación de este grave problema social y nuestra sociedad sea más justa, más libre, más igualitaria, para todos y todas.
