Als Referenz wurden dabei ihre Werke „Manifest der Kommunistischen Partei“ (zusammen mit Friedrich Engels) bzw. „Phänomene der Macht“ genutzt. Mit ihrem Werk „Die gesellschaftliche Konstruktion der Wirklichkeit“ legen Peter L. Berger und Thomas Luckmann den Grundstein für eine Neudefinition der Wissenssoziologie. Für die Autoren steht nicht wie bei ihren Vorgänger*innen allzu häufig theoretisches – also durch Wissenschaft „geschaffenes“ Wissen – im Vordergrund, sondern das Alltagswissen. Berger und Luckmann stellen sich die Frage, wie der Übergang von einem subjektiv gemeinten Sinn eines einzelnen Individuums zu einer faktischen Objektivität, nach der sich dann wiederum mehrere andere Individuen richten, beschaffen ist. Es geht also darum, wie subjektive Erlebnisse zu einer allgemeingültigen objektiven Wirklichkeit werden. Wie ihr Werk diese Fragestellung beantwortet, soll im ersten Teil dieser Hausarbeit rekonstruiert werden. Im zweiten Teil soll hingegen der Vergleich zu den Soziologen, Karl Marx und Heinrich Popitz, angestellt werden.
