Book Propagation d ondes accoustiques et lastiques

Download or read book Propagation d ondes accoustiques et lastiques written by BRAC Jean and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2012-05-02 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Mechanical Behavior of Anisotropic Solids Comportment M chanique des Solides Anisotropes

Download or read book Mechanical Behavior of Anisotropic Solids Comportment M chanique des Solides Anisotropes written by J.P. Boehler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 926 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1978, the European Mechanics Committee and the French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique agreed to the organization of an Interna tional Colloquium on the "Mechanical Behavior of Anisotropic Solids". The meeting was held at Villard-de-Lans (near Grenoble, France) from 19th to 22 nd June 1979. The Colloquium considered mechanical aspects of the anisotropy of solids, both initial and induced by permanent deformation, anisotropic hardening and damage, oriented fissuration, etc. Topics concerned mathematical, experimental and engineering aspects of the anisotropy of metals, composites, soils and rocks. The aim of the Colloquium was to bring together experimentalists, theoretecians and engineers interested in various features of mechanical anisotropy, in order to permit an interdisciplinary exchange of understanding, experience and methods. A detailed description of the scope, aim and proposed topics is contained in the Preface. The announcement of the Colloquium attracted a large number of sub mitted contributions. Conforming with the principles of Euromech Colloquia and of the Colloques Internationaux du CNRS, the accepted contributions were limited to 50 communications. A general description of the scientific program is to be found in the Preface. Five general lectures gave state-of-the-art reports concerning some areas of the behavior of anisotropic solids; the 50 communications were divided into 12 sessions dealing with specific topics (see "Contents"). In order to facilitate subsequent contact between the reader and the contributors, full addresses are given in the "List of Authors."

Book Tropospheric Radiowave Propagation Beyond the Horizon

Download or read book Tropospheric Radiowave Propagation Beyond the Horizon written by François Du Castel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-04-27 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tropospheric Radiowave Propagation Beyond the Horizon deals with developments concerning the tropospheric propagation of ultra-short radio waves beyond the horizon, with emphasis on the relationship between the theoretical and the experimental. Topics covered include the general conditions of propagation in the troposphere; general characteristics of propagation beyond the horizon; and attenuation in propagation. This volume is comprised of six chapters and begins with a brief historical look at the various stages that have brought the technique of transhorizon links to its state of development. The discussion then turns to the physical properties of the troposphere and the phenomenon of tropospheric propagation; influence of the troposphere and the Earth on transhorizon propagation; and theoretical and experimental determination of attenuation in propagation. Experimental data relating to transhorizon propagation are presented. Theories of diffraction and turbulent scattering are described. This book will be helpful to physicists and physics students as well as those who are engaged in the problem of long-range telecommunication and in the interdependence of theory and experience.

Book Uneasy Genius The Life And Work Of Pierre Duhem

Download or read book Uneasy Genius The Life And Work Of Pierre Duhem written by St.L. Jaki and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A hundred years have now gone by since in the midsummer of 1882 Pierre Duhem, a graduate of College Stanislas, completed with brilliant success his entrance exams to the Ecole Normale Superieure and embarked on his career as a theoretical physicist. His father, a textile salesman, hoped that Hierre would pursue a career in business, one of the few professional fields where perhaps he would not have succeeded. Not that young Duhem lacked sense for the practical. He could have easily made a name for himself as an artist had he developed professionally his skill to draw portraits and landscapes. His ability to make a point and his readiness to join in a debate, could have earned him fame as a lawyer. A potential actor was in sight when he entertained friends with mimicry. That as a student of physics he entered and stayed first in his class at the Ecole Normale, did not thwart his talents for the life sciences. No less a biologist than Pasteur tried to obtain Duhem for assistant. His command of Greek and Latin would have secured him a career as a classicist. He was a Frenchman, not to be met too often, whose rightful ad miration for and mastery of his native tongue, did not prove a barrier to the major modern languages. As one who taught himself the complex art of medieval paleo graphy, he could easily have mastered the many auxiliary sciences needed by a consummate historian.

This book was released on 2012-04-16 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Wave Propagation in Dissipative Materials

Download or read book Wave Propagation in Dissipative Materials written by B.D. Coleman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Common experience reveals two basic aspects of wave propagation. First, while preserving their identity and travelling at definite speeds, sounds finally die out. Second, weak sounds may combine to form strong noises. Theories of acoustic propagation have succeeded in representing these aspects of experience separately, but never combined as in nature. The classical theories of sound in perfect fluids and elastic solids easily yield common speeds of propagation for plane infinitesimal disturbances, but no damping. Moreover, within EULER'S theory of the perfect fluid, or its generalization, the GREEN-KIRCHHOFF-KELVIN theory of finite elasticity, weak waves may grow stronger and become shock waves, which propagate according to more complicated but equally definite principles. Effects of internal damping are easily added for theories of infinitesimal deformation, but for finite motions a dead end was reached about sixty years ago. Indeed, in 1901 DUHEM proved that according to the NAVIER-STOKES theory of fluids acceleration waves and waves of higher order cannot exist, and for shock waves he claimed a similar result, which has since been shown to be valid subject to certain qualifications. So as to save the phenomena of sound and noise, as was necessary if the NAVIER-STOKES theory was to deserve the place proposed for it as a refinement upon EULER'S theory, DUHEM introduced the concept of "quasi-wave", a region of rapid but continuous transition.
