Book excerpt: « Ce mémoire a pour objectif principal de comprendre le processus qui mène les femmes immigrantes africaines de l’intégration à l’inclusion en milieu de travail québécois. Pour ce faire, nous nous sommes penchées sur le cas de sept préposées aux bénéficiaires africaines issues de l’immigration qui ont choisi le Québec comme terre d'accueil. Six entrevues individuelles ont été réalisées et un témoignage (autopraxéographie) a été recueilli. Nous avons examiné la manière dont elles ont accédé à l’emploi et les difficultés rencontrées lors de cette étape, puis leur intégration et obstacles rencontrés en milieu professionnel, ainsi que les pratiques mises en œuvre par leur organisation pour assurer une inclusion réussie et efficace dans leur milieu de travail. Nos résultats ont montré une incidence positive entre intégration et inclusion en milieu de travail en ce qui concerne l’agence privée, en revanche sur les lieux d’intervention dans l’établissement de santé, il est difficile de parler d’intégration et encore moins d’inclusion car il semble y avoir, pour les PAB de l’agence, des problèmes de légitimité dans la profession, des difficultés interpersonnelles avec des collègues, de la discrimination voire du racisme. Arising dissatisfaction among users of welfare and social work services is fuelling the search for a new, more radical social work that is firmly rooted in principles of social justice. Globalisation, Global Justice and Social Work explores the global effects of neo-liberal policies on welfare services in different countries, with contributions from social work academics, practitioners and welfare activists around the world. The first section of the book presents case studies of impact of neo-liberalism on welfare systems, social service provision and the practice of social work. In the second section the chapters explore the relationship between social work practice and the struggle for social justice. Authors discuss the personal and political dilemmas they have had to address in seeking to link a personal commitment to social justice with their daily practice as workers and educators in social work. The final section assesses the prospects for social work practice based on notions of social justice, by looking at what can be learned from the experience of previous radical movements as well as from emergent global and local movements.
