Download or read book L adattamento delle citt ai cambiamenti climatici written by Carlo Gerundo and published by FedOA - Federico II University Press. This book was released on 2018-03-14 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book 04 Acerra Advanced Design Studio

Download or read book 04 Acerra Advanced Design Studio written by Marilena Bosone and published by FedOA - Federico II University Press. This book was released on 2024-05-30 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

[English]: The design work carried out on the city of Frattaminore represented, for the students in the last year of the Master’s Program in Architecture 5UE, an important experiment, from a design and professional point of view, towards the development of an approach aimed at finding an adequate and factual response to the multiple needs posed by the reality of the context in which it operates. The book collects the results of the work carried out during the 2020-2021 academic year, highlighting the multiplicity of aspects and design topics addressed, as well as the variety of the proposed solutions. The structure of the book reflects this experimental approach, starting with the exploration of some preliminary topics and methods, examined in the “Essays” section; continuing through the tool of the “mapping” and the interaction with the environment and with the people who live the places; finally, working on assembling and defining a “synthesis” of data and investigations through the design proposals, described in the “Projects” section. Each project theme includes a theoretical study through an introductory essay, and several design variations to provide, in an alternative way, possible scenarios for the city. To try to solve the existing critical issues, yet to enhance the potential and the various heritage of the city of Frattaminore, the project proposals were built grafting into the existing, not oriented towards the definition of a closed form and a predetermined function. On the contrary, it has implied to work on the idea of an open form, which reuses what already exists, including multiple possibilities of use and continuously changing its perimeter, extending and incorporating urban pieces of different nature. Scenarios of new possible meanings and new urban transformations are, therefore, the result of this work, made up of different levels of study and research related to the general idea of Frattaminore as a city in transition.

Book Mapping Urban Spaces

Download or read book Mapping Urban Spaces written by Lamberto Amistadi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-21 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mapping Urban Spaces focuses on medium-sized European cities and more specifically on their open spaces from psychological, sociological, and aesthetic points of view. The chapters illustrate how the characteristics that make life in medium-sized European cities pleasant and sustainable – accessibility, ease of travel, urban sustainability, social inclusiveness – can be traced back to the nature of that space. The chapters develop from a phenomenological study of space to contributions on places and landscapes in the city. Centralities and their meaning are studied, as well as the social space and its complexity. The contributions focus on history and theory as well as concrete research and mapping approaches and the resulting design applications. The case studies come from countries around Europe including Poland, Italy, Greece, Germany, and France, among others. The book will be of interest to students, scholars, and practitioners in architecture, urban planning, and landscape architecture.

Book Smart Rules for Smart Cities

Download or read book Smart Rules for Smart Cities written by Eleonora Riva Sanseverino and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-23 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the new rules and codes that are required in order to foster the implementation of smart city technologies with a view to meeting the environmental and energy challenges posed by dynamic contemporary cities with increasing populations. In particular, it proposes a methodological approach suitable for use when devising a smart urban/building code for local administrations, taking into account the current European regulatory framework (directives and technical norms) and evaluating the economic feasibility of the suggested measures. A case study is made of a large Mediterranean city in Italy that can be regarded as a paradigm of urban evolution, where a traditional individualism poses a cultural obstacle to the emerging need to share resources. Further features include a smart cities atlas, explanation of how to create local rules for sustainable building restoration/construction, and guidance on economic evaluation of the impact of building automation and passive measures for energy efficiency. The book, which has a multidisciplinary perspective, will be of value to all who are interested in the transition to smart cities that can meet sustainable development targets.

Book Re Discovering Proximity

Download or read book Re Discovering Proximity written by Marika Fior and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-09-01 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the topic of proximity and its relations in the design of contemporary urban fabrics and public spaces. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and reflections on the future of cities have lately shed light on the concept of proximity, which is intended as the relationship between communities and urban functions and as relations among people, built spaces, and open spaces. The proximity is a historic and fertile field of interest for American and Northern European urban studies; it is a spatial and social program seemingly surpassed by the styles and rhythms of contemporary city life, but today it is back in vogue with different purposes. Meanwhile, the action research developed by the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies at the Politecnico di Milano for the Municipality of Milan reached its conclusion (2018–2020). The research work focused on contextualizing the new M4 Metro line stations under construction, and jointed mobility flows and places, long-range networks and local ones, boosting the idea of metro stations as regenerative urban thresholds and urban platforms for enabling environmental, sustainable settlement, and active mobility systems. In other words, the action research for Milan shows how to achieve the concept of proximity in the urban design practice in a dense, stratified, and complex urban context.

Book Urban Waterways Evolving Paradigms for Hydro based Urbanisms

Download or read book Urban Waterways Evolving Paradigms for Hydro based Urbanisms written by Nancy M. Clark and published by Edizioni Nuova Cultura. This book was released on 2016-10-31 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Urban Waterways: Evolving Paradigms for Hydro-based Urbanisms investigates the environmental, cultural, and economic future of cities on the water in the 21st century. Collected here are urban projects across the globe from 15 cities on 5 continents representing not only the complexities of urban life in the face of environmental concerns, global economic shifts, waste and energy management, and post-industrial legacies but also new thinking and practices that are emerging from a reconsideration of the value of hydro-based urbanism through a recalibration of our settlement patterns. Contexts range from coastal cities to cities associated with river, lake and wetlands ecologies and offer strategies from retrofitting and recovery to imagining new cities on the water. Although each of these urban projects proposes site specific responses that are locally relevant and respond to the city’s distinctive landscapes, they are also linked through their reconceptualization of a land and water dialogue and in the manner in which they tap into the broader spectrum of what portunism that suggests alternative directions and visions for our urban futures. The congress was held in Durban South Africa.

Book Italian National Forest Inventory Methods and Results of the Third Survey

Download or read book Italian National Forest Inventory Methods and Results of the Third Survey written by Patrizia Gasparini and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-09-29 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book deals with the methods and the results of the third Italian national forest inventory (INFC2015). Arma dei Carabinieri is entrusted with the realisation of the National Forest Inventory and with the decisions about the aims of the survey and data treatment. National forest inventories produce statistically based information on forests over country areas. Such information is used either at subnational or at supranational level in a great number of spheres and processes, included possibility to depict the status of the world forests. Italy conducted its first forest inventory in 1985 and in 2001 a permanent national forest inventory was launched to have periodically updated statistics. Due to the growing concern about the environment and especially the climate change, estimating forests carbon pools was a stated main objective and it was accordingly named Italian National Inventory of Forest and Forest Carbon Pools (INFC). The book begins with a description of the general organisation, the definitions, the methods and the estimation procedures. It proceeds showing the main estimates produced by INFC2015, in tables that are given in the book chapters. The estimates are presented through texts that introduce the subject matter, explain the way the related variables were surveyed and comment on the main outcomes with the help of graphics. The estimates presented include forest area, management and production, biodiversity and protection, forest health, protective and socio-economics functions. Role of forest in the carbon balance was analysed in a specific Chapter, as this is important for its role in the climate change mitigation. The book ends providing an understanding of the current dynamics of Italian forests by comparing the estimates obtained from INFC2005 and INFC2015, the last two national surveys.
