This report replaces the Annual Air Quality Index, provides an update of the Short-term Index published in 1980, and incorporates subsequent revisions to the national ambient air quality objectives and recommendations on additional sub-indices. Its goal is to provide information on the adverse effects of the five common pollutants: sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, and total suspended particulates.
