Book Building an Emergency Plan

Download or read book Building an Emergency Plan written by and published by Getty Publications. This book was released on 2000-02-03 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building an Emergency Plan provides a step-by-step guide that a cultural institution can follow to develop its own emergency preparedness and response strategy. This workbook is divided into three parts that address the three groups generally responsible for developing and implementing emergency procedures—institution directors, emergency preparedness managers, and departmental team leaders—and discuss the role each should play in devising and maintaining an effective emergency plan. Several chapters detail the practical aspects of communication, training, and forming teams to handle the safety of staff and visitors, collections, buildings, and records. Emergencies covered include natural events such as earthquakes or floods, as well as human-caused emergencies, such as fires that occur during renovation. Examples from the Barbados Museum and Historical Society, the Museo de Arte Popular Americano in Chile, the Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut, and the Seattle Art Museum show how cultural institutions have prepared for emergencies relevant to their sites, collections, and regions.

Book Truth Matters

  • Author : John G. Trapani
  • Publisher : CUA Press
  • Release : 2004
  • ISBN : 9780966922660
  • Pages : 334 pages

Download or read book Truth Matters written by John G. Trapani and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing upon the richness and breadth of Jacques Maritain's thought, the contributors to this volume engage readers with philosophical essays about the search for truth in human life and civic engagement. The essays examine a broad range of topics, from those that are more properly theoretical, such as God, science, natural law, practical reason, education, and democracy, to those that are more practical, such as capital punishment, eugenics, friendship, love, and art. In each essay, the author implicitly challenges the claims of relativism and postmodernism, specifically the idea that there is no "real" truth and that what matters is merely the perspective of one's own frame of reference. The essays argue instead that theoretical truth-claims have practical consequences, that truth matters to those who are affected by it. In addition to the editor, the contributors are: Gavin T. Colvert, John A. D. Cuddeback, Raymond Dennehy, Bernard E. Doering, Desmond J. FitzGerald, Sarah J. Fodor, William J. Fossati, W. Matthews Grant, James G. Hanink, Katie Hollenberg, Gregory Kerr, James P. Mesa, Peter Pagan, Matthew S. Pugh, James V. Schall, S.J., Michael D. Torre, John R. Traffas, Cornelia A. Tsakiridou, Timothy S. Valentine, S.J., A. Leo White, Anne M. Wiles, and Henk E. S. Woldring. John G. Trapani, Jr., is Professor of Philosophy and Chair of the Humanities Division at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio.

Book Beyond Learning

    Book Details:
  • Author : Gert J. J. Biesta
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2015-11-17
  • ISBN : 1317263154
  • Pages : 176 pages

Download or read book Beyond Learning written by Gert J. J. Biesta and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-11-17 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many educational practices are based upon ideas about what it means to be human. Thus education is conceived as the production of particular subjectivities and identities such as the rational person, the autonomous individual, or the democratic citizen. Beyond Learning asks what might happen to the ways in which we educate if we treat the question as to what it means to be human as a radically open question; a question that can only be answered by engaging in education rather than as a question that needs to be answered before we can educate. The book provides a different way to understand and approach education, one that focuses on the ways in which human beings come into the world as unique individuals through responsible responses to what and who is other and different. Beyond Learning raises important questions about pedagogy, community and educational responsibility, and helps educators of children and adults alike to understand what a commitment to a truly democratic education entails.

Book Past Im Perfect Continuous

Download or read book Past Im Perfect Continuous written by Alice Balestrino and published by Sapienza Università Editrice. This book was released on 2021-06-25 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Past (Im)perfect Continuous. Trans-Cultural Articulations of the Postmemory of WWII presents an international and interdisciplinary approach to the comprehension of the postmemory of WWII, accounting for a number of different intellectual trajectories that investigate WWII and the Holocaust as paradigms for other traumas within a global and multidirectional context. Indeed, by exceeding the geographical boundaries of nations and states and overcoming contextual specificities, postmemory foregrounds continuous, active, connective, transcultural, and always imperfect representations of violence that engage with the alterity of other histories and other subjects. 75 years after the end of WWII, this volume is primarily concerned with the convergence between postmemory and underexamined aspects of the history and aftermath of WWII, as well as with several sociopolitical anxieties and representational preoccupations. Drawing from different disciplines, the critical and visual works gathered in this volume interrogate the referential power of postmemory, considering its transcultural interplay with various forms, media, frames of reference, conceptual registers, and narrative structures.
