Ce mémoire décrit les mécanismes qui pourraient permettre une rémunération efficace de la préservation de la forêt tropicale du bassin du Congo, en s’appuyant sur la modélisation de scénarios de référence et de modes de rémunération par une étude économétrique. Il montre l’importance du choix des scénarios de référence, et notamment de la prise en compte de quelques facteurs ayant une influence décisive sur le processus de déforestation. Pour atteindre une efficacité réelle, il conclut à la nécessité de dépasser le niveau d’un fonds de la Banque Mondiale et d’inclure ces actions au niveau de la gouvernance internationale.

Arguing that the choice to have children is not just a prudential or pragmatic decision but one with ethical repercussions, Overall offers a wide-ranging exploration of how we might think systematically and deeply about this fundamental aspect of human life. Writing from a feminist perspective, she also acknowledges the inevitably gendered nature of the decision; the choice has different meanings, implications, and risks for women than it has for men. First, it recapitulates the main statistical references for the period 1961 to 2003, before going on to describe the Agribiom simulation tool used to calculate food biomass resource use balances. Two scenarios on the 2050 timeline are then considered: Agrimonde GO is a trend-based scenario that bets on economic growth to feed the world, in a context where environmental protection is not a priority; in contrast, the idea in Agrimonde 1 is to feed the world while preserving its ecosystems.
