Tan sólo esa última obra juvenil (El prisionero de Zenda) se reimprime continuamente en España, estando olvidadas otras suyas de más enjundia, como este El espejo del rey, que el novelista tenía por la mejor suya. Anthony Hope Nació el 9 de febrero de 1863 en Londres. Estudió en la Universidad de Cambridge y ejerció la abogacía de 1887 a 1894. Su primera obra fue A Man of Mark (1890). Dedicó toda su vida a la actividad de escritor, que se vio coronada por un gran éxito y le valió, entre otros honores, la concesión del título nobiliario de Sir en 1918. Pronto se hizo famoso con la publicación, en 1894, de El prisionero de Zenda, que gozó de un inmenso favor popular. Y pocas semanas después de la publicación de tal obra, Anthony Hope logró renovar su extraordinario éxito con The Dolly Dialogues Algunas de sus obras fueron llevadas al cine. Falleció en 1933.

Aqui se deixa o retrato de um tal encontro, tanto quanto possível fiel ao que foram, na altura, as exposições dos diferentes autores. In conjunction with a broad commemorative movement in Europe and America, the Institute for Philosophical Studies, based at the Faculty of Letters, University of Coimbra, in collaboration with the R&D unit L.I.F. – Language, Interpretation and Philosophy and with the “Centre for Philosophy” of the University of Lisbon organized on 19th and 20th November 2007 an international conference commemorating the 200th anniversary of Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit (first published in 1807). On the occasion of this conference, the Portuguese philosophical community had the opportunity to come up against some of the most recent orientation in the analysis of this philosopher’s oeuvre, putting itself to the test as regards its analytical skills. This volume offers a picture of that encounter, as faithful as possible to what were, at the time, the papers offered by/expositions of the various authors.

Schopenhauer criou a Escola Pessimista, com o propósito de demonstrar que este é o pior dos mundos possíveis, e, por isso, para o homem seria melhor não ter nascido. Suas ideias influenciaram Nietzsche, Wagner, Tolstói, Zola, Kafka, Anatole France, Guy de Maupassant e Thomas Mann, entre muitos outros. No Brasil, inspirou Machado de Assis na obra Memórias póstumas de Brás Cubas. Em Freud, percebe-se também sua influência, inclusive com grande relevância no que diz respeito à teoria do inconsciente e à sexualidade. Segundo o psicanalista, Schopenhauer foi o primeiro filósofo a tratar da sexualidade humana. Soñamos, no solo en la fase de sueño MOR (movimientos oculares rápidos), sino también en todas las demás fases del dormir. Una crítica a esta posición de sueño MOR igual a ensoñación se apunta en el libro.
