L'autoritarisme s'est traduit par la démolition des acquis démocratiques érigés au début du processus en mécanisme constitutionnel et institutionnel charger de limiter les abus du pouvoir pour provoquer une alternance politique. Sur le plan électoral, l'organisation et l'aboutissement des élections ont montré des limites par les faiblesses de la commission électorale et du Conseil constitutionnel dans la gestion du contentieux des élections et la proclamation des vrais résultats issus des urnes. Au plan constitutionnel, la modification intervenue en juin 2005 a conduit le processus démocratique dans l'impasse du fait de la déconstruction de la norme portant limitation du nombre des mandats présidentiels désormais renouvelable à vie. Au niveau institutionnel et politique, un dysfonctionnement règne en maître et la séparation des pouvoirs n'est que de simple fait à cause de l'influence présidentielle et du déficit d'autonomie fonctionnelle des institutions (pouvoir législatif et judiciaire). Par ailleurs, cette thèse dénonce l'absence d'alternance démocratique à travers la montée de l'hyper-présidentialisme tchadien et propose une réforme de l'Exécutif pour relancer les dynamiques de la consolidation démocratique au Tchad.
