Book L2 Approaches in Several Complex Variables

Download or read book L2 Approaches in Several Complex Variables written by Takeo Ohsawa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-28 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents the current status of a rapidly developing part of several complex variables, motivated by the applicability of effective results to algebraic geometry and differential geometry. Special emphasis is put on the new precise results on the L2 extension of holomorphic functions in the past 5 years. In Chapter 1, the classical questions of several complex variables motivating the development of this field are reviewed after necessary preparations from the basic notions of those variables and of complex manifolds such as holomorphic functions, pseudoconvexity, differential forms, and cohomology. In Chapter 2, the L2 method of solving the d-bar equation is presented emphasizing its differential geometric aspect. In Chapter 3, a refinement of the Oka–Cartan theory is given by this method. The L2 extension theorem with an optimal constant is included, obtained recently by Z. Błocki and separately by Q.-A. Guan and X.-Y. Zhou. In Chapter 4, various results on the Bergman kernel are presented, including recent works of Maitani–Yamaguchi, Berndtsson, Guan–Zhou, and Berndtsson–Lempert. Most of these results are obtained by the L2 method. In the last chapter, rather specific results are discussed on the existence and classification of certain holomorphic foliations and Levi flat hypersurfaces as their stables sets. These are also applications of the L2 method obtained during the past 15 years.

Book Basic Oka Theory in Several Complex Variables

Download or read book Basic Oka Theory in Several Complex Variables written by Junjirō Noguchi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a new, comprehensive, and self-contained account of Oka theory as an introduction to function theory of several complex variables, mainly concerned with the Three Big Problems (Approximation, Cousin, Pseudoconvexity) that were solved by Kiyoshi Oka and form the basics of the theory. The purpose of the volume is to serve as a textbook in lecture courses right after complex function theory of one variable. The presentation aims to be readable and enjoyable both for those who are beginners in mathematics and for researchers interested in complex analysis in several variables and complex geometry. The nature of the present book is evinced by its approach following Oka's unpublished five papers of 1943 with his guiding methodological principle termed the "Joku-Iko Principle", where historically the Pseudoconvexity Problem (Hartogs, Levi) was first solved in all dimensions, even for unramified Riemann domains as well. The method that is used in the book is elementary and direct, not relying on the cohomology theory of sheaves nor on the L2-∂-bar method, but yet reaches the core of the theory with the complete proofs. Two proofs for Levi's Problem are provided: One is Oka's original with the Fredholm integral equation of the second kind combined with the Joku-Iko Principle, and the other is Grauert's by the well-known "bumping-method" with L. Schwartz's Fredholm theorem, of which a self-contained, rather simple and short proof is given. The comparison of them should be interesting even for specialists. In addition to the Three Big Problems, other basic material is dealt with, such as Poincaré's non-biholomorphism between balls and polydisks, the Cartan-Thullen theorem on holomorphic convexity, Hartogs' separate analyticity, Bochner's tube theorem, analytic interpolation, and others. It is valuable for students and researchers alike to look into the original works of Kiyoshi Oka, which are not easy to find in books or monographs.

Book Analytic Function Theory of Several Variables

Download or read book Analytic Function Theory of Several Variables written by Junjiro Noguchi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-16 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to present the classical analytic function theory of several variables as a standard subject in a course of mathematics after learning the elementary materials (sets, general topology, algebra, one complex variable). This includes the essential parts of Grauert–Remmert's two volumes, GL227(236) (Theory of Stein spaces) and GL265 (Coherent analytic sheaves) with a lowering of the level for novice graduate students (here, Grauert's direct image theorem is limited to the case of finite maps). The core of the theory is "Oka's Coherence", found and proved by Kiyoshi Oka. It is indispensable, not only in the study of complex analysis and complex geometry, but also in a large area of modern mathematics. In this book, just after an introductory chapter on holomorphic functions (Chap. 1), we prove Oka's First Coherence Theorem for holomorphic functions in Chap. 2. This defines a unique character of the book compared with other books on this subject, in which the notion of coherence appears much later. The present book, consisting of nine chapters, gives complete treatments of the following items: Coherence of sheaves of holomorphic functions (Chap. 2); Oka–Cartan's Fundamental Theorem (Chap. 4); Coherence of ideal sheaves of complex analytic subsets (Chap. 6); Coherence of the normalization sheaves of complex spaces (Chap. 6); Grauert's Finiteness Theorem (Chaps. 7, 8); Oka's Theorem for Riemann domains (Chap. 8). The theories of sheaf cohomology and domains of holomorphy are also presented (Chaps. 3, 5). Chapter 6 deals with the theory of complex analytic subsets. Chapter 8 is devoted to the applications of formerly obtained results, proving Cartan–Serre's Theorem and Kodaira's Embedding Theorem. In Chap. 9, we discuss the historical development of "Coherence".It is difficult to find a book at this level that treats all of the above subjects in a completely self-contained manner. In the present volume, a number of classical proofs are improved and simplified, so that the contents are easily accessible for beginning graduate students.

