Questo elaborato teorico, tesi conclusiva del percorso di Specializzazione per le Attività di Sostegno didattico agli Alunni con Disabilità per la Scuola Secondaria di Secondo grado, presenta la didattica laboratoriale rintracciandone sia i riferimenti teorici, sia il ruolo che può svolgere per favorire l'inclusione a scuola. Si sofferma, anche, sulla prospettiva inaugurata dall’OMS che guarda alla disabilità come ad una condizione di salute in un ambiente sfavorevole. Sottolinea, inoltre, l’importanza, per chi svolge il ruolo di insegnante specializzato per le attività di sostegno agli alunni con disabilità, sia di progettare contesti e attività all'interno del contesto scolastico rivolte all’intera classe, sia di una continua riflessione su di sé, sulla propria esperienza di insegnamento/apprendimento e, quindi, di una formazione e auto-formazione continua, di un insegnamento vissuto e portato avanti come ricerca e sperimentazione. Il lavoro è stato presentato e discusso all'Università di Padova alla conclusione dell'Anno Accademico 2014-2015.

Book excerpt: Si vuole iniziare questo excursus affrontando una problematica molto diffusa che si incrocia fortemente con le logiche discriminatorie che si tenta di avversare. Apprendimento e competenze nelle metodologie didattiche innovative: i laboratori inclusivi Le metodologie didattiche più innovative sottolineano la centralità dell'apprendimento personale e dell'aiuto reciproco per valorizzare le competenze di ciascuno. Negli ultimi decenni la vita scolastica è cambiata profondamente. Da una parte le innovazioni tecnologiche hanno consentito lo sviluppo di strumenti, tecniche e strategie del tutto inedite e, con esse, la predisposizione di nuovi ambienti di apprendimento, plurali e flessibili. Dall'altra, i processi di globalizzazione ed i crescenti flussi migratori hanno determinato una popolazione scolastica eterogenea, portatrice di culture e valori plurimi. Da tempo ormai l'Unione Europea sta promuovendo l'adozione stili educativi volti a formare competenze spendibili nella complessità di un mondo continuamente cangiante. La scuola è chiamata ad interpretare tutto ciò, a diventare laboratorio di formazione, contesto in cui più che trasmettere conoscenze si crei supporto verso la formazione di una cittadinanza attiva. Al centro di essa non è più l'insegnamento ma l'apprendimento. Non più le conoscenze, il sapere, ma il saper fare, il sapere agito, che renda capaci di comprendere i costanti cambiamenti e di muoversi agevolmente in essi. La scuola, affermano le recenti Indicazioni Nazionali per il curricolo, deve promuovere lo sviluppo di competenze da spendere nel mondo reale. Il lavoro del docente è perciò cambiato: da esperto che dispensa conoscenze è diventato guida, facilitatore, supporto per un apprendimento autonomo, nella costruzione attiva della conoscenza da parte degli allievi. Non solo: l'attenzione si è sempre più concentrata sulla diversità umana, sui bisogni formativi di ciascuno, sui personali stili di apprendimento e di pensiero. La scuola deve perciò divenire flessibile, comprendere, valorizzare e adeguarsi alle differenze. Solo rispondendo adeguatamente ai diversi bisogni essa può diventare davvero inclusiva e le tante buone intenzioni possono concretamente divenire buone prassi, in termini di individualizzazione e personalizzazione dei processi di insegnamento/apprendimento. Una scuola per tutti e per ciascuno. Se al centro dell'azione didattica non è più il lavoro del docente ma quello degli allievi, le metodologie d'insegnamento dovranno prevedere strumenti, tecniche e strategie focalizzate su di essi e dovranno rendersi flessibili e ricche, in modo da contenere le proposte più adeguate per ciascun allievo, affinché possa seguire le vie più agibili verso il proprio apprendimento. Ben vengano dunque le attività diversificate, i laboratori didattici, gli ambienti di apprendimento costruiti con il supporto delle tecnologie informatiche, i prodotti didattici multimediali, interattivi, ricchi di possibilità di accesso e rielaborazione. E, con essi, i lavori di gruppo, l'Apprendimento cooperativo, la ricerca responsabile per la crescita della comunità scolastica in apprendimento, lo scambio e la condivisione di contenuti e conoscenze, la messa a disposizione di abilità diverse, di competenze maturate, a supporto dell'apprendimento altrui e per il rafforzamento del proprio. Ciascun allievo è interno ad un processo e si sforza in esso nei termini delle proprie possibilità per costruire conoscenza insieme agli altri. Ciascuno è al tempo stesso artefice, responsabile del proprio apprendimento e supporto per i compagni, aiuta l'altro nelle difficoltà e viene da quest'ultimo aiutato nelle proprie (peer tutoring).

