Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Join a cold-case detective as he uncovers the truth about Jesus using the same approach he employs to solve real murder cases. Detective J. Warner Wallace was skeptical of the Bible's claims about Jesus. But he'd investigated several no-body homicide cases in which there was no crime scene, no physical evidence, and no victim's body. He wondered if the truth about the historical Jesus could be investigated in the same way. In Person of Interest, cold-case detective and bestselling author J. Warner Wallace describes his own personal investigative journey from atheism to Christianity as he carefully sifts through the evidence from history alone, without relying on the New Testament. In this book, you'll: Understand like never before how Jesus—the most significant person in history—changed the world and why he still matters today. Learn how to think like a cold-case detective by using an innovative and unique "fuse and fallout" investigative strategy, which you can also use to examine other claims of history. Explore and learn how to respond to common objections to Christianity. Creative, compelling, and fully illustrated, Person of Interest will strengthen the faith of believers while engaging those who are skeptical and distrusting of the New Testament gospel accounts.

Book excerpt: Jess is a hard working, fifty year old modern day cowboy, a bachelor who wants to make his life more meaningful in some way. In disagreement with, and embarrassed by the attitudes of a few of today's ranchers and other users of our public lands towards the environment, he finally makes a stand against his anti-environmental employer. Living alone in a cow camp in northern Nevada, Jess recalls incidents and acquaintances from his past as he tries to come to grips with his fear that he has wasted his life working on horseback and taking care of livestock. In this lonely and isolated cow camp, he recalls some of the outrageous acts of disregard for public lands and wildlife that he has witnessed over the years. When his boss tries to cheat on his grazing lease, Jess's act of defiance produces surprising results. The author describes the daily life of the present day working cowboy in a way that lends genuine, true to life authenticity to the story.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interpreting Jesus draws on traditional teaching and the best scripture scholarship to construct a Christology which centers on the crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus. The aim is to explore and clarify what Christian belief in the risen Jesus as Son of God and Savior of the world originally meant and now continues to mean. Special features include an excursus on the theological implications of the Shroud of Turin and a return to a theme which contemporary Christology has widely neglected, the blood of Jesus and its redemptive symbolism. The book ends by linking belief in Jesus with the non-Christian world. Father O'Collins has previously written many articles and shorter works on Jesus Christ. This Christology represents a mature climax of those earlier publications.

Book excerpt: Portraying themselves as challenging blind religious dogma with evidence-led skepticism, the neo-atheist movement claims that the New Testament contains unreliable tales about a mythical figure who, far from being the resurrected Lord of life, may not even have lived. This comprehensive critique documents the falsehood of these neo-atheist claims, correcting their historical and philosophical mistakes to show how we can get at the truth about the historical Jesus.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "What Would Jesus Do?" is a popular phrase in Christian circles, but answers to that question might be more on-target if we spent more time exploring, as Scott Spencer has, "What Did Jesus Do?" Spencer examines both the Synoptics and the Gospel of John as he tries to catch a wide-angled vision of Jesus' behavior in the gospels. Rather than focus on sayings or pronouncements as an authoritative code of conduct, he studies Jesus' deeds or actions as keys to his identity and vocation. While not ignoring Jesus' teaching, this study is more interested in discovering how Jesus personally lived up to his own moral instruction -- his personal conduct. Chapters are devoted to Jesus' actions with respect to his family, his friends, his body, his possessions, his work, his reputation, and the environment. Spencer suggests paths -- and pitfalls -- for relating Jesus' personal conduct to individual behavior, how we might move from "what Jesus did" in the New Testament to "what we should do" today. F. Scott Spencer is Professor of New Testament at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, Virginia and is the author of The Portrait of Philip in Acts: A Study of Roles and Relations and Acts. He is the Chair of the New Testament section for the Southeastern Commission for the Study of Religion.
