Book excerpt: Cette thèse porte sur la connaissance des hommes de moins de 40 ans concernant les méthodes et la législation française de l’interruption volontaire de grossesse (IVG). Il s’agit d’une enquête descriptive, transversale, menée auprès de 140 hommes se présentant dans quatre cabinets de médecine générale, en Île-de-France, durant les mois de juillet, aout et septembre 2013. Elle a révélé que ces derniers avaient une connaissance limitée des méthodes d’IVG et de sa législation en France : 23% pensaient qu’une IVG était possible à domicile ; 43% ont cité un terme limite à 12 SG ; 51% disaient que l’IVG était prise en charge par la sécurité sociale ; 81% pensaient qu’une mineure était autorisée à effectuer une IVG, parmi eux 46% suggéraient que la présence parentale n’était pas obligatoire et dans ce cas 49% pensaient que la présence d’un adulte référent l’était. Seulement 20% disaient qu’un médecin généraliste pouvait effectuer une IVG, contre 71% de gynécologues médicaux et 67% d’obstétriciens. 40% des hommes interrogés ne connaissaient aucune méthode ; la méthode médicamenteuse a été citée environ 32%, la méthode chirurgicale (non précisée et aspiration) près de 35%. Le fait d’avoir accompagné une femme lors d’une IVG ne permet pas d’avoir de meilleure connaissance sur l’IVG hormis sur les méthodes, et favorise l’ancrage d’idées fausses (la contraception d’urgence serait une méthode abortive). Ce travail a révélé le peu de connaissances des hommes de moins de 40 ans interrogés. Il faudrait effectuer d’avantage d’études centrées sur l’homme et l’IVG, et réfléchir à les impliquer davantage aussi bien pour la contraception que pour l’IVG.