Book Partial Differential Equations in Several Complex Variables

Download or read book Partial Differential Equations in Several Complex Variables written by So-chin Chen and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2001 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended as both an introductory text and a reference book for those interested in studying several complex variables in the context of partial differential equations. In the last few decades, significant progress has been made in the study of Cauchy-Riemann and tangential Cauchy-Riemann operators; this progress greatly influenced the development of PDEs and several complex variables. After the background material in complex analysis is developed in Chapters 1 to 3, thenext three chapters are devoted to the solvability and regularity of the Cauchy-Riemann equations using Hilbert space techniques. The authors provide a systematic study of the Cauchy-Riemann equations and the \bar\partial-Neumann problem, including Hórmander's L2 existence progress on the globalregularity and irregularity of the \bar\partial-Neumann operators. The second part of the book gives a comprehensive study of the tangential Cauchy-Riemann equations, another important class of equations in several complex variables first studied by Lewy. An up-to-date account of the L2 theory for \bar\partial b operator is given. Explicit integral solution representations are constructed both on the Heisenberg groups and on strictly convex boundaries with estimates in Hölder and L2spaces. Embeddability of abstract CR structures is discussed in detail here for the first time.Titles in this series are co-published with International Press, Cambridge, MA.

Book Lectures on the L2 Sobolev Theory of the d bar Neumann Problem

Download or read book Lectures on the L2 Sobolev Theory of the d bar Neumann Problem written by Emil J. Straube and published by European Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2010 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a thorough and self-contained introduction to the $\bar{\partial}$-Neumann problem, leading up to current research, in the context of the $\mathcal{L}^{2}$-Sobolev theory on bounded pseudoconvex domains in $\mathbb{C}^{n}$. It grew out of courses for advanced graduate students and young researchers given by the author at the Erwin Schrodinger International Institute for Mathematical Physics and at Texas A & M University. The introductory chapter provides an overview of the contents and puts them in historical perspective. The second chapter presents the basic $\mathcal{L}^{2}$-theory. Following is a chapter on the subelliptic estimates on strictly pseudoconvex domains. The two final chapters on compactness and on regularity in Sobolev spaces bring the reader to the frontiers of research. Prerequisites are a solid background in basic complex and functional analysis, including the elementary $\mathcal{L}^{2}$-Sobolev theory and distributions. Some knowledge in several complex variables is helpful. Concerning partial differential equations, not much is assumed. The elliptic regularity of the Dirichlet problem for the Laplacian is quoted a few times, but the ellipticity results needed for elliptic regularization in the third chapter are proved from scratch.

Book Stein Manifolds and Holomorphic Mappings

Download or read book Stein Manifolds and Holomorphic Mappings written by Franc Forstnerič and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-05 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, now in a carefully revised second edition, provides an up-to-date account of Oka theory, including the classical Oka-Grauert theory and the wide array of applications to the geometry of Stein manifolds. Oka theory is the field of complex analysis dealing with global problems on Stein manifolds which admit analytic solutions in the absence of topological obstructions. The exposition in the present volume focuses on the notion of an Oka manifold introduced by the author in 2009. It explores connections with elliptic complex geometry initiated by Gromov in 1989, with the Andersén-Lempert theory of holomorphic automorphisms of complex Euclidean spaces and of Stein manifolds with the density property, and with topological methods such as homotopy theory and the Seiberg-Witten theory. Researchers and graduate students interested in the homotopy principle in complex analysis will find this book particularly useful. It is currently the only work that offers a comprehensive introduction to both the Oka theory and the theory of holomorphic automorphisms of complex Euclidean spaces and of other complex manifolds with large automorphism groups.

Book Bousfield Classes and Ohkawa s Theorem

Download or read book Bousfield Classes and Ohkawa s Theorem written by Takeo Ohsawa and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-18 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume originated in the workshop held at Nagoya University, August 28–30, 2015, focusing on the surprising and mysterious Ohkawa's theorem: the Bousfield classes in the stable homotopy category SH form a set. An inspiring, extensive mathematical story can be narrated starting with Ohkawa's theorem, evolving naturally with a chain of motivational questions: Ohkawa's theorem states that the Bousfield classes of the stable homotopy category SH surprisingly forms a set, which is still very mysterious. Are there any toy models where analogous Bousfield classes form a set with a clear meaning? The fundamental theorem of Hopkins, Neeman, Thomason, and others states that the analogue of the Bousfield classes in the derived category of quasi-coherent sheaves Dqc(X) form a set with a clear algebro-geometric description. However, Hopkins was actually motivated not by Ohkawa's theorem but by his own theorem with Smith in the triangulated subcategory SHc, consisting of compact objects in SH. Now the following questions naturally occur: (1) Having theorems of Ohkawa and Hopkins-Smith in SH, are there analogues for the Morel-Voevodsky A1-stable homotopy category SH(k), which subsumes SH when k is a subfield of C?, (2) Was it not natural for Hopkins to have considered Dqc(X)c instead of Dqc(X)? However, whereas there is a conceptually simple algebro-geometrical interpretation Dqc(X)c = Dperf(X), it is its close relative Dbcoh(X) that traditionally, ever since Oka and Cartan, has been intensively studied because of its rich geometric and physical information. This book contains developments for the rest of the story and much more, including the chromatics homotopy theory, which the Hopkins–Smith theorem is based upon, and applications of Lurie's higher algebra, all by distinguished contributors.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We consider the basic problems, notions and facts in the theory of entire functions of several variables, i. e. functions J(z) holomorphic in the entire n space en (i. e. JEH( 1 variables, as in the case n = 1, a central theme deals with questions of growth of functions and the distribu tion of their zeros. However, there are significant differences between the cases of one and several variables. In the first place there is the fact that for n 1 the zero set of an entire function is not discrete and therefore one has no analogue of a tool such as the canonical Weierstrass product, which is fundamental in the case n = 1. Second, for n> 1 there exist several different natural ways of exhausting the space
