Book La fisica raccontata ai ragazzi

Download or read book La fisica raccontata ai ragazzi written by Anna Parisi and published by Salani. This book was released on 2022-05-19T00:00:00+02:00 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: ONE OF TIME MAGAZINE’S 100 BEST YA BOOKS OF ALL TIME • NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER A modern-day classic from Newbery Medalist Jerry Spinelli, this beloved celebration of individuality is now an original movie on Disney+! And don't miss the author's highly anticipated new novel, Dead Wednesday! Stargirl. From the day she arrives at quiet Mica High in a burst of color and sound, the hallways hum with the murmur of “Stargirl, Stargirl.” She captures Leo Borlock’ s heart with just one smile. She sparks a school-spirit revolution with just one cheer. The students of Mica High are enchanted. At first. Then they turn on her. Stargirl is suddenly shunned for everything that makes her different, and Leo, panicked and desperate with love, urges her to become the very thing that can destroy her: normal. In this celebration of nonconformity, Newbery Medalist Jerry Spinelli weaves a tense, emotional tale about the perils of popularity and the thrill and inspiration of first love. Don’t miss the sequel, Love, Stargirl, as well as The Warden’s Daughter, a novel about another girl who can't help but stand out. “Spinelli is a poet of the prepubescent. . . . No writer guides his young characters, and his readers, past these pitfalls and challenges and toward their futures with more compassion.” —The New York Times

Book Italian Children s Literature and National Identity

Download or read book Italian Children s Literature and National Identity written by Maria Truglio and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-20 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book bridges the fields of Children’s Literature and Italian Studies by examining how turn-of-the-century children’s books forged a unified national identity for the new Italian State. Through contextualized close readings of a wide range of texts, Truglio shows how the 19th-century concept of recapitulation, which held that ontogeny (the individual’s development) repeats phylogeny (the evolution of the species), underlies the strategies of this corpus. Italian fairy tales, novels, poems, and short stories imply that the personal development of the child corresponds to and hence naturalizes the modernizing development of the nation. In the context of Italy’s uneven and ambivalent modernization, these narrative trajectories are enabled by a developmental melancholia. Using a psychoanalytic lens, and in dialogue with recent Anglophone Children’s Literature criticism, this study proposes that national identity was constructed via a process of renouncing and incorporating paternal and maternal figures, rendered as compulsory steps into maturity and modernity. With chapters on the heroic figure of Garibaldi, the Orientalized depiction of the South, and the role of girls in formation narratives, this book discloses how melancholic itineraries produced gendered national subjects. This study engages both well-known Italian texts, such as Collodi’s The Adventures of Pinocchio and De Amicis’ Heart, and books that have fallen into obscurity by authors such as Baccini, Treves, Gianelli, and Nuccio. Its approach and corpus shed light on questions being examined by Italianists, Children’s Literature scholars, and social and cultural historians with an interest in national identity formation.

Book La mia scuola in Sudafrica

Download or read book La mia scuola in Sudafrica written by Mark O'Doherty and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-09-22 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear All, All governments in the International Community have a moral and legal obligation to protect and safeguard the UN Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). This includes the reproductive rights of women and their right of shaping their gender role in society and family relations. A very important ethical aspect concerning the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is that children are not asked whether they want to be born or not; they simply come into this world without being asked. Hence politicians and parents in Africa have to take extra special care that the necessary resources are available concerning children; to uphold the UNCRC. With the global population still increasing by an estimated 80 million people per year, the International Community needs to make a greater effort to implement effective family planning in the world. Especially in developing countries it is often not the woman's choice if she has children. Traditional survival patterns often dictate women to give birth to as many children as they possibly can. The global population has grown from 1 billion in 1800 to 7.8 billion in 2020. It is expected to keep growing, and estimates have put the total population at 8.6 billion by mid-2030, 9.8 billion by mid-2050 and 11.2 billion by 2100. Many nations with rapid population growth have low standards of living, whereas many nations with low rates of population growth have high standards of living. Hence it is imperative to counteract overpopulation, poverty, inequality and forced migration in the world; by implementing effective family planning. Also, a mind-set change is required concerning the ethics of political economy, population and social cohesion - especially by politicians and economists. In particular, how a reduction of population in society can be transformed into an asset - such as greater harmony and happiness in society - due to less competition for space, resources and jobs; and thereby avoiding the rat race. Furthermore, to improve family planning, a Basic Income Guarantee (BIG) must be implemented in the world, so that people can educate themselves about contraceptive methods and obtain them. As in a world where there are no guarantees and as citizens who must be under government rule, we should at least be assured that we will be able to feed, clothe and handle the simplest needs of human beings.
