  • Publisher : Random House

Download or read book Eddie s Bastard written by William Kowalski and published by Random House. This book was released on 2011-12-31 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eddie's Bastard spins the warm, endearing tale of William Amos Mann IV and of the inhabitants of his eponymous small upstate New York town, Mannville. Related in flashback by the adult Billy, the story begins with him being deposited as an infant on the doorstep of his grandfather's home in a simple wicker basket with a plain two-word message pinned to his shawl reading 'Eddie's Bastard'. Eddie had been killed in Vietnam three months earlier - his father, Thomas Mann Jnr, had given up on life, having lost his only son and, he thought, his only heir. But now, suddenly, Thomas has a grandson and an heir - if not to the once-vast Mann fortune (for Thomas had recklessly squandered that in a foolhardy enterprise just after his heroic return from WWII), then at least to the long legacy of the Mann family stories, stretching back to the Civil War. Eddie's Bastard is filled with episodes of madcap adventure and resonates with the power of lifelong friendship. By turns hilarious, thrilling and heart-breaking, here is a début that stays in the mind long after the reading is over.

Book Unknown Lutsk Karaim Letters in Hebrew Script 19th 20th Centuries

Download or read book Unknown Lutsk Karaim Letters in Hebrew Script 19th 20th Centuries written by Michał Németh and published by Wydawnictwo UJ. This book was released on 2013-05 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work presents -- as far as is now possible -- the language spoken by Lutsk Karaims in the second half of the 19th and in the first two decades of the 20th centuries. This is attempted by means of editing eleven private letters and five open letters written in Lutsk Karaim -- with Hebrew interpolations. The letters were written by different authors in Hebrew script. The present publication appears to be the first critical edition of this type of text written in this particular dialect. Previous editions of south-western Karaim manuscripts either concerned very short texts from Halych or were prepared with no intention of being professional. The linguistic description of the texts aims to present a grammar of the manuscripts' language. It is complemented with a separate chapter dealing with the Slavonic structural influences exerted on the authors' idiolects, and with the lexicon of the texts. A separate part deals with the orthography and the features of the writing itself. The transcription and translation of each manuscript are preceded with a concise palaeographic description and a summary of the content. The work closes with a glossary, several indexes, maps, and the facsimile of the manuscripts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did you know that it's within our capabilities to bend steel with our very-own hands?! And what if I told you it's as easy as 10 minutes of training a day? Yep! Hey there; I'm Vince Kowalski and I believe all of us were meant to be superheroes! Yes, this title teaches readers how to build the strength and resilience of a superhero... the strength you were born to use. But these skills have been scattered far and wide, historically speaking; held closely secret, and/or communicated in a piece-meal fashion that has left most of us frustrated, and far from reaching our true strength potential and true viability. This book teaches the reader about the old, secret, strongman exercises, the ones you need in order to build a body with super-human abilities. And once you understand the concept of how it all works, you can start to build a body without limits. And we'll also take a big look at some of the great heroes in history, they'll definitely inspire you to do more, and to be the best version of you that you can possibly be! It's time to go and find your cape. Are you ready? Great... let's go!

Book Global Differential Geometry

Download or read book Global Differential Geometry written by Alfred Gray and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2001 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alfred Gray's work covered a great part of differential geometry. In September 2000, a remarkable International Congress on Differential Geometry was held in his memory in Bilbao, Spain. Mathematicians from all over the world, representing 24 countries, attended the event. This volume includes major contributions by well known mathematicians (T. Banchoff, S. Donaldson, H. Ferguson, M. Gromov, N. Hitchin, A. Huckleberry, O. Kowalski, V. Miquel, E. Musso, A. Ros, S. Salamon, L. Vanhecke, P. Wellin and J.A. Wolf), the interesting discussion from the round table moderated by J.-P. Bourguignon, and a carefully selected and refereed selection of the Short Communications presented at the Congress. This book represents the state of the art in modern differential geometry, with some general expositions of some of the more active areas: special Riemannian manifolds, Lie groups and homogeneous spaces, complex structures, symplectic manifolds, geometry of geodesic spheres and tubes and related problems, geometry of surfaces, and computer graphics in differential geometry.

Book Differential Geometry of Frame Bundles

Download or read book Differential Geometry of Frame Bundles written by L. A. Cordero and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1988-12-31 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It isn't that they can't see the solution. It is Approach your problems from the right end and begin with the answers. Then one day, that they can't see the problem perhaps you will find the final question. G. K. Chesterton. The Scandal of Father 'The Hermit Oad in Crane Feathers' in R. Brown 'The point of a Pin'. van Gu!ik's The Chillese Maze Murders. Growing specialization and diversification have brought a host of monographs and textbooks on increasingly specialized topics. However, the "tree" of knowledge of mathematics and related fields does not grow only by putting forth new branches. It also happens, quite often in fact, that branches which were thought to be completely disparate are suddenly seen to be related. Further, the kind and level of sophistication of mathematics applied in various sciences has changed drastically in recent years: measure theory is used (non-trivially) in regional and theoretical economics; algebraic geometry interacts with physics; the Minkowsky lemma, coding theory and the structure of water meet one another in packing and covering theory; quantum fields, crystal defects and mathematical programming profit from homotopy theory; Lie algebras are relevant to filtering; and prediction and electrical engineering can use Stein spaces. And in addition to this there are such new emerging subdisciplines as "experimental mathematics", "CFD", "completely integrable systems", "chaos, synergetics and large-scale order", which are almost impossible to fit into the existing classification schemes. They draw upon widely different sections of mathematics.

Book Motherhood Reimagined

Download or read book Motherhood Reimagined written by Sarah Kowalski and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the age of thirty-nine, Sarah Kowalski heard her biological clock ticking, loudly. A single woman harboring a deep ambivalence about motherhood, Kowalski needed to decide once and for all: Did she want a baby or not? More importantly, with no partner on the horizon, did she want to have a baby alone? Once she revised her idea of motherhood—from an experience she would share with a partner to a journey she would embark upon alone—the answer came up a resounding Yes. After exploring her options, Kowalski chose to conceive using a sperm donor, but her plan stopped short when a doctor declared her infertile. How far would she go to make motherhood a reality? Kowalski catapulted herself into a diligent regimen of herbs, Qigong, meditation, acupuncture, and more, in a quest to improve her chances of conception. Along the way, she delved deep into spiritual healing practices, facing down demons of self-doubt and self-hatred, ultimately discovering an unconventional path to parenthood. In the end, to become a mother, Kowalski did everything she said she would never do. And she wouldn't change a thing. A story of personal triumph and unconditional love, Motherhood Reimagined reveals what happens when we release what's expected and embrace what's possible.
