Book Implicitness

Download or read book Implicitness written by Piotr Cap and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2017-06-30 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the term implicitness is ubiquitous in the pragmatic scholarship, it has rarely constituted the focus of attention per se. This book aims to help crystallize the concept of implicitness by defining its linguistic boundaries, as well as specifying and exploring its different communicative manifestations. The contributions by leading specialists scrutinize the main conceptualizations, forms and occurrences of implicitness (such as implicature, impliciture, explicature, entailment, presupposition, etc.) at different levels of linguistic organization. The volume focuses on phrasal, sentential, and discursive phenomena, showcasing the richness and variety of implicit forms of communication, systematizing (where possible) the existing analytic perspectives, and identifying the most productive procedures for further exploration. Taken together, the chapters exhibit theoretical differences that hinder a consensus on the nature of implicitness, but they simultaneously reveal methodological points of contact and raise common questions, thereby signposting a future analytic agenda. The book will appeal to both theoretically and empirically minded scholars working within and across the disciplines of Pragmatics, Semantics, Language Philosophy, Discourse Analysis, and Communication Studies.

Until now this question has been examined mainly by psychoanalysts, from their own perspective, but here it is investigated by a linguist, who systematically explores two domains. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Politics in Transition is a unique and innovative introduction to key issues surrounding politics and the state in the United Kingdom today. It illuminates the current restructuring of government and the political economy by exploring the processes underlying change. Transcending the narrow boundaries of academic disciplines, it highlights the issue of structural change from a series of different perspectives. The relationship between political, social, and economic forces in explaining changes is a recurrent theme; the notion of uneven development constitutes an important organizing principle. Further, the authors place the United Kingdom firmly within the world political system but also investigate the roots of its individuality within that system. The wide range of issues and approaches presented in this engaging volume make it essential reading for students and scholars of political science, sociology, social policy, geography, economics, and planning. "A useful foundation for study which can be used either as part of the series or on its own." --Geographical Journal "A reasoned and critical account drawing upon a wide range of theories within a manner unconstrained by disciplinary boundaries. . . . ambitious in its scope and through its deliberate use of juxtaposing alternative theories, frequently provocative in its conclusions." --Transactions

Book Les nouvelles syntaxes

Download or read book Les nouvelles syntaxes written by Anne Abeillé and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