Le attività realizzate hanno puntato alla costruzione di un ambiente in grado di favorire la socializzazione tra i partecipanti e contribuire, attraverso esercizi motori, giochi e attività motorio-sportive, al coinvolgimento dell’intero gruppo classe, a far emergere potenzialità e abilità in tutti gli studenti, ad educare ai valori dell’accettazione e del rispetto delle diversità, della cooperazione e della solidarietà. Il laboratorio è stato parte integrate del Corso di Specializzazione per le Attività di Sostegno didattico agli alunni con disabilità presso l'Università degli Studi di Padova (anno accademico 2014/2015) e costituisce il completamento di un percorso di riflessione e condivisione già avviato con la pubblicazione dell'e-book “La didattica laboratoriale. Una strategia per promuovere l'inclusione”.

A riguardo, il tirocinio (diretto e indiretto) previsto dal Decreto Ministeriale 30 settembre 2011 che ha definito i criteri e le modalità per lo svolgimento dei corsi di formazione per il conseguimento della specializzazione per le attività di sostegno gioca un ruolo decisivo in quanto i corsisti e le corsiste hanno modo di confrontarsi con docenti esperti/e sulle competenze metodologiche necessarie e sui modelli culturali che animano le istituzioni scolastiche. In tal senso, il corso di formazione per il conseguimento della specializzazione per le attività di sostegno diviene anche occasione per ripensare il background degli specializzandi e delle specializzande i/le quali talvolta faticano ad abbandonare atteggiamenti pregiudizievoli e stereotipati circa la disabilità, il genere femminile e la provenienza da un Paese diverso dal proprio. The provision of knowledge, once a primary role of educators, is now devolved to an immense web of free and readily accessible sources. Consequently, educators need to redefine their role not just “from sage on the stage to guide on the side” but, as more and more voices insist, as “designers for learning”. The call for such a repositioning of educators is heard from leaders in the field of technology-enhanced learning (TEL) and resonates well with the growing culture of design-based research in Education. However, it is still struggling to find a foothold in educational practice. We contend that the root causes of this discrepancy are the lack of articulation of design practices and methods, along with a shortage of tools and representations to support such practices, a lack of a culture of teacher-as-designer among practitioners, and insufficient theoretical development. The Art and Science of Learning Design (ASLD) explores the frameworks, methods, and tools available for teachers, technologists and researchers interested in designing for learning Learning Design theories arising from findings of research are explored, drawing upon research and practitioner experiences. It then surveys current trends in the practices, methods, and methodologies of Learning Design. Highlighting the translation of theory into practice, this book showcases some of the latest tools that support the learning design process itself.

Book excerpt: Superdiversity explores processes of diversification and the complex, emergent social configurations that now supersede prior forms of diversity in societies around the world. Migration plays a key role in these processes, bringing changes not just in social, cultural, religious, and linguistic phenomena, but also in the ways that these phenomena combine with others like gender, age, and legal status. The concept of superdiversity has been adopted by scholars across the social sciences in order to address a variety of forms, modes, and outcomes of diversification. Central to this field is the relationship between social categorization and social organization, including stratification and inequality. Increasingly complex categories of social “difference” have significant impacts across scales, from entire societies to individual identities. While diversification is often met with simplifying stereotypes, threat narratives, and expressions of antagonism, superdiversity encourages a perspective on difference as comprising multiple social processes, flexible collective meanings, and overlapping personal and group identities. A superdiversity approach encourages the re-evaluation and recognition of social categories as multidimensional, unfixed, and porous as opposed to views based on hardened, one-dimensional thinking about groups. Diversification and increasing social complexity are bound to continue, if not intensify, in light of climate change. This will have profound impacts on the nature of global migration, social relations, and inequalities. Superdiversity presents a convincing case for recognizing new social formations created by changing migration patterns and calls for a re-thinking of public policy and social scientific approaches to social difference. This introduction to the multidisciplinary concept of superdiversity will be of considerable interest to students and researchers in a range of fields in the humanities and social sciences. They are used to evaluate schools, to assign students to tracks within schools, and to identify weaknesses in student knowledge. The GED is an achievement test used to grant the status of high school graduate to anyone who passes it. GED recipients currently account for 12 percent of all high school credentials issued each year in the United States. But do achievement tests predict success in life? The Myth of Achievement Tests shows that achievement tests like the GED fail to measure important life skills. James J. Heckman, John Eric Humphries, Tim Kautz, and a group of scholars offer an in-depth exploration of how the GED came to be used throughout the United States and why our reliance on it is dangerous. Drawing on decades of research, the authors show that, while GED recipients score as well on achievement tests as high school graduates who do not enroll in college, high school graduates vastly outperform GED recipients in terms of their earnings, employment opportunities, educational attainment, and health. The authors show that the differences in success between GED recipients and high school graduates are driven by character skills. Achievement tests like the GED do not adequately capture character skills like conscientiousness, perseverance, sociability, and curiosity. These skills are important in predicting a variety of life outcomes. They can be measured, and they can be taught. Using the GED as a case study, the authors explore what achievement tests miss and show the dangers of an educational system based on them. They call for a return to an emphasis on character in our schools, our systems of accountability, and our national dialogue.
