Book Kraft Pulp and Paper Mill Utilization Options for Grey stage Wood

Download or read book Kraft Pulp and Paper Mill Utilization Options for Grey stage Wood written by Theodore Radiotis and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study is part of a series of research papers that explore the biological, social, and economic aspects of British Columbia's mountain pine beetle epidemic. It examines lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta) that has been attacked and killed by mountain pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosae) and which goes through several stages (red and grey) following the attack. Wood moisture content decreases rapidly, typically to below fibre saturation point. As a consequence, the wood responds differently in both the chipping and pulping processes. Research on beetle-attacked wood has shown that many physical properties are not affected; wever wood-water interactions have not been studied in detail. In the two parts of this study, the sorption behaviour of beetle-killed wood in comparison to green wood is examined, and the influence of utilization of dry beetle-killed wood on kraft pulping operations and pulp quality is explored.--Includes text from Government of Canada publications site and from document.

Book Pilot Mechanical Pulping Assessment of Dry Blue stained and Grey stage Wood Chips from Beetle killed Lodgepole Pine

Download or read book Pilot Mechanical Pulping Assessment of Dry Blue stained and Grey stage Wood Chips from Beetle killed Lodgepole Pine written by Thomas Qiuxiong Hu and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The overall goal of this project is to determine the level of dry blue-stained wood chips and the level of grey-stage wood chips that can be economically utilized by BC mechanical pulp producers. The target objectives are two-fold: (1) to determine the maximum levels of dead, dry blue-stained and grey-stage lodgepole pine that can be economically utilized in BC mechanical pulp mills without detrimentally affecting processing and product quality; and (2) to evaluate the economic feasibility of presteaming, chemical impregnation pretreatment and refiner operation options for dry blue-stained and grey-stage lodgepole pine wood chip utilization."--Document.

Book Evaluation of In woods Chipping Options for Beetle killed Lodgepole Pine Wood

This book was released on 2006 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the impact of using a portable in-woods chipper to chip red- and grey-stage mountain pine beetle-infested lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta) from the perspective of chip quality, pulping (thermomechanical and kraft) and pulp quality. In addition, the costs of chipping were determined and compared.

Book Separation Technologies for the Industries of the Future

Download or read book Separation Technologies for the Industries of the Future written by Panel on Separation Technology for Industrial Reuse and Recycling and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1999-01-22 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Separation processes—or processes that use physical, chemical, or electrical forces to isolate or concentrate selected constituents of a mixture—are essential to the chemical, petroleum refining, and materials processing industries. In this volume, an expert panel reviews the separation process needs of seven industries and identifies technologies that hold promise for meeting these needs, as well as key technologies that could enable separations. In addition, the book recommends criteria for the selection of separations research projects for the Department of Energy's Office of Industrial Technology.

Book Green Chemistry and Sustainability in Pulp and Paper Industry

Download or read book Green Chemistry and Sustainability in Pulp and Paper Industry written by Pratima Bajpai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-23 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book features in-depth and thorough coverage of Minimum Impact Mill Technologies which can meet the environmental challenges of the pulp and paper industry and also discusses Mills and Fiberlines that encompass “State-of-the-Art” technology and management practices. The minimum impact mill does not mean "zero effluent", nor is it exclusive to one bleaching concept. It is a much bigger concept which means that significant progress must be made in the following areas: Water Management, Internal Chemical Management, Energy Management, Control and Discharge of Non-Process Elements and Removal of Hazardous Pollutants. At the moment, there is no bleached kraft pulp mill operating with zero effluent. With the rise in environmental awareness due to the lobbying by environmental organizations and with increased government regulation there is now a trend towards sustainability in the pulp and paper industry. Sustainable pulp and paper manufacturing requires a holistic view of the manufacturing process. During the last decade, there have been revolutionary technical developments in pulping, bleaching and chemical recovery technology. These developments have made it possible to further reduce loads in effluents and airborne emissions. Thus, there has been a strong progress towards minimum impact mills in the pulp and paper industry. The minimum-impact mill is a holistic manufacturing concept that encompasses environmental management systems, compliance with environmental laws and regulations and manufacturing technologies.

Book Improving Energy Efficiency in Industrial Energy Systems

Download or read book Improving Energy Efficiency in Industrial Energy Systems written by Patrik Thollander and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-10 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industrial energy efficiency is one of the most important means of reducing the threat of increased global warming. Research however states that despite the existence of numerous technical energy efficiency measures, its deployment is hindered by the existence of various barriers to energy efficiency. The complexity of increasing energy efficiency in manufacturing industry calls for an interdisciplinary approach to the issue. Improving energy efficiency in industrial energy systems applies an interdisciplinary perspective in examining energy efficiency in industrial energy systems, and discusses how “cross-pollinating” perspectives and theories from the social and engineering sciences can enhance our understanding of barriers, energy audits, energy management, policies, and programmes as they pertain to improved energy efficiency in industry. Apart from classical technical approaches from engineering sciences, Improving energy efficiency in industrial energy systems couples a sociotechnical perspective to increased energy efficiency in industry, showing that industrial energy efficiency can be expected to be shaped by social and commercial processes and built on knowledge, routines, institutions, and methods established in networks. The book can be read by researchers and policy-makers, as well as scholars and practicians in the field. “This book is extremely valuable for anyone who is designing or executing energy efficiency policies, schemes or projects aiming at SMEs. Both authors deserve the highest respect, and the combination of their expertise makes the results truly unique.” - Daniel Lundqvist, programme manager at the Swedish energy agency “For anyone interested in improving energy efficiency in industry, this is a must-read. The book combines tools from social science and engineering to discuss the state of art today as well as possible development path tomorrow. This is a compelling book that I find useful both in my teaching and my research.” - Kajsa Ellegård, Professor at Linköping University, Sweden "The book Improving energy efficiency in industrial energy systems is a novel approach on how improved levels of energy efficiency can be reached in industrial energy systems by merging engineering with social sciences. It is with delight that I can recommend their book to anyone interested in the field.”- Mats Söderström, Director Energy Systems Programme, Linköping University, Sweden
