En tant qu'Etat cotier, la Mauritanie s'engage, depuis son indépendance en 1960, dans un processus visant à mettre en place une réglementation de la pêche conformément aux évolutions du droit international en la matière. Par sa pratique et ses legislations, elle illustre comment l'Etat cotier non développé peut concilier : gestion de ses ressources maritimes et respect du droit international de la pêche.
