Download or read book Dante and Governance written by John Robert Woodhouse and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ante and Governance brings to the most grandiose of Dante's messages in the ivine Comedy critical viewpoints whose originality would, at any time, constitute an important addition to Dante scholarship, but the book is also notable for an approach which during the course of its compositionspontaneously evolved as pragmatic and historical, particularly when seen against much contemporary Dante cricism. It explores Dante's breathtaking ambition to convince Europe's rulers and their subjects to create and embrace a universal peace, guaranteed by Pope and Holy Roman Emperor, which mightafford serenity for mankind fully to develop its wonderful potentialities. In that context, a group of scholars, internationally known for their expertise not only in Dante studies but also in medieval literature and history, was invited to Oxford to discuss the poet's objectives. Each chose toargue a case from a close reading of Dante's own texts, using clear and jargon-free lamguage. Those deliberations created a well-focused and coherent group of papers on a variety of subjects, ranging from an aesthetic appreciation of Dante's depiction of free-will and moral responsibility, to afeminist perception of his attitude to the role of women in fourteenth-century Florentine public life.

Download or read book Digital Governance of Education written by Paolo Landri and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-09-20 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital Governance of Education explores the multiple ways in which digital technologies are changing the experience of education. With much of the contemporary education practice either taking place or being documented digitally, a huge amount of data is constantly being collected and analysed to give sophisticated and up-to-date accounts of education practice in contemporary societies. Such 'datafication' of education, mediated through technology, gives rise to what the author defines as 'digital governance' of education – a transnational assemblage of people, technologies and policies that increasingly affects how national education systems are organized and managed. Paolo Landri argues that the emergence of digital governance is closely related to the new wave of standardization in education, exemplified by the shift towards what is measurable (for example focus on 'learning outcomes') and towards transparency in education practice - a shift that is both facilitated and augmented by digital technologies. The author places the digital governance of education within the framework of Europeanization of education, exploring how it contributes to the creation and regulation of European education arena through consolidation of digital space and tools introduced in this process (such as guidelines, country reports and online dashboards). Adopting a sociomaterial approach to education policy and drawing on actor-network theory, Paolo Landri uses empirical data to investigate how the digitization of education policy and practice is occurring in Italy, and to what extent it contributes to the growth of the digital governance of education. Pointing out the variety of risks and opportunities, he indicates future directions of critical research and the wider international implications of this global trend.
Download or read book When Students Protest written by Judith Bessant and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-08-11 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Student political action has been a major and recurring feature of politics across the globe throughout the past century. Students have been involved in a full range of public issues, from anti-colonial movements, anti-war campaigns, civil rights and pro-democracy movements to campaigns against neoliberal policies, austerity, racism, misogyny and calls for climate change action. Yet their actions are frequently dismissed by political elites and others as ‘adolescent mischief’ or manipulation of young people by duplicitous adults. This occurs even as many working in governments, traditional media and educational organisations attempt to suppress student movements. Moreover, much of mainstream scholarly work has deemed student politics as unworthy of intellectual attention. These three edited volumes of books help set the record straight. Written by scholars and activists from around the world, When Students Protest: Universities in the Global North is the third in this three-volume study that explores university student politics in the global north. Authors explore university and college student political action, especially over the past decade. It is just over fifty years since May 1968 when student protests erupted at Université Paris Nanterre in France and then spread across the globe. Contributors to this book demonstrate that despite repeated attempts by states, power elites and institutions to suppress and even criminalise student political action, student movements have always been part of the political landscape and remain a significant and potent source of political change and renewal.

Download or read book Megaproject Management written by Edoardo Favari and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-20 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book investigates the various aspects characterizing Megaprojects from numerous perspectives and by integrating different disciplines: engineering, economics, business organization, human resource management, law, etc. It represents the first output of MeRIT (the Megaproject Research Interdisciplinary Team), and focuses on the intrinsic and unavoidable complexity of Megaprojects. The chapters have intentionally not been standardized, and humanistic topics are not separated from technical ones: this way of reading and interpreting Megaprojects through the cross-pollination of various disciplines reflects the MeRIT approach. Addressing the complexity involved in Megaprojects requires the use of a hermeneutic circle of sorts: understanding the project as a whole is achieved by referring to the specific parts, while each part can only be understood in relation to the whole. This circular approach appears to be the only one applicable to Megaprojects: no final destination, no final synthesis can be achieved. This volume consists of eight chapters written by researchers in law, economics, sociology, business organization, engineering, architecture and landscaping. The topics covered will be relevant to researchers, practitioners involved in the development of Megaprojects, and policymakers at the EU level.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary organizations are undertaking increasingly complex projects in globalized, uncertain and dynamic environments. Proliferation of international programs, growing and challenging sophistication of technologies and of projects’ scope, and the increasing number of stakeholders are only some of the factors that increase or generate project complexity. Enhancing the understanding of what project complexity is and delineating the antecedents that increase or generate complexity can be fundamental steps towards the identification of drivers that cause complexity and consequences for project management performance. The PMI® Italian Academic Workshop, organized in 20-21 September 2018 by Sapienza University of Rome and the three Italian Chapter of the Project Management Institute, has been an event aimed at supporting participants to develop their researches to a further stage through in-depth discussions on the topic of project complexity. In collaboration with the PMI® Italy Chapters.

Download or read book Playing with Gender written by Maggie Gunsberg and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-12-02 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This work takes gender as its point of entry into the comedies of Carlo Goldoni (1707-93). The dramatization of femininity and masculinity is explored in conjunction with that of other social categories (class, the family, and age). The plays reinforce the patriarchal association of femininity with the body, with spectacle, and with theatricality, while the dramatic backdrop of Venice and carnival provides a context for the staging of issues relating to identity, disguise and fashion. In the plays, pretence and theatricality vie with bourgeois Enlightenment values of morality, honesty and respectability to produce dramatic tension with distinct gender implications."
