Download or read book The Holy Slavery of the Admirable Mother of God written by Henri-marie Boudon and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-09-22 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Now, For The First Time In 348 Years, YOU Can Discover The Secrets Which Made St. Louis-Marie de Montfort's Marian Devotion Skyrocket" If you'd like to know the powerful secrets of one of the greatest servants of Mary, then this will be the most important letter you will ever read. First things first. First published in 1667, this is the only English translation ever done of Fr. Boudon's book. "Let St. Louis-Marie's biographers tell you about it" Canon Blain, St. Louis-Marie's best friend wrote: "As Louis-Marie devoted a lot of time to spiritual reading, he became familiar with nearly all books dealing with the spiritual life. Those which in my opinion were his favorites were those by the late Fr. Boudon. He would have liked everybody to join the society of the slaves of the Blessed Virgin. The source of this zeal was the book written on this subject by the late Fr. Boudon." Fr. Jean Marie Texier: "The writings of this holy priest charmed the fervent seminarian (St. Louis-Marie) in his free time and gave a lively impulse to his momentum toward the good. But none captivated him as much as The Holy Slavery of the Admirable Mother of God. "It is a rich repertoire from which Montfort drew extensively when his composed his Treatise on the True Devotion. One finds, in effect, in the writings of Montfort, the thoughts of Boudon, and sometimes even his expressions." "Your Marian devotion can go through the roof with this book..." 1. because you will be following in the footsteps of a great Marian saint. 2. because you will know why you can be certain of honoring God by this devotion. 3. because you will see how this devotion contains all other devotions and helps you practice them. 4. because you will know clearly how God is the ultimate end of this devotion. 5. because you will see why the devil hates the Rosary, and how you can beat him. 6. because you will get a clear explanation of why you need devotion to Mary to overcome the snares of the devil. (It may surprise you.) 7. because you will understand the untold benefits to you for having devotion to St. John the Apostle. 8. because you will drink in why devotion to St. Joseph, St. Joachim and St. Anne is important, and how devotion to them will increase your devotion to Mary. (Can you name the other saints? Pages 253-259 are a MUST READ.) 9. because you will know excellent ways you can honor the holy Angels, why it's necessary to have devotion to them, and the immense benefits of doing so. 10. because you will find out why faithfully living your devotion to Mary will bring you a high place in Heaven. 11. because you will learn the strength of Mary's Immaculate Heart (You have never seen it described like this.), and how Jesus Himself taught St. Mechtilde devotion to it. 12. because you will discover a clear explanation of the tricks of the demons and how they use the means we have of overcoming them against us. (Fr. Boudon gives the most assured means of overcoming them, and you will learn what the devil dreads the most.) All in all, St. Louis-Marie's approval and great use of this book in his "True Devotion to Mary" shows that it is on the up-and-up. No doubt. For him, this book was the 'pearl of great price', and might be the most important Marian book you invest in this year. And it can be yours without breaking the bank. Download or read book The Pope s Body written by Agostino Paravicini-Bagliani and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2000-07 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In contrast to the role traditionally fulfilled by secular rulers, the pope has been perceived as an individual person existing in a body subject to decay and death, yet at the same time a corporeal representation of Christ and the Church, eternity and salvation. Using an array of evidence from the eleventh through the fifteenth centuries, Agostino Paravicini- Bagliani addresses this paradox. He studies the rituals, metaphors, and images of the pope's body as they developed over time and shows how they resulted in the expectation that the pope's body be simultaneously physical and metaphorical. Also included is a particular emphasis on the thirteenth century when, during the pontificate of Boniface VIII (1294-1303), the papal court became the focus of medicine and the natural sciences as physicians devised ways to protect the pope's health and prolong his life. Masterfully translated from the Italian, this engaging history of the pope's body provides a new perspective for readers to understand the papacy, both historically and in our own time.
Download or read book Armenf rsorge und Wohlt tigkeit written by Inga Brandes and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 2008 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. How did rural poverty look like in the European past? Could not everybody in the countryside keep chickens, or pick berries in the woods? Is not the solidarity of villagers commonly known even today? The volume draws together historians from five European countries to map out a field of research which has long been neglected by welfare as well as agricultural historians. Continuities and changes within rural as compared to urban poor relief, of ecclesiastic and of aristocratic charity are described. A wide range of sources is taken into account to show how the rural poor were perceived and treated by private and public institutions of social assistance. Power relations between men and women, aristocrats and peasantry, or administrators and the needy are especially focussed upon.

Download or read book Conversion and Narrative written by Ryan Szpiech and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2012-10-29 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1322, a Jewish doctor named Abner entered a synagogue in the Castilian city of Burgos and began to weep in prayer. Falling asleep, he dreamed of a "great man" who urged him to awaken from his slumber. Shortly thereafter, he converted to Christianity and wrote a number of works attacking his old faith. Abner tells the story in fantastic detail in the opening to his Hebrew-language but anti-Jewish polemical treatise, Teacher of Righteousness. In the religiously plural context of the medieval Western Mediterranean, religious conversion played an important role as a marker of social boundaries and individual identity. The writers of medieval religious polemics such as Teacher of Righteousness often began by giving a brief, first-person account of the rejection of their old faith and their embrace of the new. In such accounts, Ryan Szpiech argues, the narrative form plays an important role in dramatizing the transition from infidelity to faith. Szpiech draws on a wide body of sources from Christian, Jewish, and Muslim polemics to investigate the place of narrative in the representation of conversion. Making a firm distinction between stories told about conversion and the experience of religious change, his book is not a history of conversion itself but a comparative study of how and why it was presented in narrative form within the context of religious disputation. He argues that between the twelfth and fifteenth centuries, conversion narratives were needed to represent communal notions of history and authority in allegorical, dramatic terms. After considering the late antique paradigms on which medieval Christian conversion narratives were based, Szpiech juxtaposes Christian stories with contemporary accounts of conversion to Islam and Judaism. He emphasizes that polemical conflict between Abrahamic religions in the medieval Mediterranean centered on competing visions of history and salvation. By seeing conversion not as an individual experience but as a public narrative, Conversion and Narrative provides a new, interdisciplinary perspective on medieval writing about religious disputes.
