Book Treatise on Classical Elasticity

Download or read book Treatise on Classical Elasticity written by Petre P. Teodorescu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 805 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deformable solids have a particularly complex character; mathematical modeling is not always simple and often leads to inextricable difficulties of computation. One of the simplest mathematical models and, at the same time, the most used model, is that of the elastic body – especially the linear one. But, notwithstanding its simplicity, even this model of a real body may lead to great difficulties of computation. The practical importance of a work about the theory of elasticity, which is also an introduction to the mechanics of deformable solids, consists of the use of scientific methods of computation in a domain in which simplified methods are still used. This treatise takes into account the consideration made above, with special attention to the theoretical study of the state of strain and stress of a deformable solid. The book draws on the known specialized literature, as well as the original results of the author and his 50+ years experience as Professor of Mechanics and Elasticity at the University of Bucharest. The construction of mathematical models is made by treating geometry and kinematics of deformation, mechanics of stresses and constitutive laws. Elastic, plastic and viscous properties are thus put in evidence and the corresponding theories are developed. Space problems are treated and various particular cases are taken into consideration. New solutions for boundary value problems of finite and infinite domains are given and a general theory of concentrated loads is built. Anisotropic and non-homogeneous bodies are studied as well. Cosserat type bodies are also modeled. The connection with thermal and viscous phenomena will be considered too. Audience: researchers in applied mathematics, mechanical and civil engineering.

Book Bifurcation And Chaos In Nonsmooth Mechanical Systems

Download or read book Bifurcation And Chaos In Nonsmooth Mechanical Systems written by Jan Awrejcewicz and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003-07-14 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the theoretical frame for studying lumped nonsmooth dynamical systems: the mathematical methods are recalled, and adapted numerical methods are introduced (differential inclusions, maximal monotone operators, Filippov theory, Aizerman theory, etc.). Tools available for the analysis of classical smooth nonlinear dynamics (stability analysis, the Melnikov method, bifurcation scenarios, numerical integrators, solvers, etc.) are extended to the nonsmooth frame. Many models and applications arising from mechanical engineering, electrical circuits, material behavior and civil engineering are investigated to illustrate theoretical and computational developments.

Book Optimization Theory and Applications

Download or read book Optimization Theory and Applications written by L. Cesari and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has grown out of lectures and courses in calculus of variations and optimization taught for many years at the University of Michigan to graduate students at various stages of their careers, and always to a mixed audience of students in mathematics and engineering. It attempts to present a balanced view of the subject, giving some emphasis to its connections with the classical theory and to a number of those problems of economics and engineering which have motivated so many of the present developments, as well as presenting aspects of the current theory, particularly value theory and existence theorems. However, the presentation ofthe theory is connected to and accompanied by many concrete problems of optimization, classical and modern, some more technical and some less so, some discussed in detail and some only sketched or proposed as exercises. No single part of the subject (such as the existence theorems, or the more traditional approach based on necessary conditions and on sufficient conditions, or the more recent one based on value function theory) can give a sufficient representation of the whole subject. This holds particularly for the existence theorems, some of which have been conceived to apply to certain large classes of problems of optimization. For all these reasons it is essential to present many examples (Chapters 3 and 6) before the existence theorems (Chapters 9 and 11-16), and to investigate these examples by means of the usual necessary conditions, sufficient conditions, and value function theory.

Book Recent Advances in Differential Equations

Download or read book Recent Advances in Differential Equations written by Roberto Conti and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent Advances in Differential Equations contains the proceedings of a meeting held at the International Center for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy, on August 24-28, 1978 under the auspices of the U.S. Army Research Office. The papers review the status of research in the field of differential equations (ordinary, partial, and functional). Both theoretical aspects (differential operators, periodic solutions, stability and bifurcation, asymptotic behavior of solutions, etc.) and problems arising from applications (reaction-diffusion equations, control problems, heat flow, etc.) are discussed. Comprised of 33 chapters, this book first examines non-cooperative trajectories of n-person dynamical games and stable non-cooperative equilibria, followed by a discussion on the determination and application of Vekua resolvents. The reader is then introduced to generalized Hopf bifurcation; some Cauchy problems arising in computational methods; and boundary value problems for pairs of ordinary differential operators. Subsequent chapters focus on degenerate evolution equations and singular optimal control; stability of neutral functional differential equations; local exact controllability of nonlinear evolution equations; and turbulence and higher order bifurcations. This monograph will be of interest to students and practitioners in the field of mathematics.
