Download or read book Science Education in the 21st Century written by Ingrid V. Eriksson and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is hardly another field in education which is more important for a country's future than science education. Yet more and more students elect to concentrate on other fields to the exclusion of science for a variety of reasons: 1. The perception of degree of difficulty, 2. The actual degree of difficulty, 3. The lack of perceived prestige and earnings associated with the field. 4. The dearth of good and easy to use texts. 5. The lack of society in comprehending the significance of science and creating attractive incentives for those who enter the field. This book presents new issues and challenges for the field.
Download or read book Indigenous Graphic Communication Systems written by Katarzyna Mikulksa and published by University Press of Colorado. This book was released on 2020-01-17 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indigenous Graphic Communication Systems challenges the adequacy of Western academic views on what writing is and explores how they can be expanded by analyzing the sophisticated graphic communication systems found in Central Mesoamerica and Andean South America. By examining case studies from across the Americas, the authors pursue an enhanced understanding of Native American graphic communication systems and how the study of graphic expression can provide insight into ancient cultures and societies, expressed in indigenous words. Focusing on examples from Central Mexico and the Andes, the authors explore the overlap among writing, graphic expression, and orality in indigenous societies, inviting reevaluation of the Western notion that writing exists only to record language (the spoken chain of speech) as well as accepted beliefs of Western alphabetized societies about the accuracy, durability, and unambiguous nature of their own alphabetized texts. The volume also addresses the rapidly growing field of semasiography and relocates it more productively as one of several underlying operating principles in graphic communication systems. Indigenous Graphic Communication Systems reports new results and insights into the meaning of the rich and varied content of indigenous American graphic expression and culture as well as into the societies and cultures that produce them. It will be of great interest to Mesoamericanists, students, and scholars of anthropology, archaeology, art history, ancient writing systems, and comparative world history. Download or read book Italian Opera in Global and Transnational Perspective written by Axel Körner and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-03-24 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of essays discusses the European and global expansion of Italian opera and the significance of this process for debates on opera at home in Italy. Covering different parts of Europe, the Americas, Southeast and East Asia, it investigates the impact of transnational musical exchanges on notions of national identity associated with the production and reception of Italian opera across the world. As a consequence of these exchanges between composers, impresarios, musicians and audiences, ideas of operatic Italianness (italianit...) constantly changed and had to be reconfigured, reflecting the radically transformative experience of time and space that throughout the nineteenth century turned opera into a global aesthetic commodity. The book opens with a substantial introduction discussing key concepts in cross-disciplinary perspective and concludes with an epilogue relating its findings to different historiographical trends in transnational opera studies.

Download or read book El juego del escondite written by Patricia Highsmith and published by Anagrama. This book was released on 1997-03-01 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book An International Annotated Bibliography of Strindberg Studies 1870 2005 Autobiographies novels poetry letters historical works natural history and science lingiustics painting and the other arts politics psychopathology biography miscellaneous dissertations written by Michael Robinson and published by MHRA. This book was released on 2008 with total page 770 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This copiously annotated bibliography documents and examines the whole range of commentary on Strindberg's works and activity in many fields besides the plays for which he is internationally best known. These include his prose fiction and poetry, his work as an historian and natural historian, and his relationship to the other arts, most notably his painting. It is concerned with both lasting works of literary and dramatic criticism, as well as reviews of his books and plays in the theatre, and some more ephemeral material, all of this in several languages. Organised generically and by subject and individual work, the bibliography enables the reader to trace the changing impact of Strindberg and his works in various countries and during different periods. It is thus very much a study in reception as well as a bibliographical record of published material. It traces the developing image of Strindberg and his writing both during his lifetime and in subsequent years, and with frequent cross reference offers a comprehensive overview of a literary and existential project that has rarely been matched for its multifaceted diversity. The bibliography is published in three parts. Volume 1, General Studies (978-0-947623-81-4) and Volume 2, The Plays (978-0-947623-82-1) are also now available. Michael Robinson is Emeritus Professor of Drama and Scandinavian Studies at the University of East Anglia, Norwich.

This book was released on 1990 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study provides an examination of the Spanish novelist Perez Galdos' turn to the stage in 1892 and his simultaneous shift in approach towards the roles of women in society. Particular attention is paid to the creation of and compromise involved in Galdos' dramatic debut, Realidad, which marks a significant turning point in both artistic and ideological terms. The study analyzes through the contemporary drama of the first period the subsequent evolution of La Mujer Nueva on stage. All the relevant manuscripts, correspondence, and reviews available in the CasaMuseo and the Biblioteca Nacional have been studied in order to present a comprehensive picture of this phase in Galdos' career.
